A SYDNEY woman accused of fatally stabbing her father, sister and injuring her mother was denied psychiatric treatment by her parents who were Scientologists, a court was told today.
The 24-year-old woman, who cannot be named, was diagnosed with a psychotic illness in late 2006 and recommended follow-up treatment at Bankstown Hospital, in Sydney's southwest.

Dr Mark Cross, the consultant psychiatrist and clinical director of Liverpool and Fairfield Mental Health Services, said the woman's parents refused this treatment.

"She had a history of being diagnosed with a psychotic illness in late 2006 at Bankstown Hospital, but follow-up from the mental health team was apparently declined by her parents because of their alleged Scientology beliefs," Dr Cross said.

The woman allegedly stabbing her 53-year-old father and 15-year-old sister to death at the family home in Hydrae Street at Revesby in Sydney's southwest on Thursday.

It is also alleged she stabbed her 52-year-old mother, who raised the alarm as she collapsed in a neighbour's driveway.

Here in America, a woman who was raped was arrested while escorting officers to the scene of the crime because of a previous petty theft warrent. The investigation into her rape was dropped and she was denied the morning after pill because an officer present was Catholic.

I told her he was getting a bypass, and she was like going on that scientologist trip saying shit like: "Hospitals are actually bad for your recovery." and "Illness, ALL illness is just in your mind. If your father just puts this condition out of his head he'll recover without needing surgery. You should tell him this." I was practically speechless because this was the dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life.

It's like how Jehova's Witnesses say their followers can't have surgery. At some point, they'll need an angioplasty or have their tumors surgically removed.

Somewhat off-topic but, and I seriously do not condone any of that shit, but there was this big article in Time about the power of mind ( a couple of months ago ). These neuro-scientists and psychologists and such we studying people going through special therapy ( including brainscans for monitoring and such ) to overcome OCD, depression, ADHD etc etc by just using thinking techniques.

It was really interesting and went on to explain the power the brain really can have over the body. After like a few months of intense training and therapy they were saying most of these people had kicked their meds and were just using techniques to overcome the thoughts if they came. Over time these people said it was less frequent they would feel the onset of depression or OCD or whatever it was they were suffering from.
