From now on all logical fallacies have to be expressed with pictures of naked fat people.
I'm not going to start(after a sad 60 seconds of doing a google image search on the subject), but slippery slope is as good as place as any.
Sure lets say we started tomorrow and everyone in the US had to be naked in public. Sure it would start out gross and fucked up and not appropriate for children to see...
But if it went on and on like that, eventually it would just become, how things are. Think about it if were the opposite right now, and you told society, "why dont we start wearing clothes and cover up our nakedness?"
Society would have the same reaction:
"OMG WTF, WHY THE HELL WEAR CLOTHES, THATS JUST NOT APPROPRIATE, WE MUST ALL BE NAKED THATS HOW GOD MADE US!"
So when the gorgeous 20 year old female dentist walks into the room of the 40 year old male, he would eventually stop getting a raging hard on because it would be natural for him to see hot naked women all the time.
just my thoughts....yeah it would gross i dont wanna see Rosanne naked, (really, i dont lol), but shit eventually it would just be common and youd get used to it and think there was no other way but this, and clothes would be "wrong."
And shit ok ill admit it, tbh i could live with seeing the 70% nasty obese in this country for the chance to see Jessica Alba and that hot girl next door naked all day. =)^^^^^
I don't find nudity to be offensive. I do find it hard to take anyone seriously when they're wearing booty shorts or a tube top, though. I think that people who dress like that should be prepared for people to oggle. Seriously, if you have a nice body and you're walking around revealing more of it than most people tend to do, don't fucking whine about it when people look. So annoying.
Edit:
Really, I like clothes for this particular reason. I don't know about you guys, but I look at porn on a regular basis. I started off with normal 1-man-1-woman porn, sometimes a little softcore lesbian action. And for a while, that was good. That was enough. Eventually, though, I kind of built up a tolerance. I got desensitized to consensual sex between adults in the missionary position, so I had to move on to more explicit porn. That was like 5 years ago. At this point, it's totally fucking out of hand. My tastes have gotten so extreme and so specific that I wish I had never started in the first place. I don't want to see hot people naked all the time, because I don't want to become desensitized to it.Originally Posted by Bkbahamut

And aroused.
if nuditys so bad y dont liek dogs an cats wear clothes lol...
In all seriousness though, I am sort of on the fence about this issue; I might chime back in at a later date if I make up my mind ;3.
Nudity really shouldn't be offensive. I think most of the points as to why have been brought up already. It's just amusing to read some of the wording people use in reference to naked people:
"barbaric"
"fat & ugly"
"dirty"
etc.
Just goes to show that what's been pounded in everyone's heads is blindly accepted. It would be a better world if people thought outside the box. I'd like to also point out that even in North America there are plenty of men on nude beaches who don't walk around with raging hard-ons in the presence of naked women, whether they're hot or not. Personally I'm naked in my own home as much as possible when it's warm enough. I find that I'm a hell of a lot more comfortable sans clothes. I don't go without clothes when I have company over of course, because it's not polite to impose my lifestyle on others, but if people weren't so uptight I probably would, but I'm not sure. Thanks to soceity and silly upbringing I'd probably be too ashamed to, which is really sad.
yeah, i like to walk around naked, albeit in my own room with the door firmly locked
i figured when i had my own place, with wonderful drapes and locked doors, i'd walk around the place naked, do the things that i normally do clothed, naked (except maybe cooking, dont want to burn myself >_>)
i think people find nudity offensive because people find unattractive things offensive and invasive. a fat/ugly/hairy/whatever naked man looks at you. You're offended by his naked body, and feel that your personal space is invaded by it. clothes protect you by keeping other people behind cotton/polyester bars where you're safe![]()
Could you imagine public places like buses if everyone was naked? Buses are already a weirdo magnet. If everyone was naked you would have to deal with peoples nasty hygiene.
I'm not offended by nakedness, but like Ivve said it's nice to get that "whoa sweet!" feeling when you see someone naked. If it happened all the time, that feeling wouldn't exist.
And yeah, fuck sitting on a bus after some nasty person (with god knows what kinds of diseases in their nether-regions) gets up.
I don't think it's a matter of living in nudist society. As far as my views are I don't think that's the way to go, because I generally like fashion and such. And you can tell a bit about someone by how they dress. I think it's just the standard of, why do people get so butthurt if they see public nude art, or an artfully done nude photo. Why is it bad for children to be exposed to naked bodies in art or film, and why is it so taboo that it's banned and movies must be rated due to it?Originally Posted by Ddz
I think that's the real question we should examine, not whether or not society would be a nice place if people were walking around naked all the time.
Aren't we overblowing how easily offended people are by nudity? Nude art is constitutionally protected, and there's nothing preventing parents from taking their children to go see it at any museum in the United States. 'Rated R' does not mean 'censored and children never see it.'
What matters to families, however, is that they have the right to keep the education of their own children under their own control. So if I don't want my kids to see a Mapplethorpe photography exhibit (yeah I'm not going to tell you what that is, Google it if ye dare) then that's my right as a parent. It has nothing to do with getting 'butthurt' or excessively offended by the nature of the art itself.
The OP asks a loaded question, and makes it seem like those opposed to exposing the young to casual nudity are these 18th century prudes with no appreciation for nature. That's really not the case. You seriously cannot be a parent or guardian of young kids and not have alarm bells going off in your head if a grown man/woman tries to expose your kids to nudity. You just can't. There have just been too many pedophiles in the news to be automatically okay with it. Err on the side of safety when it comes to your kids, and if the subject ever comes up, it's up to the parents and not some movement of hippies promoting their own 'get naked' lifestyle in front of families. Imposition is a two-way street.
Which is why a left tit at the Super Bowl required a congressional hearing.Originally Posted by Correction

No we aren't, look at the poll results i posted, and if you want, i can provide you the link. I wouldn't call that site top quality information, but it's a start. And like MF Perm said, if people weren't so offended by nudity, the left tit wouldn't have caused such a stir.Originally Posted by Correction
There's a problem with leaving the choice of education only at the hands of parents. I mean we have parents who would take their children out of a classes because it might teach evolution, and this might conflict with their beliefs. We've already learned of the rewards of sexual education at schools, and not just leaving such things to parents, but sadly even some parents refuse that.Originally Posted by Correction
I don't quite understand the point of your third paragraph, pedophiles huh? Children observing nude bodies on the tv will put them in the hands of pedophiles how? Or perhaps you mean children being around naked people in the streets will put them in harms way. Lets ignore the fact that it has been stated multiple times that the point isn't to get people to walk around the streets in the nude, but i also don't quite see the difference between a clothed pedophile and a nude one. Or maybe you mean the publization(sp?) of pedophiles has made parents even more paranoid of nudity, but there is nothing inherently agaisnt nudity there. When did i ask for a social revolution where we all crowed the streets naked? My only point was to question the reasons why nudity is seen as such a bad thing. Because, "It's just wrong", isn't a good enough answer for me.Originally Posted by Correction
You misunderstand the concern. Turn it around. What would you think of an adult who put nude imagery in front of your child?Children observing nude bodies on the tv will put them in the hands of pedophiles how?
It isn't a bad thing. But we're not to judge people who do not wish to expose their young to it. That's their choice. My only point was to question the reasons why nudity is seen as such a bad thing.
Sex ed doesn't enter into this. It's about what a nude body means, which is a whole lot of different things depending on the context. Nudes enter art as much as they do sex. But again the ability to tell the two apart is and has always been the privilege of parents to teach their children. Just try to take that away, I dare you to try. We've already learned of the rewards of sexual education at schools, and not just leaving such things to parents, but sadly even some parents refuse that.
Clothes are practical, useful things in a society. I don't see a need to stigmatize a lifestyle where clothing is viewed as promoting good hygiene and social standing. Yeah there are tons of prudes in America but guess what? They're probably not outnumbered by the nudist movement. Democracy's funny that way.
I would assume the usual reaction would be that of indignation at the idea of a stranger presenting nude imagery to a child. My reaction would be to question who this person was, was it a teacher who showed my child nude images, for what purpose? Could you flesh out what you mean with this? As i don't understand how that connects to the intention of dispelling the negative ideas attached to the nude body. You misunderstand the concern. Turn it around. What would you think of an adult who put nude imagery in front of your child?
That is in fact the problem, many parents do not put forth the effort to tell the two apart. But again the ability to tell the two apart is and has always been the privilege of parents to teach their children. Just try to take that away, I dare you to try.
Again my intention isn't to stygmatize clothing, as there is no point in that. Except social standing, oh how i loathe those words.Clothes are practical, useful things in a society. I don't see a need to stigmatize a lifestyle where clothing is viewed as promoting good hygiene and social standing. Yeah there are tons of prudes in America but guess what? I don't think so, there's plenty of examples where people's oversensitivities about things get in the way of actually getting things doneAren't we overblowing how easily offended people are by nudity? 'Rated R' does not mean 'censored and children never see it.'
Example: look at movie ratings (or game ratings, which have it worse due to being newer) - higher ratings means less sales, if the rating is too high you won't make enough money. If you have something thats required to make what you're doing the way you want it to be, but it's gonna make a "Rated Mature", you're gonna have to find a way to change it, cause "Mature" is gonna bring sales down too much. In the end you're forced to settle for something that's not quite what you wanted it to be, because the ratings people don't like the original and if they don't like it, you don't get your paycheck. And when you get down to it, getting payed beats being creative most of the time
This is just one small example, but you get the idea
That's /thread for me. Not to mention the multi-million dollary porn industry and 'employees' you'll be putting out of business. For shame...Originally Posted by Ivve
Nudity and shame of oneself are all tied to religion. I am an atheist and would see nothing wrong if anyone chose to go clothes free at any time. Nudity DOES NOT equal sex. This perception needs to change as do many of the laws. I know where I live that if it were announced that nudity was completely legal from tomorrow on that I would fully expect to see ZERO naked people that day, or the next, walking around town. People are too scared, too ashamed of their own bodies and would not want to face the ridicule that they themselves would also engage in, if they and their friends saw someone else nude. Gradually people may be more at ease in gardening naked or going for a Sunday drive or bicycle ride but it would be gradual and I suspect completely inoffensive to all but a few of the God Squad!
It is a shame, Skyylya, that you said that some people definitely need to stay covered up. This says to me that you are still judging people because of their body type. Why don't we just force all ugly people to wear masks as well then!
