Firewall

So I need to enter some ports so I can download something but my firewall is in the way. I follow the walkthru and when I get to where I click on the Firewall icon I get a message. "Due to some unidentified problems, Windows can not display firewall settings.

Is there a way around this or something? Or how should I go about fixing this?

The Windows Firewall (and most software ones) doesn't block outgoing connections...

Well I'm trying to D/l the free 10 day trial of WoW but is taking so long because of firewall blocking it.

either their servers suck or your download speed sucks ... cause (and correct me if I an wrong) a firewall wont just block part of a connection ... its a all or none thing.

Well it is at 8% and its been going for about 13hrs But I can D/l FFXI in under 1hr with all expansions and shit. Kinda strange I guess.

Since you've not detailed what firewall your using, ISP or anything, i'd suggest stopping download > disabling and shutting down firewall and restart download.

That's assuming it is your firewall. As Rehont said, it could be shit servers or a number of other issues.

If your using the WoW torrent thing from the official site... either try download.com or something of the sort, or try going into options and select use FTP or disable Peer2Peer or something like that. I remember I tried the torrent download, it was so slow, but my friend went into options and disabled the whole torrent part and he said it went a lot faster.

Ok well I guess it was dumb of me to forget to add all the info in but I just noticed something real bad on my behalf.

Last night when I was cleaning my pc I deleted my DvD drive from my pc. So instead of making a new thread would anyone be as soo kind to tell me where I can D/l or if I can even D/l one ?

I have lost the Cd for it awhile ago and don't have the funds to buy a whole new one.

Pretty sure you can just go to Control Panel -> Add Hardware and let it search for installed hardware.

I Uninstalled it I'm pretty sure. Was trying to clean Pc and it backfired ._.;

No I mean you can do that because Windows already has a lot of drivers ready to be installed when you install the operating system. You could always try http://www.driverguide.com/ though, if for whatever reason Windows can't find the driver for it (Rare, or if you are using 95-2000). Just do the Add hardware thing and if it says it can't find it, then try driverguide.

I think he may mean the DVD authoring software, Nero etc.

Yea wont let me use DvDs and stuff. I put em in drive and nothing happens :/ I need to learn to leave stuff alone.

Uninstalling Nero wouldn't cause the drive to stop working. Go to Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager and tell me if the DVD drive is listed there, if not you just need to reinstall the driver.

What happens if you click the drive (D:\ E:\ F:\ whatever you use) in My Computer? It could be you just turned off Autoplay.

I only got Local disk(C and when I click on it just a list of stuff that is under it pops up.

Go back into Device Manager, uninstall the current driver (right click the DVD drive and click uninstall)and restart your computer, Windows should automatically reinstall it. It should work after that.
