Laptops & weight?
Didn't really see this covered anywhere else, but I'm going to need a new laptop for college next year since my old one broke about halfway through last :D. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with 4-5 days/week commuting and if 6-7 lbs (roughly the weight of a laptop i'm looking into) is too much for that kind of traveling.
Thanks for any help

Re: Laptops & weight?
Nah, that weight isn't too bad. I took a 9lbs laptop to class and back for about a year, and it was never too heavy for me even with my books along with it. I'd recommend a laptop backpack or carrying case that you can sling around your shoulder. They're fairly cheap and you can buy them from bestbuy, newegg or whereever.

Re: Laptops & weight?
Unless your class schedule stacks up badly and you have to bring books for several classes at a time it really isn't that big of an issue. The obnoxiously large/thick/heavy I hate this class type of books aren't generally the type of classes you're really going to be bringing a laptop to anyways. And I assure you that asshole math/science book is going to weigh just as much if not more than a laptop.
You definately want to get a good bag to carry it in though. Don't forget to get a decent size bag if you're going to get a traveler bag instead of a backpack type.

Re: Laptops & weight?
Yep definitely a good bag. A well-designed one with a good padded strap and swiveling connections will make even the heavy 9 lb laptops pretty comfortable to tote around.
I personally use a 5.4 lb 14.1 widescreen notebook and tote it around in a Roadwired Skooba satchel, works great for me!

Re: Laptops & weight?
It's all about the shoulder strap on the bag. Swivel, heavily padded, no-slip surface, and curved at the shoulder. My fav bags are from Brenthaven. Those shoulder straps are perfect.

Re: Laptops & weight?
I keep my laptop in a backpack.
If you can't carry around at least 50 pounds in your pack, you're a pussy.
