No, that won't work at all. The skillchain & magic burst set want 20k+ XP/hour for just showing up at a camp. They want a spell that gives like 16.67 per tick XP regen. (We can call it Regimp.)
Yes, it would be terrible for them to gain 1/2 as much exp as the party who basically consists 1 or 2 hard working member and 4 half-afk players. Those lazy Skillchain users!! Always want the easy way out!

    Half AFK?

The fuck dude, do you know how much concentration you need to pull of WS within as soon as you hit 100% TP, retargetting the mob for next kill, voking adds/pulls and recasting shadow on top of all that? Try maintaining that for the next 2-3 hours.

Seriously, the party you describe that consist of half AFK 4 melee isn't gonna come even remotely close to 20k/hour that you are begging for.

Counting to 3 and spamming <tp> isn't exactly the hardest shit to do, especially when you can just skip the latter part, since everyone uses TParty anyway.

Skillchain party is fucking boring and inefficient since 90% of the time you'd be waiting on TP for one reason or the other, be it slower TP gain of your partner, or the fact that SC + MB would be too much an overkill on the mob.

Not to mention that spamming at 100% using your Jin and Rampage is probably a fuckload more damage than using Ku or Decimation at higher percentage, with or without SC effect. Sure it's nice seeing 100% mirror or 150% extra damage after your WS, but we all know that 50% of the time you'd just get the 10-50% lolSC damage.

The problem is that my exaggeration is barely an exaggeration. The skillchain and magic burst set don't seem to understand that very few TPburn parties will get 20k+ XP/hour and the ones that do have great gear and merits, and are putting a lot of work into it. Very few TPburn parties have the right group of people who will work well enough together to get the biggest of the big numbers, the vast majorities of the whiners wouldn't bother to put in the effort into getting that kind of XP.

I don't see why that would need to be exclusive to TP burns.

Increasing the strength/accuracy of SCs, unpopular weapon skills, adding secondary benefits by MBing, and adding camps/monsters/exp rules to benefit SCs/longer fights would simply make your average SC party not so bad and your great SC party more comparable to your great TP burn party. I think instant exp bonuses from using a SC is pretty lame, if that's what you are referring too.

I rather see the mechanics fixed and let the players decide if it's good.

I know that when I do Mamool Nyzul Isle (Last couple PT's were 25k/hr) we were all going 110% for over 3 hours to clear those mamool as quick as possible. People were running around, waiting for mobs to pop, BRD was waiting down at the bottom to grab the BLM so we could kept the chain, etc. By the end of those 3 hours I was pretty exhausted mentally.

I was a first job PLD, and remember all too well the 5-6k an hour parties that would last 10-12 hours long. I still remember falling asleep in those parties because the exp was so slow, and the fights so mundane. I truly feel that a solid TP burn takes a lot more skill than people are willing to give credit for. The difference being that in a TP burn it's all about reaction time, quick thinking, and adaption to different scenarios, as opposed to pressing the right button at the right time. (Even though that's in a nutshell what every video game is)

But then again, you could just get a brd or two and get the substantial haste/acc/att bonus all the time. 8)

I was speaking more of MP costs being reduced so BLM don't wear out or maybe lowered enmity gain, but I guess that works too.

There seems to be a lot of irony in seeing the comparison between:

The fuck dude, do you know how much concentration you need to pull of WS within as soon as you hit 100% TP, retargetting the mob for next kill, voking adds/pulls and recasting shadow on top of all that? Try maintaining that for the next 2-3 hours.
    and

Counting to 3 and spamming <tp> isn't exactly the hardest shit to do
, when in reality the former is just counting to 3 shadows and spamming /ws, turning perhaps 180 degrees and letting the game auto-target for you, and never hitting Provoke until the puller or healer is just within a sliver of HP, if even then.

A pulling BRD I can see, having to spin the camera and constantly find something to pull. The mage, perhaps, having to keep a constant Haste and Refresh cycle and everyone alive. But the melee claiming mental strain during a melee-based merit party from the sheer intensity of it all? Oh please...

Sort of on-topic edit: It would be nice if changes to accommodate both kinds of party setups didn't involve limiting the style of play that is favored now. However, I also think that if they do make changes in the way of adding new enemy types and camps, it will work for a while, until some kind of loophole or strategy is found around it that's going to just bring things back to the way they were (favoring one style greatly over the other).

Having only been a melee in TP burns, it's fun as hell, just a nonstop slaughterfest.

When I did Rdm in my old static, I actually left/quit the job because the exp was too slow against IT++ Crabs, getting SC+MBed down, when we had the night before been chaining T and VT mobs.

Rdm was a lot more fun when I was constantly juggling things, as opposed to watching a stupidly high mob get whittled to death, being so bored I was MBing trying to kill the thing faster, etc.

Auto-target in merit = no thanks (except for the one person everyone else /assists).

Unless you enjoy fighting 4 mobs at once.

I usually hit Switch Target just as the current mob is about to die and quickly select the one I see the point man has chosen (or at least a sleeping one that I'm not facing until the next mob is chosen) so I don't have to sheath and unsheath my axes between fights.

The difference is pacing and frequency.

On a good TPburn, you are killing 1 mob every 30-40 seconds, which means you practically spam those shit non stop for however long you decide to merit. It gets really tiring after a while, it's not something you can do "half afk"

Not to mention that if you're hardcore on your melee job, you'd be pressing pretty decent amount of macro to switch from TP/WS, and when you hit 100% in like 30 fucking seconds, it's not exactly the oxymorons all these pro-SC/MB party make it out to be.

Also, it takes fucking effort and good players to get the 20k+/hour that people seem to be flaunting as the "standard" for TPburning.

You don't just grab 4 random melee/nin + RDM + BRD and have the melee semi AFK and 20k/hour just come like that.

In fact, there are only 4 camps in the game that have 20k+/hour potential to begin with, which are north camp of Bhaflau, Nyzul Mamools. and each of the colibri ledge, provided that they're empty. All the other camp caps somewhere between 15-18kish/hour.

2 of those camps I listed, would rip a 4 melee 2 mage party apart easily, and any of the camp can destroy any party "semi-afk" DD.

The monotony make it seem like meleeburning is easy or doesn't require effort, but all things considered, it's something that requires more focus on gear/merit along with actual concentration, since the difference in letting a WS go off at 100% and 130% adds up fast.

I can only wish that I can grab any random 4 DD on pickup a BRD, and a RDM and get 20k/hour anywhere...because that kind of shit doesn't fucking happens.

Really, nowadays if I was to be placed on an SC + MB party, I'd be extremely bored just because of the kill is probably slower, chain probably won't go nearly as high since there is no way any mage can MB all SC after chain 5 and not run out of MP by the teens, and if you don't have MB on every SC, that'd just make the party a pseudo TP-burn anyway.

TPburn strains the melee into focusing waaaaaaaay more than SC + MB parties will ever do.

so kuno cant come on blm to magic burst (for god knows how much damage) for good exp?

i know he put a lot of time and work into getting his gear just like everybody else, but because he's on blm, he doesnt deserve good exp?

what BRP is saying is that an equally well-geared, equally well-working machine of a STANDARD party, should get the same 20k+ XP/hour that TPburn PTs get. some things just need to be fixed to accomadate (sp?) that, be it an exp+ for skillchains/MBs or mobs that yield high exp but are hard to melee down without large skillchains/MBs (and take extra dmg). Maybe a qutrub~ish type mob that has double the HP, takes 50% physical and magical dmg, and takes uh... twice as much dmg as the normal qutrub to SC dmg (and magic burst dmg), yielding uh... 500 base exp or something. the numbers are probably off, but you get the idea.

Put said mobs in an outside ToAU area for a nice respawn, put a lot of them there, and each standard PT can pull 1, and not pull another for anothing minute, minute30, or 2 minutes---and a lot of standard PTs could occupy the same area assuming the density was pretty high.

It doesnt hurt existing camps/people still have to have good gear to get good MBs/SCs to kill the things/lot of people have a new camp

    win/win/win/win

Make mobs with very high HP.

Give EXP for performing SC's and MBs.

Mob EXP Value * SC Tier * MB Bonus

EXP is the amount of EXP you'd get for killing the mob before EXP Chain bonuses.

    SC TierI: .05
    SC TierII: .10
    SC TierIII: .20

    MB Bonus: 1.5

Also, have SCs and MBs extend the time you have between kills to help chains.

Now you're rewarding players for SCing and MBing. Instead of nerfbatting TP burns.

Re: FFXIclopedia interview with Development Team at E3

I'm MNK, THF, and NIN, and I've been in several 19k-24k/hr merit parties, with me being top or second highest DD (second only to Kraken or Ridill WARs), and I have to agree with those who've said it's a borefest.

It does not take near the effort you're describing, and the only thing that's mentally tiring is trying to follow the log to see if I need to re-apply my food because I usually don't watch my top bar (Meat Mithkabobs for the win), or occasionally provoke off the BRD if I'm on NIN. You make it sound like it takes some kind of skill to be good in a fast TP burn party, when really all it takes is a good understanding of what equipment to use, and common sense.

I auto-target during merits because typically, if everyone is around the same place on a mob and facing the same way, they will usually auto-target the same mob. If there are multiple mobs I usually call out which one we'll fight next, halfway through the mob.

I've played merit parties on my wife's Bard, too, and while it takes a little bit more effort, it's about the same. The only thing to watch for as the pulling BRD is to not die from the pulls.

The fact is, neither party setup actually takes any effort, so stop trying to claim it does.

make some "sc+mb" mobs that give a base xp of 266, that a tpburn wants to stay away from. make mb clear blms/smn/rdm hate... maybe.

    apkallu: mb resets apkallu hate
wivre: mb gives 2x dmg bonus
qutrub: i dunno, same as wivre i guess, double their HP.
a new set of pld trolls maybe? idk

don't mess with current tpburn mobs.

Here's what 9 pages boils down to.

Player 1: I don't get 15k+ an hour. Nerf the people that get 15k+ an hour. /emo cry

Player 2: Well take up a different jobs to get merits, and dont get the world turned back to the old 5K an hour.

god damn you would think in 9 pages some one would kill this.

Heres a fix for this. Add an area where the monsters have weaknesses to skill chains where they have triple the modifiers on them. and they have higher amounts of exp gained when killed with a skill chain in the battle. The only thing as it would have to be very tough so tp burns can chew up that area.

Or just realize that any and all jobs will do better without skillchains anyways, with the right setup. Manaburns, meleeburns both do better and any bloody job can fit into one. (I realise you can't throw in a PUP, a DRG, a PLD, a BLM, a THF and a SMN and go to the trolls and get 20k/h+, but each of the jobs can do fine in a merit pt as long as the setup ain't retarded.)

And if you want over 10-15k/h, stop going with pickup parties to filled up camps and get a LS merit pt going instead. 9/10 of the times, you'll get 15k/h or more unless the ppl suck or you just don't know how to set up an effective pt.

I'm not against them doing something beneficial for SC users, EXP-wise, but I just see skillchains as part of killing certain HNMs, not as exp/merit means... <_<
