Gotta agree with alot of the above posters.

Shadow Hearts 2, was one of, if not the best RPG on the ps2.

So freaking worth playing.

Its a real pity part 3 was so meh.

I agree, Shadow Hearts part 3 would have been much better if it was tied to the first 2 in some way. It was still good though. Also, don't ignore the Shin Megami Tensei series of games, Nocturne and Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 are great. I can't wait to pick up a copy of Persona 3.

Start with SH1 if you can find it, if not 2 is fine. Play SH3 if you liked SH2, but it's not as good.

Might be a little too obvious, but Kingdom Hearts 1/2 are both 20 bucks and oodles upon oodles of fun. I wish they made one for PSP >_>

Can't stress enough how awesome Shadow Hearts 1 and 2 were. Definitely play 1 if you can get/find/kill for it. Otherwise, if you must, 2 will explain a lot of the backstory, but will totally spoil 1 for you. SH2 might be my most favorite rpg ever. 3, eh, not so much, but still worth a play if you like the first 2.

4 was kind of a let down for me (mostly because of the ending) but iono. From what I read about 5 it might actually be pretty hot.

I just kinda buy anything with a square label on it (if its cheap/used). Go to EB games, buy anything RPGish that is like 20 or less dollars. Even if the game isn't ground-breaking, 20 bucks for a decent RPG/strategy game is quite nice.
