Honestly, Disgaea 1 was the worst of the 3 gameplay wise. Chances are you're just being blinded by nostalgia goggles on that one. There's a lot of debates on which game has the best story, but that's never really been the point of Disgaea.

Yeah, story and character wise the best game will always be personal opinion. I think for me my favourite character wise had to be Makai Kingdom (Zetta owns), but story wise I liked how Disgaea 1 progressed and game play wise Disgaea 2 was my favourite (haven't gotten 3 yet).
The remake on the PSP of D1 makes the game play a lot better though.
The sprites support a smoothing option which negates any HD issues. The environments and backgrounds DO support HD though, so they look fine.
Any word on when the DLC is coming to the US? I know the game just came out a week ago, but Japan has a whole bunch of DLC from what I have read. Also, MisterBob, how many chapters was the game?
8 chapters + epilogue where you do all the extra maps.
No news on the DLC except that it is confirmed to reach the US "soon". Maybe we'll see something this Thursday.
Have you delved into the extra content? What is there so far (like cameo boss battles)?
I've done some. The early content is generally related to story characters you only get for a short period of time, and you end up fighting the Diez Gentlemen and their "leader" (not going to spoil that one).
I've done a bunch of fights now, I think the next bill is for Flonne/Laharl, but there's no way I'm ready for that one yet.
Apparently the DLC also makes it so you have to win cameo battles to get the new characters as well.
Sweet. I just got this a few days ago and have been playing it for a while now. On chapter 5. Loving it so far, the characters I think are a huge step up. I haven't found a character that has annoyed me so far (Hi, Flonne and Rozaline). Gameplay is great, I love doing fusion skills with funny names (Piercing Piercer). I do wish that the fusion skills had a bit more kick to them though, but oh well. It seems like a great way to level lowbie characters.
Speaking of that, what maps have you found good for leveling on Misterbob? And I can't figure out the requirements for getting high level skills to appear...
There's a couple of decent spots for leveling in the game. Early on, the best spot is probably that level with the geoblock bridge and the zombies. I forget what number it is, but if you haven't done it yet, you will soon.
After that, 7-3 is the best early leveling spot. 3x3 square of mushrooms on +100% XP is obviously delicious. Note that it only has this formation after it has been beaten once.
This level has the added bonus of being capable of having level 99 enemies (4 stronger enemy bills will do it I believe). In case you forgot, 99 enemies give the same experience as 323 enemies due to a quirk in the experience formula. (The short story is that monsters give XP based on how much XP they need to level, and going from 99->100 is a huge gap, since it gives a large stat bonus as well).
The final (and likely best) leveling spot is Mansion of Ordeals 4. It has the same formation as 7-3, but the enemies are level 400.
Learning higher skills is pretty standard. For generics, you need to reincarnate them into the higher tiers. Keep doing that and you'll see more skills show up.
For whatever reason, story characters cant learn the higher level generic weapon abilities naturally in this one. You have to utilize the Class World in order to pull this off.
Take the generic who has the skill you want (they have to have it learned) and the story character who you want to learn the skill. Make sure you have 10x the normal mana cost of the skill. (For example, Big Bang is 4800 mana, so you need 48,000 mana on the story character). Put both characters in the same club (doesn't matter which club it is) and take the story character to the Class World. On the list before you enter, select the second-to-last option (inherit skill based on club) and enter the Mystery Gate on floor 9. Inside there will be an NPC that will let you inherit one skill.
Also, the Class World has a little secret in it... On the 10th floor, destroy all the Geo Blocks to cause a secret gate to appear. 1/7 times the gate will take you to a room that lets you learn a skill from one of the old games. (Skills like Winged Slayer, Dark X Slash, etc)
This can be a bit annoying, but it also leads to super customizable characters, so it's pretty cool.
hadnt checked in rpg so i completely missed the thread, but i've been messing around with it a bunch and this game is definitely a great great game, and my favorite of the series as well.
Thanks for the info, one more question about class world though (I really like the concept). If I boost my classes attribute like movement or counter rate, is that lost when I reincarnate the character or does it stick with them no matter what I do? Or is it based on the inheritence rate?
Class world boosts are permanent
