Re: New JP Interview re: Expansion

Since it is a time of war, equipment will be much different than our time of peace and I think many players want stronger goods. What kind of impact will this increase in strength have on FFXI?

Ogawa: We will adjust equipment strength at a rate that doesn't completely make previous goods obsolete.
Is it just me or does this ring hollow for a lot of jobs? For many jobs their best gear is still from kings, sky, and dynamis. Having it not just be as good but better then anything that's been added in yrs is just retarded. TBH I'm frustrated lately by the lack of actual good gear being added. There's a lot of jobs that look at the 80% of the new gear added in Nyzul and Einherjar as a freaking joke. Like c'mon the new abjs are almost completely shit. Seriously wtf is SE thinking.

Even sea the torques are ok but they are marginally better then just using a PCC. We've found out that WS gorgets are pretty pathetic overall. How does it make sense that a lvl 33 piece of gear that's been around forever shouldn't have at least noticeably stronger options over lvl 70?

SE needs to get off there asses and stop worrying that the kings campers will cry when their gear isn't the best available any more. Most endgame NMs are fairly easy to kill with the current gear available. Adding slightly more powerful gear is not going to break the game when you already have KCDrks destroying mobs like Bahamut and Shadow Lord.

Oops, lol, hopefully people knew what I meant. Though in all fairness a KC Drk would really destroy Shadow Lord.

Agreed that's why I didn't bring it up as an example depending on the power of the set bonuses it might be some of the best gear available to date. It just mystifies me as to why SE adds gear that no one is going to really pursue like Shadow/Valkyrie gear.

Well, to be fair, when the junk pieces are stuff like Usukane Hands, I'm not one to complain much.

I had meant specifically that SE introduced Junk pieces in the AU expansion (several assault / nyzul pieces, some of the einherjar stuff - although I think some of it has potential if SE ever introduced 3 hour accuracy food with boosts similar to red curry.) not that any of the salvage pieces in particular are junk.

(although several are junk for specific jobs: most of marduk for whitemage comes to mind.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

There are two types of "bad armor":

    1. Armor that is bad simply due to the fact it's crap. Example: Purgatory Collar

    2. Armor that is bad due to the system being screwy and entire portions of stats or styles of tactics are deemed weak because of it. Example: VIT, Def, and the popularity of Multi-Hit WSes over single or two hit WSes.

besides koenig other than the head; what endgame pieces fall into #2 in your opinion?

    WS Gorgets for sure.

Like someone mentioned above, you are much better off using Attack food over Accuracy food. That is sort of a bad flaw in the system. This favors accuracy gear over attack gear making a lot of attack gear instantly ignored.

I said it, and it's more just that accuracy food has been introduced later than much of the original attack food - and wasn't fully implemented. (to be fair, it's only relatively recently that we've started using dragon dishes as general purpose food too.) I'm fairly confident that SE will eventually introduce a 3 hour accuracy food with a bonus similar in magnitude to red curry.

WS gorgets are still quite useful for several jobs, SAM, RNG, DRG (other than say, penta), DRK using a gs. - as is, even for multihits they're still comparable to a PCC, which is much harder to obtain relatively.

I guess what I'm really getting at is, besides Defense gear I don't really see any equipment where a whole class of it is obsoleted. although I do agree there's a large quantity of junk equipment due to it being just.. well. bad gear.

    Ehead, Elegs, Efeet
Koenig well, the best use I can see for the armor is so Pld/Bst can get something absurd like +80 Cha easy.
Neptunal is the only set that is all around sweet for one job or another, but surprise surprise, its WS onry... unless they really thought we would TP in 30+ Slow%
Dryadic, well, Body and Legs are winnar, Head is meh for anything but a Sam.

Compare to Are's, largely a WS set, but with some full time pieces, and generally would make a kick ass HNM type setup.
Usukane, where the throwaway piece is a Scorpion Harness+2 Avenger's earrings, and Gravy, on your hands.
Skadi I don't know as well, but it seems like its got some all around sexy options, and hey, +Movement for Bst! Thats gotta be the Bst fix they meant!

It isn't that everything in RoZ was awesome.

It's that Adaberk, Shura Togi, Zhands/Dalm, are extra awesomesauce on top of beef ham and gravy sandwiches.

I would actually call ehead useful, atleast till you can get nhead. For WAR WS gear I would say nhead > ehead > ohat

Eh, 10 Acc versus 5 Acc/8 Att, I'd rather be able to dump 5 more Acc from other slots, but I always tried to keep a meat build at all times, so having a dumpslot like Ohat was just too nice to pass up.

the stats are all relevant on these, just.. eclipsed by other (mostly more recent) gear. it's not like the E.head randomly has Barspells+6 or anything - or that accuracy or attack is a worthless stat, etc.

I'll give you all the rest; but dalm? maybe I'm a little biased since I'm not a redmage, but: YY robe, Noble's/Cleric's, Sorceror's, are all pretty much better/more relevant. (ok. m.def+5 on body is a pretty unique stat still)

it is pretty awesome for redmage, (until just recently) but it's no where near adaberk or shura togi in terms of usefulness for the jobs that can wear it.

Re: New JP Interview re: Expansion

Well, if it wasn't for the Mdef+5, I'd be totaly turned off, but I've seen uses for that kind of stuff, I do definitely find myself wondering about the "zomgdalmatica" thing though.

Yeah, Acc+Att is nice, but in the proportions they are given, and especially pieces like Efeet, Thick Sollerets+1 almost.

It isn't like all this stuff was added a huge time before some other bits were.

    Ohat, Ehead.
    Haidate, Elegs.

    Hmmm.

Personally I feel that the Dalmatica is great for any job that has a refresh effect on a head piece.
