Have i been hacked? (Details inside)

So on Saturday Morning i log on to FFXI, or i would be, instead of logging on as ussal i get this message: "Incorrect ID or Password". I try to set up my password again and i still keep getting the same thing. I tryed to make another account using my Playonline Registration Code but i got a message saying the code is invalid.

Later on Monday i contacted a an offical on the phone, I gave him/her my ID, then the DoB of the account, and then when i told her the mailing address, he/she said it was not the correct one. I give the Credit card number but it too was invalid.

Did i get hacked? If so, how can i change all of this in any way possible?

Just "Windower", Infact i talked with SE and they said the Credit Card number in the account was changed recently

Someone got a hold of your ID/PW and no matter what you say you either a) used some other 3rd party tool in addition to windower, or b) gave your ID/PW out to someone else.

Call SE back with your original codes and demand they reset your password.
Then, log in and cry at your naked toon.

did you login in a public place as well (ie net cafe) you could have been key logged

I managed to get a hold of them, i told them all the records, they did not match the mailing address and the credit card number, they said it was changed recently.

I only gave my ID to one person and it was my very good friend of mine(She only used him one time and thats it) and also, i ONLY used windower, unless however AtlanaViewer counts but its not a plugin to FFXI

So they suggested contacting the local authorities to help me "trace" my perpitrator however, would that help or do i just need to keep trying and call them again & again?

They should give your account back if you can provide your game codes, and the address and CC used when first registering the account.

I tried, unfortunatly they are way to stuck up of themselves and they wont listen to it, they said the "current" address etc etc, and if im unable to get that "current" address and CC #, its no dice for me

provide -original- registry codes. you can't just provide the previous CC# and address, that information is far to easy for a third party to get.

if you provide all the information you originally registered the product with *and* are demanding, you'll get your naked toon back.

just hope they didn't drop you ex shit too.

The friend you let use your account could of had a virus that stole your ID/pass.

Guess what.. anything you download can contain a virus.. even if it is not a plugin to FFXI. You shouldn't even browse ffxi related websites on the same computer you play ffxi with IMHO.

Can get keylogger everywhere kinda. You could for example make a FFXI pr0n site, and hide a keylogger somewhere...there is always stupid people who open everything without thinking, or have protection on their PC.

It's true most account stolen come from hack/giving out passwords, but it's not everything.

Just to be clear.. something doesn't have to be a "key logger" to steal your username/password either. There are pretty severe criminal punishments for installing a key logger on someones machine. It is far simpler for a program to just open up the ffxi process and read (one of the many) memory addresses where your password is stored in plain text.

Use a tool like artmoney and search for your password sometime

Anyway, if you've been playing ffxi your account may be worth thousands of dollars. It isn't paranoia to protect it, it is simple prudence. A second cheap computer for browsing the web will cost you less than the time/money you invested into your account.
