how'd you do it in the first place? games don't generally default to 'force both cores thx' last I checked.

2x 512 sticks synchronous SDRAM think they're both at like pc2700

    Re: New Mobo Problems

From reading this thread, I would think that it's a combination of your old GPU and your RAM.

There are a few things you can check in your bios to see if your RAM might be causing problems. Download CPU-Z and run that to see what your latency's are at, i'm not sure what your ram is rated at but it should be something like 4-4-4-12 or 5-5-5-18 or some combination of numbers like that. Also, see what your multiplier is at, as your ram could just be running slower than it's supposed to. Sometimes when you update/flash your bios your mobo can change the multiplier and cause your parts to run slower.

The reason why your old CPU ran at 100% all the time and the new one runs at slower %'s is cause of the speedcontrol mechanism in the BIOS. You would want to disable that to run at your max ghz all the time. To save power the MOBO essentially overclocks your CPU and underclocks in when not needed to save on power. This isn't going to fix your problem, but it's why that is different.

Your GPU is kinda bad, I know people say that ffxi is mostly run off the processor, but your GPU does play some part. You might wanna try to get your hands on a newer series and see if that fixes anything.

What kind of PSU do you have? Check to see what voltages are getting sent to your RAM, GPU, CPU and make sure everything is where it should be, consult the manual's to see.

I don't see any reason why you should have to return anything as obviously everything works, it's just a matter of seeing what was messed up. My guess is when you reset the CMOS something got changed in regards to the multiplier or RAM latencies.

Still having trouble, go here: http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/forums and post your problem. I've been to a lot of forums and that's one of the best at getting problems solved. A lot of people a lot more knowledgeable than anyone here.

I'm at work right now and can't download AIM to this PC, but I can answer a question if you post it here.

What's not working right, it should be an easy download > install > run

    Re: New Mobo Problems

the latency's look good, the lower they are the better.

Your frequency is pretty slow though as i think you're running 333mhz ram right? pc2700?

'if' you were to get newer faster RAM what would your budget be? You can get some good pc5300 at 533mhz 1gig for like 50-70 bucks depending on brand etc...

The multiplier is what determines the CPU speed. If you're supposed to run at 2.4ghz like the e6600 core 2 duo conroe it runs at like 266mhz but it has a x9 multiplier. 266 x 9 = 2394 which is the 2.394ghz that the processor runs at. So if you're multiplier got screwed up and was lower you might not be running at the right processor speed. However, x9 is what it's supposed to be at I believe for your processor.

Your PSU is probably not the problem, 400w is fairly standard for the parts you're running.

    What is your video card?

    Re: New Mobo Problems

    geforce fx 5500 PCI

    btw my memory is pc2700 pc3200 166MHz 200MHz

my budget is around 100$ for both video cards and ram. I got paid today so it's been hard deciding if i should git the 2gb (1gb x2 stick) of corsair pc5300 ddr2 667 ram or a better video card (has to be 512MB) been looking at a ATI Radeon x1650 Pro Saphire version for about 80 bucks ( PCI-E )

edit: the reviews on my motherboard say the PCI-E slot on my board is 4x and not 16x... would that make an AGP 8X better than a PCI-E card? Since all the reviews say the PCI-E slot on my board is only 4X

    Re: New Mobo Problems

There's no need to spend the money on 667 RAM unless you want to buy another MOBO, yours is only rated for 533mhz ram, unless you wanna overclock or something.

Look at this RAM. Good company's for RAM are corsair, geil, kingston, crucial. Just find somethign in your price range that's compatible with your MOBO. If you buy something that's faster than what your chipset is rated for then it'll run slower unless you also plan to increase the FSB of the MOBO.

That'd be a good video card for your budget, anything lower than the x1600 series isn't really built for gaming.

    Re: New Mobo Problems

This is a picture of the MOBO you said you had, it's got 1 PCIe x16 slot on it, so make sure to get the PCIe card and not the AGP

    Re: New Mobo Problems

yea i know my board has a 'pci-e x16' but all the reviews say it clocks at 4x or something. Anyway. Is that all? You're suggesting i buy ram and a new video card and that should fix the problem?

edit: also the motherboard supports dd2 667 ram. ^_^

    Re: New Mobo Problems

I'm not gauranteeing that'll solve your problem, but those parts are kinda old.

did you go to that website i posted? They know 100x more than I do and could probably help you out. I'd check all available resources before spending more money.

If you are going to buy new parts though, that x1650 vid card and the ram i posted would be good, since your board does support 667 you could just upgrade to this instead of the other one i posted: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820134046

Again though, go to that forum and post your problem there, they respond quickly and are very good at troubleshooting. It's also a good place just to read through threads to learn about fixing stuff on your own too, you might see someone else had the same problem and how they fixed it.

Can also see where I posted the pictures to the PC beast that I built. This is the thread with my PC in it, can go out to the main forum from There. http://www.buildyourown.org.uk/forums/t ... C_ID=25282

i dont know where i would post something about FFXi causing problems with my system on that forum. there's not a gaming discussion.

    Re: New Mobo Problems

Just post it in the motherboard or video card section. People there are gamers too, the problem isn't ffxi anyway it's your hardware. Just describe what the problem is and link to them the parts you have so they know what you're working with.
