Do they allow non-frenchies into that territory? Or are there people from the neighboring countries that fish there?

Well, there are a few articles about it in non-tabloid publications such as National Geographic, and Snopes has determined some truth to it, as well, citing a letter from the Reunion Island government admitting it (although indicating that it was illegal and not widespread). So I wouldn't say "no one".

Except that National Geo's sources were those same animal rights nuts, which hardly counts as independent verification. Why would a fisherman hook the snout of bait, when it's so easy for a shark to just eat the bottom half of the dog and not get caught on the hook itself?

Everything about that picture screams 'Accidental hooking overblown by people with an agenda and desperate to push a cause with sensational photography.' Nothing about it says to me 'Bigger issue than the civil wars killing/maiming millions in other parts of Africa.' The article says that the practice happens in only a handful of cases. This is hardly an epidemic of feeding Fluffy to Jaws for sport.

But then again the animal rights movement always did have skewed priorities with regards to life, and they've time and again proven impervious to logical perspective on the problems facing the earth.

Kuya: You put a quote of mine next to someone elses, not sure if you're trying to pass it off as me contradicting myself, but I never said anything about my nation hating french people or anything about french people at all.
No, that was a non serious comment aimed at Shuemue.

I merely see it as caring about things that in some way have an effect on my life. People are way to stressed about things they have absolutely no control over. I simply choose not to feel any stress over things out of my sphere of influence.

When you put it that way then i can understand where you are coming from, and you'd be perfectly logical to say that. I think that's part of the Stoic phylosophy. But it also doesn't make sense to let the death of a dog that is unfamiliar to you bother you, just as much as people dieng that you do not know. It would make the most sense, applying your phylosophy, to not care at all for both.

I don't have a scary perspective on life, just a different one. That doesn't make me dangerous.
I don't mean a danger to others, as i don't have any logical proof to say that you are, but rather a danger to your own mentality, as it puts into question your ability to function in a society of humans. In a sense that you place more worth on a single unknown dog over a thousand unknown humans, and that makes me wonder.

Realistically, people care more about a lot of things than other people, provided said people are far enough away. People are dying all over the world right now. Starving, poor living conditions, no water, disease, etc. Whether in far off Africa or downtown Wherever USA, Im sure you can find plenty of real human beings in desperate need.

But how much of their disposable income does the average North American give away to charitable organizations or help funds? Not very much. Which means that, strictly speaking, most people care more about having a couple cups of coffee from Starbucks, a new videogame, or a couple of beers than they care about saving other human beings.

It would make more sense to not care about either. But I loves dogs as a species more than I love humans as a species. Humans are cruel for the sake of being cruel whereas dogs are loving just because that's all they know. We might be more intelligent, more advanced and more capable than dogs, but that doesn't mean we are more valuable than they are. My life is more enriched by my two dogs than it is by any person in this world, family and fiance not included.

And really i don't see how my perspective is in any way dibilitating to my ability to function as a member of society. You don't always like people you go to school with, but you function in school and get your work done while looking forward to being with people who do matter to you. You don't always like people you work with but you function and go about your day while looking forward to being with those who matter to you. I'm not advocating my perspective or preaching it in any manner, for pretty much everyone else i'm sure my perspective is sick perverse. But, it's no different than how perverse i find it how people devote their lives to things I consider foolish, not to start another derail but religion for example.

Your opinion is based on the negative aspect of humanity, if you only look at the bad, then you can't really blame it on people when you only want to see them as bad. A dog is hardly capable of desmotrating what it really thinks about you. What you consider love, could very well be the dog considering you nothing but a provider, but that's just an assumption, as your view of dogs is.

When it comes down to it, every creature on this planet is only after it's own survival, humans are no different, dogs are no different. If dogs were as intelligent as we are, I have no doubt they would do the same things we do, it's the consecuence of our nature.

I understand what you're saying. It's not that I blame people, and I know I have a negative opinion of humanity. You make a valid point about how a dog 'views' me as a provider more likely than with affection. But, even with that said I still find more of a reason to care for that creature than people. I really just don't see the positive in humanity. I really don't see what's so great about every living person in the world that I should care what happens to everyone. I dont' think that anyone should care about what happens to me either if they don't know me, or even if they do for that matter.

All of this is really peripheral anyway and goes away from the point of me not concerning myself with things that don't affect me. And it's just a matter of personal perspective that it angers me more to see the body of a dead dog than the body of a dead person. I get more upset watching animal precinct than I do unsolved mystery's. Even though a strange dog has no bearing on the course of my life I still feel more pity for it than I would a person who had no bearing on the course of my life. I have no deep reasoning as to why except I like dogs more than people, again not including people that i know and do care about.

Heh, I never said I was going to kill people. Million's of people die every day and the world doesn't care, why is it so different when someone actually verbalizes that they don't care? My life revolves around people I know, when one of them dies i care but in all reality that's pretty much the extent of it. Can you really say you're any different?

Edit: I'm not an unhappy person, i'm not particularly happy either. I'm more happy now than I used to be, but happiness really has nothing to do with it. It's really just my perspective on this situation is realistic. I don't feel the need to fool myself that I care about every living person in the world to feel good about myself. I have people that I care about and people that care about me, If that circle expands it'll include those people. I'm not heartless either, I just don't really concern myself with stuff that in all reality doesn't affect me.
I can say I'm different. That you lack empathy for other people, even if you don't know them, is really sad.

I am happy that you are different. I'm not asking for people to understand or attempt to utilize my perspective. I don't find it sad though that I can recognize problems without getting myself emotionally involved in them. As simple as it is to me I don't think the explanation is. It's not that I lack empathy for people, I can recognize and think it's sad the things that happen to other people, it just doesn't affect me on an emotional level in any way. If you think that's sad so be it, i just think that's life. The difference between me and you is i've accepted that it doesn't affect me in any way and you somehow feel connected to people on a worldly level; because of this I don't care and you do.

I'm really not a depressive emo person who goes around shunning people and laughing at them when they fall down (even though it's usually funny). i just really don't put any concern into the world that doesn't concern me any more than if I existed on this planet 2 thousand years ago and didn't know they existed in the first place.
