Darters are actually cleared almost every interval on our server - the wipe was fast enough that they hadn't repopped iirc, several LSs hadn't escaped yet.

I happen to know 3/4 my linkshell for 3-5 years. Oh and we dont claim shit >.< so that kinda gives me the impression we have horrible closet botters, or we actually don't bot.

Unlike other ls's we dont tell people to keep it out of linkshell chat and talk about it on vent.

I honestly feel we have other linkshells on the server in the same boat. If your leadership is against it, and cares, you can fight it. Its the ones that don't care and encourage it that screw everyone else.

In a perfect world everyone would be like you. Unfortunately we're not, and if you care about claiming something, you do one of the two. My point was that removing files and spamming is about as legit as it gets, it doesn't make sense to call people out for doing it these days.

If you could remove darters on your PS2, I'm sure you would.

It's two variations on the same thing anyway, and both probably have an equally shitastic chance of actually claiming something. Is selecting a subtarget and tabbing cheating too because you're trying to gain an advantage before the mob pops? How about lowering your settings so you can see the mob quicker, cheating too? Where is the line drawn, they're all ways to try to have a chance against people who bot.

no i would not delete darters if i could on ps2 cause i dont want to fuck with it, even if i knew how, i would not.
in my eyes, the line is drawn where you are removing their files that are supposed to be there, any LS worth their weight in skill could easily kill darters so that none are repopping during window. here just to give you an idea

Anywho, ive claimed on PS2 before, as blm with stun, more than once actually(with darters up), thats how most people in my old LS claimed, we had skill(assholes but they were good claimers/killers).
I know of at least 2 people in my old LS that botted, i didnt care because apparently their bots sucked, they never claimed.

There is not a setting in the game that says 'delete darters so you dont target them'

also SE reccomends you lower your settings in laggy areas such as dynamis to make things go smoother, so thats not cheating.

You can say "I claimed Fafnir once in July 2005 with stun, it took skill! Therefore you shouldn't need to delete darters" until you turn blue, it still doesn't change the fact that it isn't easier to claim doing that than it is to spin+spam or vice-versa. They're both vastly inferior to people who bot and spread out their delays to virtually guarantee them the claim anyway. Does me claiming nq turtle vs 20 JPs before the claim delay without removing files or botting somehow erase the fact that I had lost claim to them 100 times previously? You say it "took skill" to claim Fafnir via stun... isn't it all luck anyway? Isn't that how it should be? The biggest threat to that is people botting, and there are a million and one reasons why. Like I said in my first post, complaining that removing files is cheating is a 2004 argument, it doesn't hold water anymore and there's a reason "there are darters in aery?" is a running joke around here.

yes but as long as theres a file in its place that contains anything it will see it and won't crash, so you can open up the dat in notepad, type asjnfhuawe in it and it would still remove darters

Ryko is very correct that you can never be totally sure what others in your LS are doing but I still think you can make an educated guess based on the evidence.

Although I can't speak for this guy, my LS's two fafhogg claims in two years tells me that we don't bot. I'll admit we never camped as religiously as others but we still showed up quite a bit for a time, not much if at all recently for that reason... Very few LSs can say they killed Nidhogg before Fafnir though lmao!

What it comes down to is this, there are three ways to claim a king:
1) Uncontested
2) Cheat
3) Fluke

Option 1) is extremely unlikely on the majority of servers and I don't think many people are willing to invest their time and effort in 3) for very long so its no wonder that so many hardcore HNMLSs choose option 2).

Basically what it comes down to is the fact that if you're group is claiming consisntely then you should be able to guess why.
Ask yourself: Was my Adaberk or Ridill from a botted claim? Probably. If so, do you REALLY care? Probably not.

somehow i feel SE does know, but i assume its one of those things you know about but what can you do.
i dont claim to be a programmer, but are they supposed to check all your files every time you log in? every time i do a file check it takes over an hour, granted only the darter file would need to be checked, but theres always a way around it.

SE is too busy developing winners such as brenner and expeditionary force type things to worry about how faf is claimed
