Get it? No need to be a killjoy.
Yet it's ok to be a "killjoy" for anyone looking forward to killzone 2?

I asked why LO is so hyped and anticipated and all anyone's given me is "it's made by someone who has a good track record".

    Fantastic.

Hey, can't do anymore if you just want to be negative about it. If a producer having a good history of making amazing games isn't enough for you, then i supose there is nothing else to discuss.

Track record is the best way to know if a future game will be good. Killzone 2 doesn't have a good track record.

Note: LO doesn't psych me up yet. Sakaguchi's track record isn't spotless, this might be one of said spots. You never know.

Really? After I saw the trailer, LO felt kind of bland.

I would never buy a racing game. I would probably never buy a sports game. But jesus christ if it's Mario Golf or Mario Kart I'm buying it. Something about tossing around the good ole pigskin with my main man Mario is more appealing than doing it with Madden.

Because people are perfect. Like Max said, Sakaguchi's track record isn't perfect and his old games were great for the times and technology available. But I'm not convinced of this now. I'm not being negative, just that I haven't gotten an answer that I'm looking for (or anything close).

And I wouldn't say track record is the best way to tell if a game is good. All my favourite companies/directors/etc have let me down at some point (sometimes more than once).

I dunno, it felt more like FF to me than anything... and the battle system from the other videos they have released in the past looks like it would be fairly similar to the old turn-based FF games, only kind of fast paced like FFX and in next-gen graphics.

I hope i'm right anyways... the 360 needs a strong jRPG (and no, Enchanted Arms doesn't count as one..)

As far as Blue Dragon is concerned, the demo is just okay imo (and that's now after playing it for about 2 or 3 times, the first playthrough was absolutely annoying).. I really hope that the demo just gives a really bad impression and the game itself will be good, but time will tell. Either way, both games should have awesome music (I can already tell BD does from the battle/boss/dungeon music in the demo) because of Uematsu.

    Re: E3

No ones ever said, "OMG LOOK AT DIS GAME GOTTA PLAY IT NOW NOW NOW" with Lost Odyssey. No one has a retarded slow-motion LO trailer in their sigs either. And last I checked, no one was even really discussing the game before you brought it up.

There are pages upon pages in this thread full of PS3 fanboys drooling over a crap PS2 sequel. And then they have the audacity to compare it to real console shooters when Killzone 2 probably won't even be comparable to Lost Planet.

You know, the same thing happend when Gears and Resistance both came out. We all know which one is the better game, but PS3 fans made Resistance out to be a better when we all know damn-well that shit can't even hang. Since theres literally nothing else except for Unreal Tournament to look forward to in the genre, PS3 fans will hype anything with some pertty graphix.

For xbox owners, theres 2-3 promising JRPG's coming out, and LO just happens to be one of them. No ones saying it's the best game since Xenogears. Sakaguchi is making an all new RPG series with developers/composers who used to work for SE. If someone told me that Kojima was going to make a completely new MGS series, i'd be excited to see how it all plays out. What's wrong with that?

I agree that the 2 trailers don't go very in-depth info concerning the playstyle ofthe game. But from what we've seen and what we know about the people making it, whats there to complain about? It looks like your traditional FF game as many people have stated. Again, what's wrong with that?

You're seriously going to sit here and tell me that LO doesn't look like it will shape up to be something worth buying? Give me a break.

    Re: E3

So true... if anything, it will be just as good as your average FF, and that's a goddamn good thing if you ask me. This entire group used to work on previous Final Fantasy titles, i'm sure they can come up with a game that deserves our attention to say the least.

I actually believe in them... BD is just a game they made out of an anime series (which is fine, but they probably won't go on to make sequels and stuff like that..), while Lost Odyssey seems like a completely new game (and even though the trailers don't show much, it looks as if there are enough plot twists to keep you interested throughout gameplay, plus I trust that team a lot seeing how they're coming off with a lot of experience with the FF series) that could possibly keep moving on as a series all on its own if it will get enough success out of this initial release (I can see them releasing Lost Odyssey 2 and 3, etc. all with different stories to combat the FF series, and it would be interesting to all gamers really because there will finally be an alternative to FF/SE, which might actually make Square move their asses and make a good FF game, rather than assuming that everything they touch turns to gold and their games will sell without any problems.)

Gee, thanks for pointing out something that I already know.

I know that, and people tell them to calm the fuck down because this isn't the greatest game in the world. This is the same thing, to a much lesser extent. Except I'm trying to understand more about the game. I'm curious, the hype made me interested and I was disappointed.

Again, it seems like the same thing is happening here too. People seem to be hyping up a game with "pertty graphix". Excuse me for wanting a little more, or at least for wanting to know more.

If someone told me Kojima was going to make a new MGS series I'd be excited too. If someone told me Kojima was going to make the new MGS series play exactly like Outer Heaven or Zanzibar with pretty graphics, I'd be pretty pissed off and annoyed.

OMG 360 is getting some RPGs HURRAY! And that's fine, but to me the RPGs are pretty mediocre and bland. Sure, some oldschool is nice, but I want to know what twists are there to the gameplay to make it interesting and fun for people who've played JRPGs to death and beyond already.

I just saw (not only that trailer) but a gameplay one a while back, I was expecting something worthy of the hype and was sorely let down. Obviously, for me there's a lot to complain about. I guess I'm the sort of person who looks for something new and interesting whenever possible, not that I'll never play this game or try it, but I was just under the impression that this was going to offer more.

This question wasn't just brought up by this topic alone, it has to do with what I've been hearing for the past few months. No one might've said anything like that in this topic, doesn't mean I haven't heard it before.

The great thing about games is that people are allowed to like or dislike something for whatever reasons.

You're right, I can agree with where you're coming from on most of your points. From what we've seen of the game, it's nothing to really write home about. However, I still think it's a little too early to pass any real judgement. Personally, I feel that chances are leaning towards LO being a perfectly good title, and very interested to see how well the characters in this series flesh out. My main concern with FFXII was that you dont really learn much about the main characters, because everything was centered around the War/government. Hopefully this game is a little more like FFT for PS1, where you get to learn more about the main PC's while still being part of an epic war going on in the background.

Yeah well, despite everything that I've said, I will probably still play the game. You're right about it being too early to pass judgement though, but it makes me wonder sometimes lol

That said, I'm hoping they reveal/add more stuff to it.

    Re: E3

I think that's sort of why I felt like the FF12 story was just lacking that FF factor that was present in all the other installments... it just felt really empty.

I really hope that in FF13 they change it, because the new battle system didn't bother me as much as not really having any storyline... there are some points in FF12 where you can run through like 4 dungeons at once and you have like 2 lines of text in between them, which was very frustrating because you feel like you're not going anywhere with the story, yet you're forced to fight a million enemies. And like I already said before, I think that everything from the Pharos tower to the very end of the game was extremely well done, and the story actually started to remind me of Final Fantasy with all the good ol' plot twists and heavy storyline-packed scenes, but I just didn't feel that way up until that point in the game.

I really want to believe that Mistwalker can pull off a good title that will draw RPG fans to it so that they may continue it, because like I already said competition is good, and if someone can threaten Square then so be it, because it will just mean that both products would look 10 times better than they would've all on their own.

EDIT: As a side note though... why does the main character in LO look so fucking ugly? lol... I guess that's what happens when Nomura isn't incharge of character development (it's lacking zippers damnit! )

Yeah, I dont like the main character's face at all. His outfit/armor seemed fine to me, I just can't get past that emo strand of hair that doesnt move from the center of his face, lol.

Just waiting for Nomura to design a character with zips in his hair. Or zips as hair. Whatever comes first.
