Re: HP and the Order of the Phoenix!

I can't believe you guys think Luna is attractive? She's freaking pale and ugly.

My favorite part of book 5 was when the Weasley twins threw their drop-out extravaganza. I think they captured that part of the book really well. It was probably my favorite part only because they fucked up the Centaur scene. (They seemed a lot more smarter/dangerous in the book.) And, did they really even need to show Hagrid's half brother? That time seemed wasted.

Most of the people I saw it with thought that the only reason why book 5 didn't translate that well into a movie is because its the main "transition" book of the series. Book 6 should be a million times more interesting as a movie than 5 was. Book 4 or 6 will probably go down as the best movies in the series, imo.

Re: HP and the Order of the Phoenix!

The movie totally sucked and I almost fell asleep/walked out multiple times.

And it didn't only suck for the obvious reason that it skipped all kinds of shit that you pretty much had to read the book to know what was going on; the acting sucked, the changes they made from the book to the movie sucked, the overall speed(?) of the movie was so quick that they left sooo many details out, and they even ruined the battle between Dumbledore and Voldermort...

There was supposed to be absolutely no struggle at all from Dumbledore and he was just supposed to throw all the spells off like nothing. Voldermort didn't even attempt to cast Avada Kedavra when in the book he did it like five times...

Whatever, I'm glad I didn't pay for it and that the last book comes out this weekend. Then I'll be done with Harry Potter for good! (cause I'm not going to see the other two movies)

I've come to realize that you can't enjoy a movie like this if you're too attached to the books because you're only looking for what's different instead of just looking at the movie for the movie. I've done it so many times with the other 4 movies, but this time I just was like whatever, it's going to be different and so I just have to accept it, and I ended up liking this one alot.

I agree, but it's retarded because you can't really understand/enjoy the movies if you haven't read the books either. (atleast after movie 4)

Re: HP and the Order of the Phoenix!

As someone who saw the movie without reading the book I enjoyed it. I can understand where people who are a bit more Hp fanatical than me get upset when things aren't translated from book to film quite as well as you'd like. And while i understand the critiquing of the actors I can hardly agree with all the criticism about the quickness of the movie. Imagine trying to concise a 800 or 900 page book is it? into just over 2 hours of film. It'd be nearly impossible. That said I thought the movie flowed well and while there are some questions not enough to make the movie un-enjoyable. There are some things I could have done without, like hagred's brother, but for the most part i thought it was an entertaining movie.

It would be exciting to see things like this with extended versions like the LoTR's that had theatrical and extended versions, but this would be like a 6 hour movie if they really went into depth and covered everything. Not that i'd be opposed to that, i love long movies and i guess would be in the minority of people who would sit through a 6 hour movie.

I wouldnt mind myself, that way they might be able to add more stuff from the book into the movie. Alot of "fun" stuff was realy left out

Re: HP and the Order of the Phoenix!

That would cost SO much money to make...but what about this idea?

How about they just make a t.v. show about the books instead of the movies. Obviously they wouldn't have some of the crazy special effects because T.V. shows are usually on a more limited budget, but if it was like a long t.v. series they could really flesh out everyone and everything about the story as much as they possibly could. It wouldn't be like an ABC t.v. show like Heroes or anything, but more like a Masterpiece Theatre production (think Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth). I think that would be reeeeeeally awesome.

that would be a good idea but that format is something the bbc does really well and the usa... not so much. I can only think of roots or that civil war one with patrick swayze as any that were successful, and that was a long time ago. i think if one were to be made, it would have to wait for the hollywood movie machine to be finished (at least 5 years i think), but I would love to see a bbc produced harry potter mini-series

I would watch it, assuming that it was done right.

Or even if it wasn't going to be a TV series, do it like a TV movie thing where they space it out to like 2-4 different movies shown every few nights. Economically it'd be a disaster for whoever made it, but it'd be more inclusive I think.

Yeah I think the masterpiece theatre things are usually BBC done or something like that, but you get the gist of what I meant.
