My graphics card runs at around 80-85 degrees celcius when running FFXI...

Curious, does it just restart at random or does it restart when you are running certain apps?

Seems to restart when im installing WoW Burning Crusade, Downloading the client for WoW from blizzards site, and running Kraspersky computer can. Besides those times it's rebooted at random about 5 or 6 times.

Your graphics card runs at 80 but what is your CPU at? And is that celsius or farenheit? I looked up a troubleshooting guide online and it gave me a few reasons for a computer to reboot.

    1)CPU too hot
2)A virus (I doubt it's a virus since I havnt run anything other then a few clean programs and reading this forum)
3)Power suppy, my power supply is a 450watt power supply so that should be enough
One of my instructors used to say "By the time your computer is done installing windows and your connected to the internet your computer is already owned by someone else"

It sounds like it's a heat related issue. Did you properly apply thermal grease when you attached the heatsink to your processor? You should only apply a very thin layer on either the processor OR the heatsink, not both. Too much thermal grease will cause problems in heat dissipation from the processor. As for your graphics card being hot, there are a few solutions to this but I would recommend just making sure you case has good ventilation.

In the case that it's not a heat issue, then it's a software issue. Did you configure windows not to automatically restart when there is a fatal error? It really helps to see that BSOD to determine what the problem is. In windows xp go to system properties > advanced > startup and recover settings, and make sure the box next to automatically restart under system failure is not checked.

If not than it's not what I think it is and um... read Simozenes post above mine.

    could still be sink issues.

what'd you do when you mounted the processor/heat sink? did you use/apply any paste? did it come with paste pre-applied, and if so, did you wipe that if you used your own? how much did you put down?

that and check your PSU to make sure it's really providing the power you need from it.

the switch on the back of my PSU is set to 115V. How do I check to make sure it's providing the power it should be? Also my CPU didnt come with any paste or anything. The instructions didnt have any part listed to apply paste. It does say it must be kept under 38Celsius which it was pushing over at times.

So you didn't use any thermal paste at all? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835100007 You're going to want that >_>

Yeah I was following the pullout for my Motherboard while I was putting it together. It never said anything about paste >_<;.

Is it easy to take the fan off the CPU to apply paste?

Most of the time, when CPUs come with their own fans, the fans have a thin layer of thermal paste. That shouldn't be the problem.

Usually restarts are caused by RAM, bad windows install/drivers, or overheating. But in this case as its brand new, it seems the only way it could be overheating is if the CPU fan isn't spinning as fast as it should. Did you try pressing the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option on the windows failure startup screen? (The black one you get that gives the extra options other than just safe mode)

I ran a program yesterday that came with the Motherboard for monitoring hardware. According to it, the fan on the CPU was set to start up at a min temperature of 60degrees Celsius. I put that down to 30degrees but the computer still rebooted. Ill check that shutdown thing probably tmr when im expecting my video card and fan to come in the mail.

control panel > system > advanced > startup and recovery > uncheck automatically restart

now your computer will(should) bluescreen instead of just restarting, and hopefully give you some information about why, post what it says here or google it

Just took the fan off my CPU, it came with thermal paste on the fan so it has paste on it. Hooked up the 120mm fan and hooking it up now, gonna see if it still reboots itself.

Ok update, its not going to bluescreen. It just rebooted on me again. I am using EasyTune5 Build, which monitors my computer hardware. I have a flashing ! next to my CPU and if I turn audio on, the program keeps saying "DANGER DANGER DANGER".

    Re: Computer Problem >_<

Using Coretemp that someone suggested from a computer forum I got this-

    Session start: 23:0:55, July 10, 2007
    CPUID: 0x6F2
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 (Conroe-2M)
    Revision: L2
    CPU Speed CPU#0 (Core#0) CPU#0 (Core#1)
    1809.00 50 52
    1809.00 49 52
    1809.00 52 54
    1809.00 50 54
    1809.00 47 51
    1809.00 46 49
    1809.00 50 54
    1809.00 50 52
    1809.00 50 52
    1809.00 50 55
    1809.00 49 54
    1809.00 51 54

So apparently the fan that came with my CPU is complete ass or something, because it's not spinning at all fast enough to cool down my CPU.

it's your psu imo try getting another one to see whether it'll reboot again. Either that or your psu does not have enough watt to support your whole system that's why it's rebooting.

Your system running at that temp is fine there's no problem with it

Well tomorrow im going over to a friends and reinstalling Windows to make sure it's not a software problem, something fucking up with windows. If it's still messed up ill put paste on my CPU, then look for a new PSU if that still didnt work.

I just dont know why my PSU wouldnt be working since it's the exact same model as my friends >_<. Oh well, thanks for the help everyone that posted in here. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

electronics are never identical, there's probably a quality issue in the component. he got one that was average/above-average in quality. you may have gotten one that would ride the shortbus if PSU's rode shortbuses. *shrugs*

    Re: Computer Problem >_<

If it was your PSU I doubt you would have a flashing red " ! " next to your CPU on EasyTune 5. But I do spy something very very interesting on that screenshot. It is physically impossible for your system temperature to be greater than your CPU temperature. (Unless your graphics card is some sort of inferno and you have no ventilation.) Seems like the temperature sensor that reports the temperature of your CPU is giving incorrect data. This would cause your heatsink fan not to spin up to the speed it should because it thinks the CPU is not hot when in fact it actually is.

To test your PSU try putting it into a different system, but I do not think this is the cause of your problem.
