    Re: New Mobo Problems

I don't know what RMA stands for but it means return, assuming its from newegg you can get an RMA number and return it within 30 days, it sounds like its POSTing (I've never heard of HD spinning up and no POST), it sounds like its POSTing but you're getting no display for some reason. Check the video card connectors, or try another video card, are you sure you grounded yourself and didn't fry something during the install?

    Re: New Mobo Problems

It sounds like the motherboard is either bad or you fried something installing it which is only a mild possibility, you would have noticed the shock and the "fuck..." feeling, I fried a stick of Buffalo Firestix a few years ago, not a good feeling

Is there anyway you can take some pictures with a digital camera and post them? Stuff like this is pretty hard to troubleshoot unless you can see what's going on..

RMA -> Return Merchandise (Materials) Authorization

first: if you haven't, figure out why the unit comes on immediately when you flip the PSU switch, but the power button on the case doesn't work - it sounds like you crosswired something.

if you verify that you're wired correctly - RMA the board. if you're wired incorrectly, wire it right and try again.

    2) unplug the harddrive and see if you can get it to POST and output to the screen. POST will include an audible *beep* if you had the foresight to wire in the internal speaker; if you didn't wire in the internal speaker, wire it in and see if you get it to POST.

if it POSTs, then your bios works. if it doesn't make any noise at all, your bios is no good, - if you loaded your own bios, try again (good luck with this, you may need to RMA it either way) otherwise RMA.

    3) if it doesn't make a single beep (a successful post) and instead makes multiple beeps or long beeps, look up that error code and find out which thing to fix (ram / cpu / etc.)

    4) once you have it POSTing successfully, figure out why your keyboard input isn't working (this may require getting a ps/2 keyboard if you're using a usb keyboard currently and doing the aforementioned INSERT key display override) and getting into the bios. make sure you're powering USB immediately and not after the OS starts, this will allow you to use a USB keyboard to enter the bios in the future. while here, see if it detects all your devices and check your voltage levels. reconnect the HDD, reboot, reenter the bios, and see if you detect an HDD.

    5) if for some reason you can't get the monitor to work *still* make sure you don't have a fried GPU. verify this by putting the GPU in another machine (probably a friend's.) also make sure you actually connected a power header to it, this can be easy to forget sometimes.

Gotta shift a pin somewhere when the power cord isnt plugged in, wait 10 seconds, put the pin back. Should say in your mobo manual.

    Re: New Mobo Problems

no i reset the cmos (which fixed it) but i didn't think it was fixed cause i forgot to put my ram back in.

Anyway, im officially pissed off. After 2months of saving up for a new mobo and processor my FFXI problem is not fixed. I still have 10-13 fps walking around solo in lufaise meadows and stuff... what the goddamn fuck. 15fps in moghouse -.-

    Re: New Mobo Problems

That definitely isn't normal. If anybody wants to see it, I'll post a picture of me 2boxing on the same computer (750mhz celeron, 256mb ram, radeon9250) and getting about the same fps. Although I did that in Altepa doing the RMT BLM PT thing and really low settings. lulz

Whats your system now? RAM, GPU, CPU, etc. It could be that one or more of your settings in BIOS isn't right.
