It's dumb to say that when Dreamcast was raped out of commision by PS2, even with a 1 year headstart. You have to give it to microsoft on the 360. (or more-so Epic games)

All I have to say about SE and FFXIII is this. The Last Remnant was announced for the xbox, as are many other games that are soon to come out. There really isn't much in the way of stopping them from making a port of FF over to 360, provided a little financial incentive.
The Dreamcast is something I still don't understand to this day.. But I agree, Microsoft did everything right with the 360, and learnt from all their mistakes with the first lolxbox.

I don't really care since at the end of the day I have both of them and can just pick and choose which version I like better, but that's just me.

As far as FF13 goes? Like I said, who knows what SE will do... everyone wants to make as much money as possible in the long run, right? And if porting it over would provided a nice financial bonus (given that the people who buy it for the 360 weren't going to buy a PS3 for it, since if that's the case it doesn't really make their sales bigger as that person would've bought the game anyways), then they would probably consider it. The point is though, how many people would seriously not shell 400-500 bucks for a PS3 once FF13 is out, if it were to be an exlusive to that specific console? (and i'm talking about FF fans as a separate entity, not the general gaming population because I am aware that not everyone likes FF/RPGs.)
I consider myself an RPG fan, and I never finished 12. Which is weird because I nearly creamed myself when I played the demo that came with DQ:8, and the play-style was similar to FFXI's (which is probably my favorite RPG of all time) and I still couldn't get into it. And I know for sure that i'm not the only one who felt this way.

If I payed 500-600 to play a FF game of equal value to that of FFXII, i'd feel extremely ripped off. Another thing you have to take into account is that PS3 isn't going to be the RPG juggernaut that PS2 was. Dragon Quest was lost (HUGE in JP), Nintendo bought Monolith studios who were the makers of the Xenosaga series, they lost Sakaguchi to microsoft, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon be exclusives... and the list goes on.

If Final Fantasy XIII is going to sell systems like you say it will, it has to be epic. Because RPG fans can now go elsewhere and still not be missing out on much.

The thing about FFXII is, even thought I feel the same way you do about it and never finished it, they tried really hard to take in a new direction. That may be the savior of FF13 and RPG's in general. Most new RPG's to me seem like the same old deal but enhanced.

If they can make 13 an action-oriented RPG ( not the usual turn based ), I think it could revolutionize the genre. The problem with that is, RPG fanboys are so locked onto what they want an RPG to be, and memories of what they were - it's harder to be innovative in than a shootan or action game.

    Time will tell though.

ZoE series > MGS imo. Not to say MGS is shit, I love both series. I just took a better liking to ZoE. I can't even fathom the thought of a next gen ZoE... part 2 still blows my mind. So smooth, fast, and fun.

Good move by Sony though, I am really glad they chopped down the price. If E3 goes even more excellent for them, I may just pick one up soon. I played Ninja Gaiden Sigma, game is incredible. Must buy for PS3.

I especially can't wait for Team ICO's new game... SotC 2? Oh god!

I couldn't tell you how right you are about FF12... I played the demo right when I quit FFXI, and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, but was very very disappointed with the end product (I still finished it story-wise to get the storyline but that was it, I never bothered with the extra stuff cus it seemed like I wasn't even playing anymore and was just letting the gambits do everything for me which I hated.)

RPG fans, especially FF fans, want to see a turn-based fighting style, because that's why FF succeeded and that's why they grew to love it. If they want to change the genre up so badly, call it something else ffs, but keep the FF on the market the way it was intended to be. Using the FF name to provide more power to your own vision is fucking pathetic and annoying, because they're using FF and the entire series as a means to jump-start their new vision for RPGs. I just wished they kept FF the way it was intended to be, and the way everyone loves it, rather than changing it so much. If that's the case, maybe it's better if they just stop the FF series altogether and start a new one. (but of course they won't, because the NAME Final Fantasy is automatic purchases, and that sucks.)

Look at FFX for example, the game moved to way better graphics yet maintained the same formula that has worked so well in the past, and the game was very very good and a very big hit (regardless of one fairly annoying main character..) If they did the same with the PS3, i'm sure it could be a huge hit, but what I don't understand is why they won't do it, and why they're afraid of the random encounters so much (because, honestly, that's what I loved about FF8 which was the first RPG I had played, and I had gotten hooked into RPGs ever since.)

And you're right DJ, if FF13 will be a flop like FF12 it wouldn't even matter, not to Sony OR Microsoft (in the event the game goes multi, that is..) I just hope that they know what they're doing and they won't have the ridiculous battle system from 12 and just bury it ASAP so we don't have to experience that crap ever again (I actually want to feel like I'M the one playing, rather than the computer doing every single thing for me... macros in FF11 was one thing and I was okay with it, but the gambits took it too far in FF12, with making characters use items at specific times and shit... at first it's very cool, but as you move forward in the game it's just really annoying and makes you feel like you're not even a part of the game..)

I wasn't aware FF12 flopped. Every person I know that played it, loved it. Most likely because it took place in Ivalice, but besides that I thought everything was done quite well. The gambits didn't bother me at all, it was an interesting approach for strategy. You could set them poorly and die, or really well and kick ass.

In comparison to FFX, it did.

Maybe change is good, but I think they were phasing out the encounters and the battles way too fast... I didn't like it at all (and the story didn't even look remotely similar to a Final Fantasy until Pharos... from there the drama reigned supreme and actually reminded me why I paid 60 bucks for it.)

I enjoyed FFX back when it was out, but nowadays it's more of a meh game. Ivalice is my favorite world of all FF's, so FFXII was like a dream come true. I pray that they make a FFT 2 someday.

I kinda agree FFX didnt age as well as other game. I enjoyed the game a lot when I played it, but I don't have that many good memories either. The game was still well done in overall tho. FFX-2 didnt help I guess... Was a huge turn off for me and killed 2 character.

Ivalice is also my favorite FF world, with the exception of FFTA, I loved the story that came out of that world.

I think they took fairly drastic measures with anything that has to do with FF12, be it the battle system or the storyline or even the language that was used (even though it added a lot, it just didn't feel like FF to me..)

Why is that? Because it didn't have Nomura fagging it up with belts and zippers? No thanks to that, I would rather see something new, different, and great. FFXII was just that. Now we will probably never see anything like that again, I just don't understand how a character designer can become a lead game designer.

lol i'm not a Nomura fanboy by any means, but I wasn't expecting an FF game to be so deep.. not saying it was bad, like I already stated everything from Pharos until Bahamut was golden, I just thought it was very very slow up until that point story-wise, and vaan seemed to be the only person who spoke modern, american english. (which again, wasn't that bad... just weird and took some time to get used to.)

Overall I enjoyed the experience, but it's not an RPG I could play over and over again like I used to with FFX (until I grew up and realized the game is kind of corny and stupid lol) or KH2/Xenosaga 3. It's more like one of those "in the moment" kind of games that are good while you play them, but once you're done you don't really feel like popping them back into the console again.

I don't forsee myself getting a PS3 anytime in the near future, probably not even for FFXIII. If they dropped the price an additional $100-$150 I might consider it.
Good for you! Hell, might as well give you 10, that's right, 10 free blurays and a toaster for you. Anyways, hopefully the price drop will attract other gamers who were not able to afford it before... Now, if only Kojima could finish up Guns of the Patriots and go straight to work on a new ZOE >_>

Attract other gamers who were not able to afford it? Though you know the other 100 dollars will just be used for games. They should have just bundled a game at the release to make it worth while for others.

This is what makes me sad about this generation :\ RPGs make up probably 95% of the console games I play and the ps2 had everything I wanted to play minus a game or two, that I can play now on my Wii. Was hoping ps3 would do it again but... /sigh. I could care less about the vast majority of 360 games(in partiuclar, console fps games just don't do it for me since perfectdark/golden eye ) so I'd prefer if I never had a reason to buy it, but by the looks of things I may be compelled to in the future :\

PS3s seriously need to lash out some RPGs, it's the only reason the PS2 did as well as it did.

I'm still on the GTA system selling gravy train that is as far as creditting majority of PS2 success. Like Deejay mentioned before I read somewhere Vice City sold closer to 10 million ps2 copies and like 14 worldwide and San adreas sold 12 million copies for the ps2 in less than 5 months for the PS2 as well.

I dunno if GTA4 will have the same effect this time around.. with the Sandbox genre being very played out nowadays by Crackdown and numerous other titles. Maybe not "played" out, I should say "Crowded". And simultaneous releases for both HD gaming systems.

But then again who knows, we'll find out soon.
