Invited? It's not exactly a birthday party.
I say you go.

It'd be very good for the family if you went. The family will see all the people that this man has affected. Sometimes if I'm in a cemetary doing visitation for a lost loved one and there is a funeral about to happen or in progress, I "join" to make the family feel better that there was 1 more person.
Also, if you are going to get a flower arrangement ask your friend if their family wants flowers or if they have an "in lieu of flowers" charity assigned.
Like everyone else said, go. Friend of mine's brother died 2 years ago in DC, I went with him to the funeral (we live in Arizona) and he couldn't thank me enough for going. It will mean a lot to them.
P.S motion to ban Mr Raikku for being a dick face and not ever posting anything worthwhile.
Oh yeah that's also true...have you ever asked yourself how many people would show up to your funeral? Everyone wants a large gathering, you should go.
Speaking as a person who lost an immediate family member, I can't tell you how much it meant to me to see people I went to school with that I least expected to see at the service. I'm not saying it made it easier to cope with, but it's definitely better for them to see that you are there for them. I had ex-girlfriends come to the service, when my own girlfriend wouldn't because it made her feel uncomfortable.
In short, if you are close to these folks, or even if you're not. Just go even if it's only for a few minutes to show them you care enough to offer your condolences.
If you've seen the Wedding Crashers, then you know what you must do!
I say go, and at the very least show your friend you're there for him :/
Advice on what not to do: don't bring a plant. After the 3rd funeral in the span of 4 months I had to attend because a family member died, everyone sent a fucking plant... so by the last funeral service, plant equated to the funeral version of the Hallmark card-- thought with zero effort in condolences. (Maybe there's a legit reason to the foliage spam, but I'm not certain). Makes it worse when you inevitably kill the plant and feel even shittier.
iirc to origin of sending flowers to a family who has lost a loved one stemmed from way back when, when they would keep the body in the home for the wake, and they didn't have the advancements in that area they do now. So the flowers would overwhelm the stench coming from the body.Originally Posted by burrito
This is a perfect example of what to ignore. He's obviously doing this to get a rise out of people and so forth I say ignore him good people of BG!Originally Posted by Mr.Raikku
Also, my condolences and if in that situation I would most definetly go. (Hell I went to my sister's best friend's mother's funeral)
