But what does Justice Torque have to do with Mighty Strikes? (MS is used by Hope..)
Only correlation I could find by looking over the drop lists, is STR being integral to WAR. It's pretty loose. I've been trying to make heads or tails of the drop lists, but barring a few anomalies here and there, the stats on the Torque seem to have more to do with the virtue of the Jailer then the job it carries. I guess if Torques helped to lock anything, you'd want at least Hope, Faith and Prudence to stop Mijin Gakure, Chainspell and Manafront.Originally Posted by Kilik
Thought I saw something earlier when I pulled out the basic drop list, and noticed that Temperance and Justice both carried each other's jobs equipment as SAM and BST, but it seems to just be a anomaly of the drop lists. There's a few other things, like how Faith, Love and Prudence seem to have gear each other's jobs would like to have, and you'd kill them in a order that would get you all this gear if it dropped in a straight line, but it just gets even more far-fetched from there. Even more so when you see Fort has a PLD's wish list of stats on his dropped gear, as a PLD, or that Love has the Polearm and +Polearm Torque.
Wish there was something down this alley, but it just seems to be a bunch of loose connections due to the low number of drop lists to spread out the coincedences.
Justice is the anti-Hope, of course. Criminals can hope to go free, but the justice system will keep them down.Originally Posted by Kilik

Faith Torque(MND), I suppose. Which just makes the theory seem less probable, given one Torque would have to lock out every 2hr that corresponds to that stat's related job. Justice alone(STR) alone, whew...
If the weapons/torques have any relation to locking out stuff at all my guess would be it's an elemental thing.
They all have a single stat on them which relates to an element.
Temperance: CHR = Light
Faith: MND = Water
Fortitude: VIT = Earth
Justice: STR = Fire
Hope: AGI = Wind
Prudence: INT = Ice
Love: DEX = Thunder
Just leaves darkness without anything to represent it. Then just use them all in conjunction and by your powers combined...

And justice made "Mighty Strikes" have no effect? Would make sense since Mighty Strikes is "fire" based.
But I repeat...
POIDH.
Umm, yeah...that reminds me way too much of that 'legendary' thread over at KI, where it was mentioned that Fire resist increased your defense against WARs, since Warrior is fire-based, and everyone should 'go pro' on DRK like the JP, and equip dark element on DRK, because DRK are dark-based.
Left field hi2u!
I am serious about making some attempts so when i'm asking for facts its not just because i'm thinking we can miraculously do something that others have not, I'm asking for facts because I'm trying to build a team that can manage to hold AV long enough to test out some of these theories without having to have full wipes every 2 minutes.
We did ultima on saturday and we didn't have a single pld death to citadel buster. Nor did I even feel any danger from it. Why? Cause our team came prepared. I know ultima is different than AV (by far) but can a set up be put together to resist meteor and aeroga IV to keep the pld's alive long enough for the team to get some actual testing time in? This is why I am looking for facts.
However, it seems I was off base, so I appologize for doubting you hapernack. No one seems interested in facts here lol. I would really really appreciate it if anyone is willing to help answer some questions, would love to just have some serious discussion about AV based on facts and/or actual possible strat ideas please send me a PM.
I'll just head on back to the shadows and continue reading year old posts ^^
None of these facts are particularly ground-breaking, but I'll contribute what I can in the way of concrete information.
- Comet and Meteor are non-elemental damage, it isn't possible to resist them, there's no element for it so you can't build an elemental resistance set. You can cut the damage down with magic damage -% and MDB in theory.
- Proto-Utlima also exhibits similar behavior when it comes to changing modes at 79%, it's possible that AV has 5 different phases.
- According to the fanfest defeating as many of JoL's ru'phuabo before fighting AV will remove half of his regen.
- The other half of the regen is removed by casting elemental spells corresponding to the current day on AV.
So something on the line like the last boss of Chrono Cross, where you had to cast/do different elemental based abilitys in one order to weaken the boss at all?Originally Posted by Finndel
in correlation with the Virtues that drop along that would make this order:
CHR (1. virtue)
VIT (2. virtue)
MND (3. virtue)
STR (4. virtue)
AGI (5. virtue)
INT (6. virtue)
DEX (with no virtue drop from love)
so magic order would be this and the possible enfeeb magics (leavign out blu enfeeb):
light: dia
earth: slow, rasp
water: drown, poison
fire: burn
wind: silence, choke
ice: frost, paralyze
thunder: shock
might be also a nuke pattern, maybe if one enfeeb is on it opens the possibility to stick the next one on to it.
1.Dia
2.Slow/elegy
3.poison (since fire has only burn as enfeeb)
4.burn
5.choke/silence
6.paralyze (frost cannot stick because of burn)
7.shock
Someone mentioned way some time ago when AV was poped 1. time or so , that they had no problem to stick burn on it or poison (maybe misread). just some Idea, yet the only thing from AV I have experienced was instacast tornado II for pwnage (LS never realy attempted AV)
Stun is also thunder-based. Unless you just mean enfeebling magic-based, in which case Burn/Choke/Shock are all elemental magic.
I've noticed that a lot of suggestions that come across that people SWEAR by, are probley not even in the mechanics of FFXI to implement, let alone SE being that creative to implement something that complicated in the first place.
sry when listing elements he has to be mentionedOriginally Posted by LinktheDeme
That would be awesome since all I've seen AV do is rape everyone in the vicinityOriginally Posted by Elipse
That JoL Phuabo thing still sounds weird to me. Why would killing them have anything to do with AV and more importantly why does SE only give hints about the regen. That's the least of your troubles when he goes around on his fun 2hr spree.
Does anyone have the actual interview from the fanfest? All I can find is the stuff they posted on POL (and red ferrari nonsense) and I wanna see what those other hints are that supposedly noone picked up on.
yet there is a Jailor of Temperance that switches his weakpoint to different styles of weaponclasses (piercing/blunt/slashing)Originally Posted by Izzy
I meant in generall magic that causes status ailments over a longer period of time. left stun out. Left BLU out because BLU was implemented after AV.Originally Posted by Sagacious Sundi
His Aero V / Aeroga IV / Tornado II spam can be reduced using the right damage reduction / resist setup (combo of both recommended) to a point where its manageable. However the Meteor spam is the thing that causes insta-wipes. As was said before, its non-elemental which means there's no resist set. Plus the damage from AV's meteor is freaking ridiculous... our people and as far as I can tell from screens from other servers (mages and melee other than tank-types) Meteor damage ranges on tanks from 2400-2600 upwards to hitting mages/melee for over 6000. There's just no possible way to get that down a a manageable amount.

Perhaps I don't have enough experience with this but this suggests that its closer to citadel buster in damage and would indeed be manageable. That would put this in the relm of survivability for any pld tank, unless there is something I'm missing?
That's not even close to on-par with some of the way out there suggestions that have been posted here.Originally Posted by Damane
what element is "call wyvern" listed as? seems like the torque one should be the easiest in the list to debunk by putting that torque element on him and seeing if he stops summoning wynavs. i don't buy it though, b/c if that were the case, you'd keep popping unbeatable AV's until love finally put out a torque. either way, once you pop him, elipse, should be an easy one to put to bed.
