    Diabolos's tiles pattern

I might be crazy, but didnt it use to have 3 different set of tiles that could fall? I've done the fight over 50 times (counting wipe), and seen the same pattern every time but one (was a long time ago). The question is, did I hallucinate that, or there is indeed multiple pattern?

The only explanation I can think of is that there is 3 instances of the arena A, B and C with different patterns, and you will never get B/C unless the first one is occupied, which never happen

There are 3 patterns, and yes, it seems one is more common than the others.

You can see which pattern you get if you look over the edge at the right angle.

Yeah, I know you can see it. I was just wondering if I was crazy about the 2nd (and 3rd?) pattern considering it happened once in 50 attempts, and it was not mentioned on any website.

could you give more detail as to how can you see it? And what your looking for

I.E. like do you see through certain tiles?

The tiles that are going to fall have a heavier outline than the others.

Yeah they do, but sometimes are hard to distinguish.

More fun to just go like this and watch 2 people fall in the diremite pit.

Is it known what determine the pattern, or my assumption in the first post seem correct?

I have seen all three, but there is definitely one that I have seen more than the other two.

    Re: Diabolos's tiles pattern

It probably works the following way.

The majority of the BCNM areas have 3 replicas of the arena where you fight, this is also Diabolo's area case. Those replicas exist to allow up to 3 groups to fight simultaneously and reducing possible wait-time (although from a programming standpoint it's not the most clever way to provide instanced content).

I wouldn't be surprised if when you enter you automatically get assigned arena #1 in case it's free, or assigned the next one that is if it wasn't. That would pretty much explain it, as in Diabolo's area, each of the 3 arenas holds a different tile pattern.

Yeah, that's what I meant in the original post. You can usually see the "instance" floating around using drawdistance pluging lol.

i think you're right on the money. we know that BCs and such have "rooms" that you get sent to where the mobs pop and you can fight. most rooms are far enough away that you can't see, target, etc. anyone in them from any other room, though there ARE exceptions. notable exceptions off the top of my head include the ghelsheba "hut door" (not peak, but the one where you fight NPC fight, dragoon fight, and wings of fury), the pot bc in gardens for CoP, and einherjar (sp). probably more too. generally you can't target others when you enter einherjar, but i did notice that when we entered roswille's chamber (sp) i was able to target the people who had not gotten inside yet when i was already inside.

anyway, it's clear that each BC arena has these "rooms" and that you get assigned to them as you enter. i suspect that they did not want THAT much moving geometry that was directly related to clipping/collision and such (i don't know the architecture of the game, clipping can be obscenely cheap or very costly in my limited experience depending on how rough you make the actual geometry. i know it's handled locally, so insert "playstation limitations" argument here.) but it seems to me that if they wanted to do it on the cheap as they sure seem to tend to, they would just make the tile pattern unique to each room.
