Dumbeldore was just mentioning the plans the 2 of them had for after they obtained them, he never got his hands on the stone. Marvolo had it during that time i believe.

[quote:2821f]There was another detail that kind of nagged at me concerning the whole 'true owner of wands' thing. Does the wand have no problem going back to a previous owner who was defeated? It certainly appeared so. Take the DA for example, they practiced stunning and disarming each other so many times, are they all 'true owners' of each others wands at that point?
Well like Ollivander had always said "It's the wand that chooses the wizard"; but he also said that the wand would succumb to the new master in time. As for the DA, they never really did proper duels did they? by proper I mean dueling for keeps, they always returned each others wand to the opponent.

And since Draco disarmed Dumbledore and Harry said he was the true owner, does that mean it does not need to be passed along through murder like an ordinary wand as Elder Wand mythology suggested? Really doesn't matter I suppose, but I had those random thoughts in my mind as I finished the book.
Just defeat in duel I think while using any wand. Draco disarmed Dumbeldore while dumbeldore had the elder wand. Harry became master of the wand by simply snatching draco's wand from him.

I still think Harry becoming Defense against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts would have made a satisfying ending career for Harry, seems like an opportunity lost there.
Yea that or an auror. He had wanted to become an auror but he did have a knack for teaching DADA. Also, brings up the question about the curse placed on that teaching position?

Some people are saying that the epilogue is there to possibly start books about the children's excursions, but I'm going to place that in the false hope bin for now. though I do want more books.

    sooo wich queer died?
no need to be like that, if you don't like the books don't post here please. [/quote:2821f]

I think she'll be ok for a while without writing anymore HP stuff. I don't think it's really over though.

yeah because SO many people just stop making money when they earn millions/billions. All it takes is for her to realize 'I can do X amount of good with my money. I could do tons more if I write another say, 5 books.' Most socially responsible billionaires turn to philanthropy. As far as a series goes, I would like it to be done w/the 7 books, but I would understand if she went back into the world 'for the greater good.' Plus people enjoy reading them.

I believe she said she'd consider writing another one of those side-books, (like the history of Quidditch or that monster book) for charity, or that she could possibly write an eighth book for charity, although its not very likely.

hahaha, I took this from another forum so I'm not claiming to take credit for it, but a grizzled detective story would be hilarious within the Harry Potter universe:

"Dammit, Teddy! You are EXACTLY like your old man! You are a loose cannon and a THREAT to the Ministry!"
"I wouldn't worry too much, Shacklebolt." *lights cigar with a flick of the wand* "It's not a full moon...yet."

He knew about the wand because it was said to be unbeatable, nothing more than that.
Agree with your points, but since i'm a nitpicker kind of guy, he did put on the ring. In a flashback via pensieve harry and Dumbledore see him wearing the ring after returning from visiting the gaunts and riddles. I believe he was back in Hogwarts, although I'm not positive.

could be that there was noone he loved so noone he wanted to bring back?
That makes sense, but I didn't think the ring only brought back loved ones; just any dead person that you had a desire to interact with. At any rate, it just doesn't make any sense to me for him to only pursue the wand, even though I can understand him pursuing that particular one first. I'm sure that Voldemort desired to be the master of death as soon as he heard that story and decided to believe it, and I just can't believe that he wouldn't have pursued the other items. Perhaps he just didn't have the time before the story ended. Perhaps he was, but simply had no leads to find the other artifacts at that time.

And since Draco disarmed Dumbledore and Harry said he was the true owner, does that mean it does not need to be passed along through murder like an ordinary wand as Elder Wand mythology suggested? Really doesn't matter I suppose, but I had those random thoughts in my mind as I finished the book.
I think they even touched on that a little bit, saying that going so far as to kill the previous owner wasn't entirely necessary, or that they were not entirely sure, but it should have been possible for the wand to exchange hands without any deaths. I'm starting the book again tonight, it seems like there are a lot of new concepts here with subtle nuances that make a pretty huge difference.

Anyone else dissappointed that Neville didnt defeat Bellatrix?
I'm not particularly disappointed that he didn't defeat her, but I wish he had had a chance to fight her, even if he would have failed. It would have been kind of cool, too, if he'd whipped around and stabbed that bitch in the chest after lopping off the snake's head. I guess that might have been a little overkill for one character, though. Especially considering we're talking about Neville here, I don't know how believable that would have been for me either.

Yeah, thats exactly what i'm talking about, the logistics of the whole thing is fuzzy. Its probably not so clear cut and if lets say someone in the DA who had won a mock duel wanted to take the wand for themselves, I bet they could. But if the intention was practice perhaps not. Whatever the case, the story implies that wandlore is complex enough that anything is possible, given circumstances for 'the want to choose the wizard' so I suppose trying to explain it with rules is moot.
That's kind of what I got from it too. Wandlore is a complex enough branch of magic, and the Elder Wand is certainly a unique enough item, that I don't think anyone can accurately predict what rules do apply to that wand and which don't. I think that there would be a way for it to continue to change hands even after Harry's death, because that's the nature of the object. It seems to me like it's a One Ring type of temptation; the lure of the power that it (supposedly) gives the holder would attract a certain type of person, and I don't see why it shouldn't be able to select another wizard under the correct circumstances. Perhaps a descendent of Harry's or of a previous owners? Perhaps just someone who has prodigious skill and a desire to use it?

But no mention of his job 19 years later was said so he definitely could be an Auror. It pretty heavily implies he does not work/teach at Hogwarts.
I agree with others; I think it would have been a great idea for Harry to have gone on to teach DADA in the future. I wasn't really feeling the whole marry-Ginny-and-have-babies turn of events, but it was a happy enough ending that I'm sure Harry was satisfied with and that many fans wanted to see.

As far as a series goes, I would like it to be done w/the 7 books, but I would understand if she went back into the world 'for the greater good.' Plus people enjoy reading them.
I would like for Harry Potter's story to be finished in these 7 books, but I think it would be interesting to have various companion books about different things. For instance, a book (or more) detailing Dumbledore's life, or Grindelwald's, or even the history of the deathly hallows and how they were passed down over time and what different wizarding events they caused/brought about. It would also be nice to see, perhaps, books on different branches of magic, the history of magic, or perhaps even books about different species like goblins, centaurs, house elves, etc. I dunno. I think there are a lot of possibilities that could be explored without necessarily going back to Harry Potter himself.

Dumbeldore says in King's Cross that Voldemort doesn't know about the deathly hallows for he didnt have time for childrens stories. Also back to the stone, you all know how self reliant he was he would have no need for anyone to come back from the dead. His arrogance and oversight of things he thought to be beneath him all had a hand in his demise.

Koyuki: Hedwig, Mad-eye moody,Rufus Scrimgeour, Ted Tonks, Dirk Cresswell,A goblin that I can't remember his name,Wormtail, Dobby,Crabbe, Fred, Lupin, Nymphadora tonks, Colin Creevey,Snape, Nagini, Bellatrix, and Voldemort die; may have missed someone since I had forgotten to name snape until I was about to hit submit.

J.k. rowling has said that she will only be writing for charity from now on, and she also said that she doesn't want to write about harry or his friends, but if she did it would be a kind of encyclopedia to put information that wouldn't fit in the plot lines. Though she can change her mind at anytime, I hope she does, I wouldn't really be opposed to her churning out books until it get past its prime, because then I wouldn't feel bad about it when it stopped.

    Re: Harry Potter Spoilars!

Just got done with the book today at work. Havnt been on any websites or anything since I got it Saturday. Was a really good book I thought. I was saddened though that both Lupin and Tonks died. Although I can kind of see their child as being like Harry. I did like the turn around with Snape though because that's what I figured all along. I didnt know he was infatuated with Lily though. I liked that Harry and Ginny named their one child Albus Severus though. I felt really bad Fred died and would liked to have known if any other people died, since harry just says "50 people" and names a couple. I even felt bad for how Snape met his fate, and how that part of the plan went wrong.

What was the child at King's Cross when Harry was talking with Dumbledore? Was it the part of Vold's soul that was within Harry?

She's worth 1.5 billion dollars. Most of you guys need to understand past a point in the world of higher fiance, you don't need to actively earn money anymore, she could and most likely has a great deal of it invested in various things that will bring money rolling in for years to come. She still has two more movies, a theme park and the money from the sales of the DVD's and the books rolling in and will to come.

JK is already very invested in philanthorphy if you follow her bio. She knows what she's going and what she's doing, better then the fans do.

Pretty much. You didn't need a grand fight to the death, blowing up the world via Live Free and Die Hard. Voldemort was simply too stupid to get the fact that his most beloved way of killing would no longer work and Harry's public humiliation of Tom Riddle before his beloved Death Eaters and allies and all of all of his most hated foes helped spur him to bring about his own end. The fact that he wasn't master of the Elder Wand also helped to bring this about.

After all that Harry went though, all the people he lost, all the horrors he had to deal with from childhood (Remember, he had a very, very, very shitty upbringing) to the time he became a man, I can't blame him, I'd want to settle down, have kids and lead a somewhat quiet life. There's only so much anyone could take and remember, Harry pretty much taught all he knew about Defense against The Dark Arts to D.A back in book 5. Any of them could have expanded on it and taken the role, remember a lot of what allowed Harry to live is the fact that his greatest foe made it all possable, time and again.

She'll eventually write another book, there is no way that she had the creativity to write 7 books and will be satisfied bottling it up again forever. Now how long until she writes another and if it will have slightly anything to do with Harry Potter's world is a whole different story.

I think it would be unwise for her, if she writes another book, for it not to be somehow related to the harry potter world. Any book she writes from now on will be measured to these books and her only fans are the harry potter group.

To be fair, I don't see how she could have fans outside the Harry Potter group, considering those are the only books she's written. It would serve her better to write a good book not related to Harry Potter than it would to write a shitty one connected to the series, though.

She doesn't have to be pigeonholed. Look at Joss Wheadon, he got famous for Buffy and Angel, then he branched out into a variety of directions (Firefly/Serenity, Astonishing X-Men, Runaways) quite successfully. (Maybe not financially, but critically at least.)

I'm not saying that she is as talented as Joss Wheadon (I've never read one of her books, so no clue), but if she goes in a different direction, she can invalidate comparisons to her old work, and garner new fans while keeping the old.

the difference is she has a lot of people that absolutely hate her for the harry potter books. I don't remember seeing people getting a bulldozer to crush Joss Whedon stuff.
