Seems like the temperature sensor that reports the temperature of your CPU is giving incorrect data. This would cause your heatsink fan not to spin up to the speed it should because it thinks the CPU is not hot when in fact it actually is.

Any idea on how to fix this?

Edit: Just got off the phone with Intel tech support. I wish I didnt have to keep asking the guy what he said because of his thick accent, but he told me that the CPU is able to handle up to 75Celsius. So that it's not the fan or the CPU that is the problem.

How can you be sure your CPU is not above said temperature? It is pretty clear that the temperature reported for the CPU is incorrect, so you cannot really say what temperature it is running at with any sort of certainty.

My guess is that something is wrong with either your processor, motherboard, or power supply.

    1. Run memtest. I highly doubt there is a problem with your RAM, but memtest is easy to run so it is worth doing. This is also a good test because if the problem is windows software related this will show it. If you system does not freeze while running a complete memtest (try running overnight) then it is clearly some sort of windows problem.

    2. Did you test your power supply in another system to make sure it works? My guess is that it's not the power supply, but this would be a good test to perform to be certain of that. If the power supply works fine in another system, then move on to step 3.

    3. Now that we have verified it is not the power supply, do we have another processor we could put into this system to verify that it is not the CPU? If you don't I would recommend RMAing the one you have and then testing the rig again. This should replace both your processor and your CPU heatsink. If the problem still persists, then move on to step 4.

    4. It's not the power supply and it's not the CPU, time to RMA your motherboard. This better fix your problem, because there is nothing left to test at this point.

Now if you do not have another system or spare parts to perform some of these tests, it might be quickest just to RMA the power supply, motherboard, and CPU all at the same time even though the problem is probably only in one of these parts.

When you say RMA, what do you mean? Not familiar with the acroynym >_<

I have a new PSU coming in the mail, should be here tmr. I just reinstalled windows and it's still doing it so I dont think it was a windows problem. I was trying to install SP2 for Windows XP last night and it kept restarting itself.

When the problem happens, it's not like a total reboot, where I can hear my computer shut itself down for a second and then boot up with everything coming back on. It just goes black, then brings me back to the startup screen.

When you wish to return a product, most companies will issue a Return Merchandise Authorization in order to classify the return within their inventory management system. That way, you don't send them a part that they have no clue how to correctly manage.

Thing is, when I opened the case RIGHT AFTER getting this reading I didnt feel any what so ever coming off the CPU. I would figure that 100C would give a little head radiating from it. >_<

My new PSU seems to have solved the random restarts though...so far *Crosses fingers*
