Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

Something I often do for fun when I just doing feel like meripo on my RDM is grab my melee gear set (and don't think about doing serious melee work on RDM in full AF1.....get some serious options, I'm not saying drop millions on dusk if you can't, but for god's sake at least grab some of the free rare/ex options, etc.), sub DRK or WAR (personallly I prefer DRK, I prefer to keep drain), and go out and solo wild Karakul in the Mire. They pop chigoes that drop in about 2-3 hits, usually 3-4 per mob and also yield EXP.

Typical numbers I'll see with EXP ring+sanction bonus are 84-110 exp for the Karakul (usually cons DC) and 12-36EXP for the chigoes, meaning about 160-200EXP per karakul. Its fun, very little downtime with some form of autorefresh piece and sanction refresh, and no real risk of dying if you have respectable melee gear. And karakul hides sell moderately well.

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

Marids are hellafun to melee solo, just be sure to be ready for the chigoe spawns!
You can probably low chain T-VT phuabos melee wise in sea on your own, and team up with another rdm to go chain #2-4 on the VT aerns where you pop Ix'DRK, or go water farming with the same result in sky, (granted, this is a little off the original pure solo).
You can probably plow straight through both DC and EM/T hpemdes for fun, and it's just nice when you get off a ws when they open their mouths

As for sleepnuke stuff, well, as has been mentioned before, Flans, Wamoura, Marids and Phuabo are probably your best bets.

In the short run RDM/BLM can make decent xp on Mount Z. If you need to cap off your buffer and don't feel like lfp then this is a good option. It isn't something I would sit there doing all day though.

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

personally, when I need buffer on RDM (and have to do it solo), i like to go to sea. i go into the palace and take a left for the thunder based ghrah. rdm/nin with some decent melee gear, i use justice and joyeuse - with enspell of course.

the difference with melee soloing and nuke soloing, is that nuking a VT mob usually will require convert to kill, unless you just take forever. then, there's still down time from resting. Meleeing you should never really run out of MP. if you don't have to rest it's alot more fun.

I especially liked doing ghrah because the M-chip drop rate seemed really high when i'd solo there, while also getting chain 2-3 off them. farming a bunch of ghrah m chips while getting decent buffer/merit exp helped me to get myself a fortitude torque for lolmeleerdm. I guess it was like my 2 birds with one stone - chips instead of kindred seals.

if you have a blm friend though, go duo aerns inside for HQ organs to try and get a cape, it's also very nice exp.

    Because they have huge physical defense. It takes forever to melee them down, and they rarely ever drop meat. ;_;

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

I solo out in MtZ on my RDM just fine, managing Chain #2's (3 if Conserve MP isn't being stupid on me and not working >.> ) But it's no merit PT. The Puddings actually let me rip off some nice nukes and feel like not a waste as a nuker on RDM (even though it's the only time i actually nuke lol).

I've currently leveling BLM (@70) but honestly if your RDM is decent enough, you could do it. I solo my cap back there after HNM events. Say 45min could net you the 3-4k you'd have lost if you have a decent setup.

Basically, make sure you max yourself on healed MP while resting, and do a combo of Elemental Skill gear + Z.Mitts, lol.

Aside from that, I occasionally use the obi's if the day is worth it (IE Thunder/Blizz/Fire) the three I use often. You'll tend to net around 700~ on them, and about 780-800 with Ugg Pendant, but it's risky. I tend to stick to Elemental Torque for less resists.

Honestly, just go and try it, see how you work out. (Oh & I'm a Tarutaru :D )

yeah, solo manaburn will definitely be good exp out in MtZ. The downside, at least for me, is that solo nuking things (as rdm) seems kind of dull. maybe I'm just doing it wrong

Well for me, my "main" would be WAR, so to me nuke/sleep/graving things is a fun and exciting change, while meleeing is so old hat. Anyways, thanks to everyone who was doing it right for the suggestions.

meh, yeah, blm and rdm are my mains i guess. so nuking is kind of same old same old for me.

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

I'm somewhat suprised that no one mentioned that you could solo Grahs in the Palace for good exp and a chance for M chips for about 150-200 exp a kill. Go /NIN, user shield + Joyeuse / or dagger for Energy Steal (I guess you could dual wield if you wanted) and just kept them silenced; they're easy kills.

I spent a couple hours just soloing for fun and made a healthy 8k.

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

    on the buffalo comment-

used to do buffalo all the live long day- would do a day on the EPs hoping for bonaccon (which is damn fun while /drk and enstun procs let me tell you), and after going 0/7 on the cure clogs, I just gave up. The hides and meat were too rare. Moved to the DC ones, again /DRK, and while the exp was better, drops sucked, and kill rate is agonizingly slow.

Re: Solo RDM @75 for buffer/merits

Because MountZ is always packed I usually solo in sea off VT sharks as RDM/BLM, I'm guessing I get about 3k/hour? 450 exp a shark with empress band, each ThunderIII takes off about 12% HP, while blizz and fire do about 9-11%. Having convert merits and good HMP gear helps a lot (And of course you need good nuking gear - pay no attention to all the people who say RDM can't nuke for crap, they're wrong). RDM can solo chain if you fight EM aerns but I think you get exp faster off sharks as they give a lot more exp individually. I've also heard of RDM getting up to chain3 off Wamoura princes, but I haven't really tried it myself so I can't confirm.

Soloing Madrids would probably be faster, but I just prefer sea as it's a much nicer place to solo + never lags.
