I'm considering getting a piercing. Anyone care to share there experiences ? Or what to look out for when getting it done? or anything else. One rule though must have one or in it.

My only rule when getting a piercing is to make sure you see them sanitize everything and look out for certifcates saying if they've been approved for sanitation and such.

Pay a little more if it means you get pierced in a clean environment. Eat a couple hours before you get pierced. Metal going through skin is a trauma to the body no matter the size and having a good meal in your stomach helps. I got my lip pierced on the left side and forgot to eat before I went. I ended up passing out and spilling water all over the place.

Clear it with your job before you get it, because having to take it out and put in a retainer every day will not allow it to heal properly. Also, clean it in the morning, mid-day, at night and every time you eat something if it's in your mouth.

Also, eyebrow piercings on guys are kind of gay.

    Re: Piercings

If you get it anywhere except ears, ask for jewelry that is internally threaded. Otherwise you'll be raw-dogging the ridged, screw-on edge through the fresh hole in your flesh. It's somewhat painful. If you've never had anything pierced/tattooed, I recommend making sure in advance that all the supplies they use are disposable and fresh from a sealed package. Also make sure they have an autoclave to sterilize your jewelry before it's worn.

My advice: Don't do an eyebrow/anti-eyebrow piercing. Especially in the case of anti-eyebrows, everyone I've known who has gotten these has had problems ranging from irritation due to ingrown hairs (in the case of eyebrow piercings) or migration/rejection and scarring (in the case of anti-eyebrows). Be aware that some lip piercings will affect your ability to drink through straws and smoke. Whatever you do get, make sure that you either ask for or look up literature on how to properly clean and care for it. Infections can be painful. If you've never worn jewelry before, make sure you don't have some sort of metal allergy. Nickel allergies are relatively common.

Edit: http://bmezine.com is pretty useful when it comes to tips and pointers for first-time piercers, as well as stories/pictures of what you can expect initially, during the healing process, and after healing.

You get used to a lip piercing really quickly. The ability to drink from a straw comes back in a couple weeks. Oh yeah, oral sex is a big no-no for a few weeks after getting a lip piercing. This may work out in your favor with your SO.

    Re: Piercings

Sanitation is #1. To go along with the person that mentioned eatting, you can also check to see if the place you're going to gives OJ and crackers. A lot of the better piercing places I've been to will have that stuff around for you, similar to a blood center if you've ever donated blood.

At one time I had both ears stretched out to 1", my tongue, septum, and nipples done. Septum was the only one of the piercings that actually hurt to get done, and perhaps coincidentally was the last one I got.

Make sure you take the advice that your piercer gives you about how to keep your new piercing clean. I've known people that would shell out $40+ for a piercing only to have it get really infected within a couple weeks. Then they'd have to take it out, let the hole close up, and repay to get pierced. Be digilant about keeping it clean and you'll be all set, even if swishing salt water around a tongue piercing tastes horrible, or rubbing alcohol stings your nose.

Except for the whole part where that's an acceptable use of that word.

    Re: Piercings

I have my lip, septum and tongue pierced and they really don't hurt as much so that you'd have to eat prior but that is a good idea. Like everyone said, sanitation is important as is getting convenient jewelry (like I'd get a horseshoe over having a captive bead ring) if you need to take it out for an interview or something.

    Re: Piercings

I have both my ears pierced... got to Silver bars in each ear.

Originally I was gonna change them over to Flesh tunnels when my body got use to the piercings, but its been 14months now and I still havent bothered getting them... some how the rocker/goth look doesnt suite my job I guess

There are only two piercings that I really like the look of in the ear and thats "Industrial" and the standard Lobe piercings.

    Industrial -

    http://www.bluewallace.com/images/pi...industrial.jpg

The only problem with that piercing is that there is no limit on how long it will take your body to accept it... many of my friends have had them for 3+ years and still complain about them (oh don't get these if you have friends that like to punch you in the ear lololol)

but yea, like these guys have said... always ask questions and dont forget to check the web for local piercing/tatoo shops (check out the feedback).

I had my nipples, tongue, ears, and a frenum piercing before, and I think the most painful was my ears. Sanitary conditions is the first thing you want to look for (not that it hasn't been said before).

http://www.infinitebody.com/aftercare.html this is where I used to go in philly for all my work, and there's some aftercare info on there.

Both my ears are pierced, right now @2g. I was eventually planning to go to 0 or 00, but at this point I'm just considering taking them out.
