I dunno why, but I really wanted to see the scene where Mrs. Weasley and Sirius are arguing about whether or not Harry should hear about the Order. Sirius says that Harry isn't her son and she says "Well he's as good as one" or something like that.

She sorta has an innocent look that is quite appealing. And she looks older than either ron, hermione or harry i reckon, despite supposedly being a year younger in the books.

And wth about sum1 saying cho was hot? she wasnt even a 7 on my scale. But the again, I have never gone for asiatic girls, just not my thing.

But back to the movie, a different group of my friends forced me to come along again, and I still stand by how crappy movie is. Even if I hadnt read the books I reckon I wouldnt have liked it....Only good part were some of the Special Effects, and in many places I thought even that was overdone....

I didn't think Luna was blisteringly hot or anything, but I thought she was a really good choice for the role. I've liked pretty much everyone they've cast so far, although holy shit Neville is way way uglier than I imagined in my head. In the book it just talks about him being kind of short and fat, but that actor has an ass for a face.

P.S. I thought Sirius and Lupin would both be super hot. Especially Sirius, since Rowling goes on and on about how he was just the hottie in his year that everyone was after.

P.P.S. Helena Bonham Carter, amazing as always. They probably saved a shit ton of money casting her too, because she always dresses like that.

I thought the point of Harry kind of overdoing the teen angst thing was because he wasn't just dealing with his own feelings, but also the completely unrelated feelings of Voldemort. He would have little moments of anger or happiness or whatever that seemed to be triggered by nothing going on around him, and it took him a while to figure out why.

yeah, i interpretted it as frustration with the situation, teen angst, and voldemort's angry personality having influence on him, but it still was really annoying to read him snapping at his friends, saying 'you don't understand' and such. It was overdone, and while it drove the point home, i still found like i wanted to slap him and tell him to grow up.

Just saw the movie and i thought it was decent. good harry potter fan movie, very blase by regular movie standards. i could see if you were someone who just watched the movies, or a random person, how you wouldn't like it.

after the 4th book, i really liked cho, because it was a kind of budding romance. After book 5, i kind of wrote off cho because she became so psycho, but i always imagined her far prettier than the actress in the movie. i thought she wasn't very attractive.

Honestly, I thought Ron and Hermione deserved it a lot of the time. They're not exactly the most tactful people, and how many times have they had a falling out because one of them doubted him? I'd be fucking frustrated too, because it's like no matter how many times he's right, they just never trust him. On top of that, they never really bring him back to reality. Ginny straight up told him he was a dick that one time when he was all pissy about being possibly possessed by Voldemort, and he shut the fuck up. They need to grow some balls and tell him that shit could be worse. Give him some perspective. Nobody ever does, so I can't really fault him.

Edit: movie is not worth the price of admission unless you enjoy the books.

Also, Cho's not hot. She's not really even that pretty. Ultra average; people are only hot over her because she's asian.

If you come into this movie knowing that you're gonna get a huge chunk of the book cut and part of the storyline altered to accommodate, then yes, the movie is good. I came in knowing it was going to be chopped to hell, and on it's own it was rather okay. I particularly enjoyed the climax of the movie, even if it did seem to special-effecty. However I go into these kinds of movies knowing that book to movie adaptations are never ever perfect.

Edit: Loved Umbridge and Lovegood, I thought their portrayals were spot on.

It's the most fucking annoying thing I have ever experienced with anyone; sometimes I hang up on her when she's talking to me just because she starts in about how I never listen. I can totally understand how Harry could just be sick to death of dealing with their bullshit and want to slap them in the mouth over any little thing.

P.S. I loved Umbridge's little rendition of the hem-hem, but I just thought should would be fatter. And toadier. Not really sinister-appearing enough for me.

i agree with you that they do it a lot and it gets annoying but often its because they didn't see what harry saw, only his account of what happened, and he does jump to conclusions. its not like 'lets figure this out', its always 'its him! hes the bad guy, i know it'. combined with his tendency to try to find evidence to prove his suspicions instead of say, finding the truth, i say their skepticism is warranted, haha. and i definitely wouldn't say every time but i'm sure you didn't mean that literally.

i thought umbridge was excellent, her office was classic. luna was really good too, the voice and her ability to create awkwardness in others was really captured. I'm glad they spent so much screen time on it. There are some aspects of each movie that cannot be captured in the book which makes me like them differently from the books. In the fourth, it was the gravity of the situation when faced with the dragon in the first task (just feels more dangerous than the book), in this one it was the sheer power of the magics of voldemort vs. dumbledore (effectively shown by the collateral damage). Flying through london at night next to parliament was pretty cool as well (a throwaway moment which is captured well by film)

The whole movie was filled with deus ex machina. I involuntarily laughed or rolled my eyes with all the convenient plot twists and throw away characters and scenes. Are her books filled with this many clumsy plot developments and forced conflicts?

This movie seemed to be made with the assumption that everyone in the audience read the books. It was entertaining as a mindless summer flick but there were too many characters that seemed to have no purpose and scenes that were totally unnecessary.

Since this thread is already at page 4, is it OK to discuss the movie with spoilers?

The movies are pretty laughable in terms of plot/pacing/dialogue because they're trying to pare down 800+ pages worth of source material into about 2hrs of movie. Unfortunately, they don't really seem to have any concept of which parts are central to the plot and which parts are just fluff/sidestory/subplot. You're very right to say that the movie is made with the assumption that everyone has read the books. If I hadn't read it, I'd be saying WTF as well. It's sad, because they have an amazing cast. It's just that there's really only so much you can do with a shitty/unintentionally comical script.

I highly recommend the books, because they are at the very least entertaining, even if they are not great works of literature. The first few are obviously for a younger audience, but at the 4th+ book, the story seems to be for a more mature audience.

And yes Ginny is fucking uglyheaded.
