As long as you don't buy gil or have sex with too many Mithras(kitten support is a bitch), FF is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment. It's what 13.95 a month? That's a tad more than one visit to the movies(however many movies you watch on that visit is up to you), not including popcorn and shit. That's cheaper than two combo meals (not including 99 cent menu). When I quit FF I wasted so much money on DVDs(porn), games, and going to the movies. Not to mention the meals, I actually started eating, instead of being in front of the monitor all day.

This is all assuming you already had ID codes once, even then it's not much of an investment.

That being said, MMOs can drain your life away. So up to you.

WoW can be pretty addictive as well, I just got bored with it at around level 40 and quit though.

If you already quit the MMO scene I wouldn't recommend coming back as attractive as it may seem, just because it'll consume you all over again (Which is the reason I deleted my all my r/ex items when I quit FFXI..)

Actually the typical reaction I think most high level hardcore players experience is to just sit there probably for at least 5-10 minutes with a dumbfounded stupid can't believe its true look on your face. Then slowly over the next 20 minutes reality sets in and then you want to break shit. Thats what I went through last night.

WoW doesn't have end-game guilds parked by the dozens waiting for a single monster to pop, meaning effectively most of them do jack shit and the remaining one getting a fire crystal for staring at darters at 3AM.

You can solo to the top without any human interaction whatsoever, with just about any class in the game, at a reasonable pace.

Depending on your guild, WoW can be just as or even more demanding/hardcore as FFXI. From 1-70, you can definitely go at your own leisurely pace but after that, shit can get hectic.

I wouldn't consider sitting in dragons aery for 3 hours waiting for mr. argus to cast dia for me on fafnir to be very demanding, or for those of you who don't bot, spamming dia from the menu screen. There isnt' even a real strategy to the fight. I never had to farm consumables or watch tons of videos to learn how to cast elegy on fafnir. I'm not trying to bash FF; I did enjoy it for the first year or so.

Maybe WoW isn't demanding if you've never been in a guild that tried to progress to Illidan. For the rest of us who are doing end-game, I spend 1-2 hours farming herbs for pots, an hour doing nothing but fish for food, and 5-7 hours a night concentrating on keeping 24 other people alive with a 15 min break some where in between.

You honestly don't have to camp Kings to be "geared" in FFXI. That was true a long time ago, but with CoP and ToAU, there is so much "end-game" content that doesn't involve standing there botting. You'll only be missing out on Black Belt(which you can do KSNM99s for... maybe buy them or have a friend let you lot them), Ridil, DRing, and Herald's. If you can survive losing 1 or 2% on that parse from using a Haub+1 or Azkar body instead of Ebody, it really isn't so bad. Or just level BLM and be able to have the best gear in the game save Herald's without camping anything(cept for a Mold earring of course!). Maybe SE will adjust Einherjar so that it is worth it... then you're really just dealing the examples I listed.

Ha, so true. I gave up MMO's for about 5months but just became way too bored. I live in a small town and I dont know many people so there is nothing to do around here. So I ended up playing FF12 and Warhammer all the time and reading. In moderation MMO's are a nice get away, but they can become addictive really fast. Unless your a strong willed person youll find yourself wasting a lot of time suddenly haha.
