    Re: New Mobo Problems

I've googled for about 2hrs now, I can't find anything specific with the motherboard you have that would cause something to mess with fps. Is this with the default FFXI settings? I also googled your GPU, but I can't anything find on it really at all.

Need to try to narrow it down. If you are playing with default settings (800x600 512x512 etc), then it's a big problem. But if not try setting everything to default. See if you still get bad fps. Just try everything you can think of, that way when you go to post a message, it wont end up being a huge thread of a bunch of questions and you saying "yes" or "no". Maybe try switching the 5400 with that other ATI card you have first(looked for your other threads just in case it had useful info), maybe your 5400 is having a problem. If not that, try different RAM (if you have another set), the normal suggestions.

I can't tell you anything about core2duo's and BIOS and stuff, cause my comp is old and junky. But maybe one of the more learned people can come in and tell you theres some switch in there that says "use both cores" possibly. Sorry if that was dumb, I really don't know much about dual core processors...or any processor for that matter.

Not saying your 5400 wont work for FFXI or that your pc2700 RAM wont either, just maybe they are going bad, or overheating or something.

my affinity is set to 2 for POL (means it's using both cores) ive tried the ati vid card countless times i have no idea what's causing it. my only guess is that my ram is too slow for my processor (if that's possible).

2x 512 sticks synchronous SDRAM think they're both at like pc2700

    Re: New Mobo Problems

bios will have almost nothing to do with fps in the game, assuming that you didn't set something wrong (like, say, half-timing your ram).

you're only going to about 55% because FFXIApp doesn't multicore well. (polapp multicores fine) - consider trying to force the ffxiapp executable to be affinity 2 as well - this may help.

surprised you got an allendale and not a conroe, but that shouldn't cause 15fps on FFXIconfig settings (if you hacked the registry keys this is a different story.)

your ram is junk: I'm surprised it fit the board honestly - if you've got the sort of board I think you have. (most core2duo's use DDR2 and not SDRam)
look in your mobo manual for recommended ram type and timings.

(my suspicion is that you'll need DDR2 533, 800, or 1066, but without knowing your particular motherboard and not being able to search specs at work, I can't tell you for sure).

FFXI doesn't support the use of multiple cores, even if you set the processor affinity to both.

It also seems as if you mobo isn't the greatest either, lots of people have been having problems with sound/video.

ffxi doesn't support dual core? um i have about 60 friends who use dual core processors. the problem im having is the same exact problem i was having on a prescott pentium 4 3.0(not dual core). the motherboard i have supports both ddr2 and ddr sdram (i dont have any dd2 ram yet). FFXI Never had this problem about 4months ago when i had a 2001 computer with 2001 specs including a 1.8 ghz pentium 4 processor (not dual core) i then upgraded to a new motherboard because i bought the 3.0 prescott and the problem started. I then upgraded to a new motherboard to git a dualcore processor cause everyone told me my fps would triple in FFXI if i got one, the problem still exist. It HAS to be something with my bios. I know nothing about bios i dont know how to set it up or anything. This is my motherboard. http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6813157107
Yes it may be a piece of crap, but compare it to a 2001 board with no special functions or anything, and it's alot better. So how does a 2001 spec have better fps in game than say a 2006 or 5. It has to be either my bios or my ram. (Same ram ive used in 2001 and it never gave me this problem) Problem again. I get 15fps in mog house, i get 10fps walking round in lufaise meadows whenever i see an enemy such as gigantobugard or something.

I have a feeling that it's probably because you didn't get a conroe; most people mean conroe core when they suggest core2duo.

sigh, any dual core is better than a single core pentium 4 i would assume. you people aren't seeing my point

    Re: New Mobo Problems

here's my point of why i think it's the bios mainly and i would appriciate some bios help. I bought an HP computer long time ago and it did not have this ffxi problem, but the socket for cpu was 478 and the motherboard couldnt handle any good 478 processors. so i upgraded to a new motherboard and a higher cpu for it. this is when ffxi first started giving me troubles. I could be walking in lufaise meadows with nothing in sight and have a nice 28 fps. the second a monster came into view my fps would drop dramatically to the lowers teens. Figured it was my processor hyperthreading ( as people on THIS board mentioned ) so i took the time (2months) to buy a new motherboard and processor (4coredual-vsta mobo and 1.8 allendale dualcore processor) both of which are 10x > my old stuff and ffxi is giving me the same troubles. That only leaves a few things. ram and video card. All of which i used on my old pc that didn't give me any troubles (my fps was low but it wasn't CHOPPY SHIT like it is now) i just dont understand the problem anymore. Was so anxious to get my new processor with the motherboard to see full animations in ffxi with any skipping and stuff

edit: someone wanted to know my mobo specs i believe http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?M ... VSTA&s=775

did you reinstall windows? did you change out your system drivers when you put the old harddrive into the new pc? did you update your ram drivers?

and yes, your processor could be the issue. it's not the bios if it runs fine in some situations but not others - bios issues are 90% of the time load independent unless you screwed around with advanced shit. *if* you did, reset to factory default and try again - lesson learned.

I also don't know if I agree that a 1.8 allendale is 10x better than a single core anyway - this is, quite literally, the lowest end core2 you can buy at this point.

FFXI doesn't utilize both cores. It only uses one. Just because you have two cores doesn't mean both are being used. However, if you're running FFXI and encoding video at the same time, sure the two cores will show a great performance increase as opposed to only one core.

FFXI gains benefit from dual-core because (smart) load balancing will put it by itself on one core, and all your other processes on the other core (this is how my opteron is running it right now.) since you *have* to be running an OS, and most people are also running Antivirus, Instant messenger, itunes/winamp, etc etc. this can result in a pretty significant performance gain, depending on your previous processor.

of course, altwight doubled his cores and almost halved his clock speed (and I'm not sure about instruction cycle count differences between allendale and prescott, but I doubt they're significant)

    Re: New Mobo Problems

okay so back on subject how i make it work i never had this lag issue before i ever swapped mobos / cpu

edit: i will reinstall xp soon and see if it fixes but other than reinstalling OS tell me about the swapping out system drivers

another edit: about the sound, whenever i try to instll the realtek driver from the motherboard disc i get this error: setup has detected the version of the installed is lower than what is necessary to apply this setup. At minimum you must have "Service Pack 1" installed on "Windows XP"

*ANY* time you swap a motherboard and processor you *SHOULD* reinstall Windows. Different chipsets, different settings, etc.

Check out Computers for Dummies... it might help you more in this situation.

You can only switch main hardware components up to 7 times or so. By reformatting/reinstalling windows, you in a sense reset the counter by overwriting the file that keeps track of all the hardware changes.

so will that maybe fix my ffxi problem?

edit: by reinstalling windows, does that mean i have to reformat my computer? (i dont have a floppy drive)
