    Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

    Source: http://www.killingifrit.com/forums.php? ... 57011&d=30

Really, do these things or Colibri in general have such slash resistance? It wasn't on any site I saw but just from experience nearly all birds, especially Greater Colibri, have slash resistance of some sort. Mamools have higher def/vit to my understanding yet I am seeing higher results on Vorpal Blade and SA + Vertical Cleave on Mamools than Greater Colibri by quite a few points of damage.

Someone in the source above mentioned there was a possible test done on it by BG but I have yet to find it.

Having killed thousands of those things across multiple jobs all using slashing weapons I have never noticed anything that would suggest they have any kind of slashing resistance.

    It's bull...

Mamool Ja Staging Point, north camp. 2 BRDs (2xMarch/2xMin), Sole Sushi:

Mamool Ja Staging Point, south camp. 2 BRDs (2xMarch/2xMin), Sole Sushi:

Nyzul Isle, colibri camp (bottom). 2 BRDs (2xMarch/Mad/Min), Meat Mithkabobs:

There are a couple slight differences, but the similarity of data should be proof in and of itself.

    1) Usukane Sune-Ate used as TP footwear in bottom 2 parses, Fuma Sune-Ate used in top parse. Rutter Sabatons used in both cases for WS since I felt my Acc was sufficient (didn't have Acc footwear for WS in top parse anyway).

    2) Food/song differences, but Minuet III & Mithkabobs add approximately the same amount of Att, thus damage figures should be comparable.

Note: I don't really like sushi + 2x Minuet in 2 BRD parties, but they were pickups and I was at the whim of the other melees' wishes. Meat kind of sucks at Mamool SP north, so I do usually use sushi there even with 2 BRDs.

As far as I know, regular birds do not have a slashing resistance.

    According to wiki:

    Colibri: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Colibri

    Bird: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Bird

It doesn't mention anything about lesser birds or colibri having a resistance to slashing weapons.

I'm well aware that Wiki shouldn't be a bible to go by, but it is at least a good starting point.

    Re: Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

In my experiences, all of my lower parsing on colibri can be attributed to higher evasion and eating shitty food. I don't see any sort of slashing resistance in my personal experience.

    Re: Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

I've never seen any evidence they might be resistant to slashing. However, if they are, it's probably a small modifier like .875 rather than. 75. How would one mathematically 'prove' one way or the other?

    Re: Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

No parse data or anything to back up my observation, but I've slashed the crap out of those Colibri to the point where I'm pretty sure they don't have slash resistance.

2k rampage wouldn't be possible with slash resistance.

Wearing strength/att, sneak attack a lesser colibri with an onion sword 10 times, repeat on a level 1 rabbit 10 times. If the peak damage is not the same, chances are one of the 2 has slashing resistance

    Re: Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

It may not be so much that slashing suffers a penalty as other weapon types (pierciiiiing) enjoy a great boost. If anything I'd imagine that blunt/h2h should have some kind of penalty on mobs weak to piercing, as a balance to the whole pot/skeleton thing (see: ghosts, right? weak to piercing, resistant to blunt?). I don't think I've ever noticed anyt particular mob class to be resistant to slashing and not the others, it always just seems neutral all around.

    Re: Greater Colibri: Slash resistance?

Giant birds get the piercing bonus and a slashing resistance but I think that's the only type that really has a slashing resistance (short of mobs like ghosts or jellies that give reduction to all). As for a slashing penalty, I can't say I've ever noticed it on colibri but if its small enough I probably wouldn't notice it just by eye.
