Re: Overcamping and stealing camps, the new life of merits

We had one incident with a rival party who started in Greater Colbri camp about 5mins after we started getting mad because we were killing everything. Next thing we know a GM pops. They called a GM on us and then when we laughed at them for their threats in /t, they tried complaining to our LS leader.

Too fucking funny. People need to stop being babies. If they can't pull efficiently, go elsewhere and stop wasting respawns

I have maybe 7 merits from actually exping for them, and the rest (I think I have 23?) are from camping things and various little events here and there. I hate EXPing so much. There's no way to keep it from being tedious - even when you are pulling constantly and getting high chains you fall into a pattern while doing it. I'll worry about merits when I finish leveling everything.

Mire is probably my favorite place for late 60s - early 70s exp but flies always suck.

I wish that SE would implement an XP bonus based on the number of rank flags you have. Rank 10 in all 3 nations gets you 10% bonus.
I want to do all the nation missions, but there's no way I'm going to unless they let you keep outposts. I used to have every single outpost until I switched to San d'Oria for a few weeks, and Windurst has never taken back Ronfaure, so now I'm missing one. If I switched back to San d'Oria I'd be missing the Saurta outpost I used to have. I might not need to OP to the 3 nations constantly, but man, not having everything and waiting weeks for your nation to claim one place when you switch really bugs me.

Re: Overcamping and stealing camps, the new life of merits

Saturday night was the worst I've seen on Asura in quite some time. Ran out to Mamool Ja first, 2 parties up north and 3 parties camping the center. Off to Trolls, no one camps trolls. 2 parties at the first area by cerb, and then another 2 parties out back past the flans. Alright, Nyzul it is. 1 party doing mamools, 2 parties in middle, and 1 party at the bottom.

Admittedly, this was a random pickup party. So we ask folks if they want to go to uleg[tab] range, and most folks are up for it - but the rdm, he doesn't have COP.

how about when the haijin jp ls of your server camps ontop of your party when your leveling thf with a trio imp party of brd, smn, nin and you just happen to pop their slept mobs w/ venom bolts wiping them.

I think you don't get that gimp parties don't care that they get gimp XP. I've been at the Colibri camp on many occasions clearing out a level of birds only to have a gimp party come in and wreck the chains. To people like this, 3k an hour is a victory, they have no clue that the party that was already there was making 20+k an hour, numbers like that are too big for them to fathom. You can't run them out over time because even if they get one or two birds they are still getting XP while ruining your chains. Crappy players can't be reasoned with, they are immune to logic, and there are tons of them. The only way to get rid of them is to make Sea a merit party haven (because as we all know, it is still to hard to get to sea), but the mobs there are not meleeburn friendly. So we must deal with them, and try to minimize their impact on our activities.

Human nature is an ugly thing when resources get low. Certain behaviors can be justified. You can't really blame people for looting a grocery store for water when they are dying of thirst due to a flood.

I don't think FF11 contains any such "do or die" scenarios. Camping on top of a party that was there before you is and always will be rude. People can use any logic they want to try and justify it, but in the end they are just human scum. They are the people who would be out stealing TV sets during a flood instead of water.

Some people say, "This is just a game". When they die, all of their behavior towards others will be judged.

People tend to have a lot of 75s these days, so it's not so easy to keep every job capped on merits I guess.

Re: Overcamping and stealing camps, the new life of merits

I can't cap merits because I delete too many >.>
Seriously I've deleted around 100merits in the 3ish years I've merited.
I've got to merit for nin rng blm mnk sam war thf rdm, some of those are capped, others 1/2 etc..
I prob need 100 or so more merits to have cap for all.. and I intend to lvl more jobs.. like DRK to 75 for the 2nd time.. (diff character >.>)

I have now or have had at times.. max archery..max marksmanship..max h2h, max sword, max axe.. max evasion.. 4 katana..etc..lol
I maxed elemental magic for my BLM before. Then put it to 0 & put enfeeb to 6 because I wanted to lvl rdm instead. But took rdm to 40 then stop for long time. So I deleted enfeeb and put elemental at 5. Have had ninjutsu at 5 before as well.. Currently I've maxed enfeeb at 8 for rdm75, and ele is still at 5, gonna put it to 8 sometime. Also had max kick attacks5, put down to 0 and maxed counter when ppl said KA wasn't that good..lol. Now have 5/5 both.

So yea..I've deleted like 100 or so merits in the time I've merited;; Mostly because as I lvl new jobs I want to change things around..and before you were alot more limited with what you could merit. Now its alot better with 20 combat merits, 16 magic merits, 10/6 job specific merits.

Its hard to max merits !! (*cough* when you are like me and delete them like its going out of style >.> )

edit: Just to contribute, people should check camps before they go even if you have the omgbestexpptever. If a place is full, go somewhere else.. fighting for mobs sucks and even if your pt is the best you will still get alot worse exp than you could if you went to an empty camp. I find Mamook is always empty. Its a little more annoying because the Puks Ill Wind thing can dispel a buff, but its alot better than fighting for mobs. And you can still easily get chain100+.

That's the thing I never understand. XPing is one of my least favorite things to do in the game. It's the same thing over and over and over for hours on end. I'd rather sit in my MH and watch my moogle spin.

At least getting keys, helping with the limit break items, getting tests, etc is somewhat more interesting than XPing. I really don't mind my slow getting of merits that way.

While I don't believe in any sort of life after death, I do agree with the general idea behind that. Your actions, even on a game, reflect you. Steal mobs, MPK people, push another party out of a camp because you feel you're better than them? Doing such things says something about you. Many people might not care about that, but for me personally I do.

survival of the fittest. people act like that in every other aspect of the game, why should xp/merits be any different ? Theres shit talking at HNM's, sea, sky, everywhere...

If someone is better than you, get out of the god damn train tracks. If your party sucks ass, take your ass over to Mount Zhayolm and go xp on trolls. Lets say you're playing a game of street hockey and your park only holds one suitable place to play. If a group of bigger, stronger, faster people come and muscle you out, what are you gonna do ?? "WAH WAH WE WERE HERE FIRST" ??

Meh, I'd much rather prefer to see the people at HNM camps trick and sneak and kill eachother. Leads to a lot more funny pictures and other lovely stuff.

Outdoor sea meritting is fun! If only though all the mobs were 2 levels higher so nothing could spawn DC.

I could handle some XP in Sea. Even if it's not optimal it would be worth it for the fun and the lack of overcrowding. Plus the organ drops for In the Name of Science - still need a Gorget for my lolBST.

Kill two birds with one stone, and have a fun doing it? Yes please.

first of all... to wafik: yes, sea ftmfw!

to septimus, i couldn't agree more and i know exactly the situation your describing as i'm sure EVERYONE has been a victim of some gimp pt pulling just barely enough mobs from your camp to break your chain and fuck your xp. which is why i do what i do... get them heated and into that "claim anything that moves" attitude cause only a few mobs up, well once they are in that frenzy MOST shitty pt's don't know their limit, just stop pulling for like 5 - 10 minutes, when mobs pop run towards them so their puller thinks your going for it and he will rush over and beat you to the mob, prolly talk shit about it in /say or /tell. anyways most partys get overwhelmed and wipe, at which point go back to your xp'ing

edit to elph: yeah... <3 that camp soooo much.

Why did I think that meant killing two Greater Colibri with a cone attack?

I really hate partying in crowded areas. And people who camp on top of me. (Particularly as BLM solo where they aren't going to be killing faster than me and just gimp both of our EXP.) And parties who don't realize that low, broken chains aren't great EXP compared to other less contested areas. And parties with no BRD that want to kill Colibri. And parties with one BRD that want to Minuet+March instead of Minuet+Madrigal at colibri (feel free to call me gimp).

Also, why does an average party never want to go do trolls on Mount Z which are much less dangerous/annoying than other ToAU mobs? If I blind them, eat meat, TP in NIN AF body, and they'll never touch me other than the occassional Overthrow TP move that ignores shadows anyway. (Even MNK and PUP trolls seem gimpy compared to NIN Mamools for some reason.)

    /dumb rant: off

Re: Overcamping and stealing camps, the new life of merits

This game being a reflection of society, what we are seeing is how a lot of people act in real life. These folks that are all too happy to camp on top of you because they are "better" are the same ones who are crawling up your arse on a two lane road even though you are going the speed limit. Or talking on their cell in a movie theater or restaurant. They have no concept of common courtesy. They go through life completely oblivious of the fact that there are other people on the planet and that they are part of a civilized society.

Having said that, I doubt that even the worst offenders would cut in line at a grocery store because they are bigger and stronger than the other people in line. They do realize that there are some consequences to their actions, even though that will only curtail their asshatery in certain situations. In-game, consequences are few. Maybe slower exp or at most a 3 day ban for an outright breaking of the ToS (yes, I am looking at you, holder of mobs). So people are free to dismiss any kind of concern for other people and are free to just walk all over them because they are "gimp".

After all, meriting is the only thing to do in this game, right?

    Since when is exp endgame?

I've never been one to camp on top of other people who are already there, but know that if you show up to a camp that I've been at for 30 min +, expect me to outpull you. It's not about me being a dick/elitist/whatever, it's about me wanting to maximize my time in exp.

=o.O= you actually cast spells other then Utsusemi??!?! Wish I could get NIN that do that. Colibri have made people dumb with "dont cast on teh mobz!" Or maybe thats just my experience.
