The only thing I can think about nudes is that if everyone was like that every day, it would lose whatever appeal it may have had (the forbidden-fruit angle, and I also doubt a guy can hold a hard-one all day, but for some reason I feel someone's going to prove that...), and just become commonplace, as to which we'd then switch back to clothes as a %#*@ing cold wind lets out.

Nudity? Not in my country!
Nudity in and of itself is not "obscene". It's the natural human form. Culturally, here, it can be, and also either inappropriate, erotic, or art, depending on the context. Why is dependent on various religious and social conceptions that have been passed down for generations, and are gradually built up on, carried on, or slowly changed. Logic doesn't always enter into cultural norms. I can give lots of reasons why nudity is "bad", but they'd all be based on the fact that it breaks/disrupts common social practices, rather than nudity being bad in and of itself. Do you remember what bathing suits used to look like? Anything less than that was "indecent" and today's bathing suits certainly would be considered so. Go back far enough and a woman showing off her -ankles- was considered risque.
Which brings us, I suppose, to a positive consequence of "nudity=bad". The element of mystery. Wondering what someone else looks like under the clothes is exciting. Clothing that teases and tempts but doesn't give it all away is sexy. If everyone was naked all the time, there'd be nowhere left to go. It ceases to be of interest. (actually, I think in some cultures where nudity/little clothing is the norm, the reverse is then true, but I don't have any sources for that, so don't quote me on it)
Blame the Catholic church.
The end.
I blame Eve. If she hadn't eaten that damned apple, we never would have realized we were naked!Originally Posted by miokomioko

It's a learned behaviour. Babies/small children have no body shame until their parents teach them that they have to cover up. It's normal to us because that's how we have been raised.Originally Posted by arlania
Not really, it's based mostly on the mentality given by society and/or religion. It's very easy to find civilizations that didn't have absolutely anything against nudity.Originally Posted by arlania
So basically, yes, blame the Catholic Church.
I blame colder countries invading/colonizing all the warmer countries and forcing them to wear clothes because...well because that's how they did things in the colder countries.
And because clothes are comfortable and being naked isn't...really.
I'd imagine wearing clothes would be uncomfortable in the case of being very self conscience, but i presume it should be more comfortable than wearing clothes, without taking into account the weather that is.![]()
And yea, i'd imagine if we were still nakid, eventually nakid bodies would stop being sexual, and ergo erotic. What i do wonder is if in a society were nudity is the norm would there be less cases of sexual perverssion (i.e. rape)? Not like that matters much as there is no point in going back to walking around in the nude.
natural perky titties would be a thing of the past if everyone was nude, it's too much collateral damage to see everything.
THINK ABOUT IT
In alot of European countries naked men and women are on public TV shows and commercials without complain. It's part of the culture. Sex isn't a bad thing, it's encouraged at puberty in some cultures - yet they don't have the same problems we do. It's about the social perspective, not the dumb things people say like boners and getting raped etc etc. It's not about living in the a nudist society, the question is why does this country find the naked body so offensive.
The obvious answer is because religion tells us to. Extremists go so far as to complain that nude art is offensive, it's ridiculous. It's the assassination of pleasure. Nude bodies are pleasing to the eye, the reason so much attention and the pornography label is attached is because it's considered taboo to have sex, talk about sex, think about sex, view sex - and nudity instantly equals sex because of this taboo.
If people were more open minded then they could draw the difference between when a naked body means sex, and when a naked body is just a naked body. Unfortunately society isn't so mature as to make this realization.
And for the argument about "oh if some hot 20 year old women was walking around and these dudes would get boners that's obscene," then how come indigenous tribes in South America and Africa walk around all day naked and there are no "obscenity" problems or rape problems or pornography problems.
It's all about social perspective, not about morals or cause and effect if it were the case. We've just been taught to be afraid of ourselves from the inside out.
I don't think it's offensive.
I do think male nudity is hilarious regardless of body type. Right? Right??
Very good question OP. Like someone else said, we don't necessarily need to be running around naked full time, but the idea of nakedness should be far from it's current taboo state (and I think it's currently going that way, which is a good thing). It almost seems childish to be so embarrassed of nudity.
Progression/evolution/whatever. We've advanced beyond the point of barbaric nudity. Also, the reason why it is associated with sex is because that is what most people will... well, associate it with. When you ask for more naked women in a movie, I highly doubt it is not related to sexual/fapping/etc. purposes. Maybe some weird modern art thing. Now you might argue "but is sex really that wrong???" Going back to barbaric-ness, thinking mostly about sex is so primitive. Sure, it gives us more babies and brings happiness, but there are plenty of other good things to do in this world. It's all about moderation.
But to be honest, if most people didn't just associate it with sex, it would hardly be a problem. But in this day and age...why does nudity need to be so open? Shouldn't we be helping those less fortunate, and more, er, nude? That being said, I really hope I don't live to see the day where everyone is naked/aborting babies left-and-right/has no morals.
I lol'd. And not in the "with you" way. That being said, I really hope I don't live to see the day where everyone is naked/aborting babies left-and-right/has no morals.
