    Keratosis pilaris

So ive had these little bumps on my upper arms for quite a long time, but they seem to have become more prevalent and have moved to my forearm as well. It's nothing unsightly, just a minor inconvenience but looking it up it seems it's keratosis pilaris. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratosis_pilaris

Reading up on it a little it seems that Oil pulling seems to diminish the bumps- http://www.oilpulling.com/

Anyone else have this problem and found a solution? I tried a moisturizer but it didnt seem to effect it at all.

I have it too. On my triceps. It sucks. Some days it's better than others.

I think my boyfriend has this, but I don't find it gross or anything. Lots of like small little bumps. They aren't pimples or anything though.

lol I used to get this on my back a couple years ago. It would come and go. My girl thought it was back zits because I wasn't washing my back hard enough so she would scrub it for me in the shower lol.

I never understood it though because it was just little bumps, looked nothing like zits.

brb gonna embarrass her now and prove her wrong :D

If you have them checked out at a dermatologist they might give you a cream or something to lessen it, but all it really seemed to do was flatten them a little. They're still sort of reddish for me at least and when you stop using the cream they flare up again. It might flatten them out for you, though.

If it's any consolation, it might clear up after a while in some places at least... I used to get them on my knees in middle school but they cleared up sometime during high school. Wish I could say the same about my arms and elbows.

Many KP bumps contain an ingrown hair that has coiled. This is a result of the keratinized skin "capping off" the hair follicle, preventing the hair from exiting. Instead, the hair grows inside the follicle, often encapsulated, and can be removed, much like an ingrown hair, though removal can lead to scarring.
If you start having a problem with that keep an eye on them, it's awful when one gets infected and starts itching like mad.

rofl, just rub some snake oil on your back.

as a general rule of thumb, anything that uses the word "toxins" as a medical term is a load of bullshit.

Sunlight may also be helpful but increases risk of skin cancer.

I have this, like everyone said, not much you can do. Getting tan makes it less visible, but it's still always there ><

Mine, when they appear, aren't very visible unless you're close up. They just add more of a bumpy texture to my upper back than anything. How big can they actually get?

I guess they can get semi large and very grouped together. Mine arnt really visible unless you actually examine my arm with the light on the right way.

It's kind of strange that there is no cure for this kind of thing, I mean I would think there would be SOME kind of ointment or something out there.

And yeah I know that Oilpulling thing isnt the most scientific concept but I read a few forums last night where people said it helped them, so I guess it's worth a try at least.

I had a friend that had them really hardcore. Her arms felt like scales. I have it too, just not as bad. Only on my upper arms and more so on my right arm.

there's a great body wash for this called Glytone, try it out, it'll work really well. it's like an exfoliating wash, works better if you use it with a really rough washcloth or something equally as rough.

ninja edit: takes like 2 weeks to work but it shows results.

I do a little facepalm every time someone uses that term in that way. ie. "You have to drink enough water each day to flush toxins out of your system!"
