iirc, someone mentioned a while ago that SE/bw wasn't doing the right amount of damage to AV, being only a fraction of what was expected. having not tested this, i pass it along with my usual "take it at your own risk" tag, but coupled with his surely fairly high evasion and supremely devistating spells, such as near-instant meteor, i highly doubt you'd make it anywhere, if you even lived to see 79%.

as for the comments about regen and bene, i highly suspect they're both written in katakana (i seem to remember seeing the text for at least regen being katakana.) this indicates to me that if they were using naturally selected language, IE they were saying av's HP recovery and not the specific term "regen", they'd select a native word in hiragana/kanji and not a katakana translation of an english word. if that were the case, i highly doubt there was a mistake in translation. still, it couldn't hurt to try looking into it.

a comment from pikko's interview drew my attention, but somehow i doubt they were being as helpful as they were coy. the quote is
When we first designed it we didn’t design it to never be able to be defeated and we’re convinced that it can be defeated. Last year at the Tokyo Game Show hints were given and whether those were taken as hints or not, well… Some players were able to figure out some things from it but there were other hints that not a lot of people have picked up on and so its become sort of this urban myth that Absolute Virtue cannot be defeated, but it can be defeated.
sounds to me like they're trying to say "we said something with a double meaning back then. now read through hundreds of lines of sundi talking about red ferraris for the cute quip we made about AV giving you some obscenely obscure clue that you'll never find." those who get a kick out of trying to analyze the bible for bizzare number patterns, however, will surely have fun pouncing on this little toy. just don't be surprised if you come up empty handed here too. ^^

Too bad this forum went so far that the Salvage threads are the only thing you can take serious nowadays.

Well, does AV represent all 15 jobs? SMN comes to mind as something it doesn't represent. Even then, you might have to only focus on Ul'yovras or Om'yovras, assuming the theory holds any merit.

    EDIT:

It has EVERY non-ToAU 2h. Even astral flow. IIRC it makes the wynavs use breaths.

Its obvious that locking the jobs/2hrs is the necessary action, however, figuring to do so is the problem. ffxiclopedia has interesting info in regards to the history behind it all.

It most definitely does Astral Flow. I know this because I died from it last time we attempted it haha.

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

Well, they've stated that the Day of the Week effects him (Fire on fireday prevent regen) and Love effects him.

So, obviously, it's something stupid and simple, like you might to create an SC corresponding to the element weak against the day (water SC on fireday). Maybe even you have to burst it, and it prevents 'death to you' for X time.

Of course, even if it's true, I doubt few even want to bother attempting it anymore. Unless SE throws us more bones and tells us...

Constant as far as I know. There is always a rng or nin at the spawn point, cause every time I fight JoL...someone allays manage to aggro all 4.

Hold it using lv1job until it cast a spell , then zerg. AV uses the normal caster, so you got long delay between spell. Or maybe you could zerg with 18 until it uses the manafont+rape, then send a 2nd fresh alliance after they first one wiped.

There is 6 yovra in the first area (2ul, 4om), if those 6 would be related to default job (mnk, war, blm, rdm, whm, and thief), it could make AV doable (no meteor, no bene). The 9 on north side could be linked with the remaining jobs....Meh, doubt it will do shit, but I'm gonna try anyway next time due to the lack of idea.

Did any PLD ever try a resist wind setup against AV? Almost certain there was one, but I can't find the post anyway

Mighty talwar+numinous shield: +30 resist (assuming there is no aegis)
    Mighty bow: +15
    Black ribbon: +12
    Jeweled colar: +10
    Nimble/omniscient earring x2: +22
    Assault breastplate: +15...but wont happens
    Nimbles ring x2: +22
    Ice belt: 20 resist
    Crimson greave: 20 resists
Legs/Back/glove have nothing for pld that give over 3 wind resist I believe
Cape: Resentment cape (-5% magic mmg taken)/lamia mantle (4m.def)
    Coral cuisse: -3%

= ~145 wind resist from gears and some magic attack. I'm not sure what would be the best, but it's probably to get a setup that resist most of the time.

even if you could build an aero resist gear set, and even if you could resist it, anyone else in range is going to get trashed by any aeroga he tosses. moreover, his normal hits are savage, and this doesn't block his meteor death. not to discourage you from trying new things, but i doubt that would do it. btw, don't forget to count merited baraera and full shellra 5.

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

I just fought AV "seriously" twice, but I know those things. Aeroga casting is fast but not instant. If the pld run in one direction, and everyone else in another, it might be possible to avoid many death here. For the normal hit, both (or 3) pld/nin would obviously have to swap between 2 set of gears.

Meteor will always be an issue, but I was talking about a "locked AV" considering it's not killable as long benediction isn't locked...and if bene can be locked, chance is manafont can also be locked.

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

The only problem with my theory (if for some unGODly reason it actually worked) would be taking the time to find out which yovras broke which 2hrs, aand...keeping AV alive an wailing on you in the process <_<

Not to mention keeping a near full alliance in a seperate area just to keep the fucker locked. Miss one respawn, BAMN benediction when he's at 15% hp~

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

Win resist won't help at all. You can be pretty sure AV's INT is retardedly high, so all your wind resist gear won't help.

You can easily see what a difference INT of a mob does, when you using 300 ice resist on Jorm VS 300 Fire resist on Tia. You can easily resist Firaga3 to 50dmg, but I never resisted a single Blizzaga3 from Jorm.

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

What would be the difference in INT between a level 95 DRK and WAR? 25 maybe?

I'd think the near constant single/double ice weather bonus (which I believe with no evidence whatsoever to back it up affects magic accuracy as well. ) would have more to do with it.

Dunno how you can be so sure AV would land his spell every time. >_> Maybe he just have an insane amount of m.atk

    Re: Absolute Virtue Theory

Ya or that. Since pretty much everything about AV's attack powers is totally insane, it will probably just laugh at your wind resist. I think a flat out Magic Defense build is the best. Ruke got the Aeroga damage down to a amount that could easily be handled IIRC.
