Well, past Metal Gears have all had some short of limitation on where you can go, according to your game progress i cant see this one being the exception; maybe there wil be bigger (than expected) zones though.

I like how half-way thru the video, when Snake is moving thru the building, Kojima says "Ah my back is killin me" and ends the demo with Snake touching his back.

Frecken' soldiers are deaf. I thought at least they'd hear him moving around in the barrel, dropping the barrel to the ground, or rolling around in the barrel towards them. I guess all the explosions reduced their hearing.

You would think in that enviroment, after countless explosions and gunshots, the slight sound of a barrel is probably the least of your worries (unless said barrel contains a snake).

The only sound the barrel made that would've maybe raised attention was when he tipped it over to roll into them, and by then it was too late for them anyway.

But whats up with using the menu for everything? Thats a reall turnoff, I hope you can use buttons instead.
Maybe I wasn't paying attention but the only time I saw him use the menu was to remove the camo completely and go back to the original sneaking suit? By pressing the triangle button he was able to change his camo to whatever he was against, and all of the weapons are accessible through the normal R2/L2 or w/e pop-up menu.
Well, I guess I meant that when he was changing weapons, the gameplay stopped, so I assumed he was pressing start, and then going about picking a weapons, while the gameplay stopped.

I guess I expected weapon changing to be more fluid and on the fly, instead of the gameplay pausing while you select the weapon you want. Was it like this in the past games?

It's like any MGS game... the weapons button is a single button you hold and then scroll through it to choose the weapon of your choice, and when you find said weapon you just have to stop holding the button and he equips it... definitely not a menu.

The only time he actually opened the menu is like Xavier said, to switch between his suits, which is understandable and MGS3 was the same way.

And Seph, how in the world could you hate MGS3? (I hated 2 personally compared to 3 because you barely get to play Snake and only played 1 on the GC remake, cus the graphics in the PSX version turned me off after playing 2 first..)

    Re: MGS4 gameplay

I think the way you switch weapons and ammo is ideal for action games, it doesn't break up high octane action parts at all (keep all the adrenaline) and it makes the sneaking parts more intense (keeps all the suspense).

The thing that does break the gameplay is when you go into the main menu to change camo (and in MGS3, to fix wounds, which did break the gameplay a lot).

If you've never played a MGS game then I wouldn't expect you to know how well the system works.

Played MG and MGS, didnt really like them, so I stopped caring about the game in general. If I ever get a PS3, I might try this one out.

    Re: MGS4 gameplay

MGS always taken a lot of liberties with enemy sound, sight and movement detection to make it easier for the player. Just as a avid Battlefield mod player, I couldn't help but put myself in the soldier's shoes and imaging at least five instances where Snake should have earned a grenade around the corner when he got away undetected.

Diving after having been in a soldier's peripheral at the start: Dead. The beeping of his camo system: Dead. Dropping down from a ledge behind that one soldier with the stun knife: Maybe. Trying out the stun knife: Dead. The barrel rolling: Darwin Award for those soldiers. Going down the street with the soldiers coming around the corner before the CS: Deaddd.

Darwin for the two other soldiers who didn't suspect a thing when their buddy got shot by a obvious sniper rifle. Darwin for the rest of them for not suspecting a thing with bodies lying around of their comrades. "Doop doopity dooppp...! Ooh, Thomas from Third Squad unconscious! That's interesting...oh well!"

    Re: MGS4 gameplay

MGS isn't exactly a stealth simulator. Taking liberties with enemy sound and sight is crucial to having fun gameplay. The point is that Snake is such an expert that he can do stuff like that without arousing suspicion. Suspension of disbelief and all that.

You really think half the shit that goes in the MGS universe even remotely passes for plausible? A man that controls bees, a guy who can walk and run on water and up vertical pillars, a fucking robotic ninja and a stand alone weapon capable of solo launching nuclear weapons?

What part of that seems real to you? With all that crazy shit do you think that all your little inane whining even matters?

    SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF.

Learn it, live it, love it. Maybe you'll enjoy stuff more often.

    Re: MGS4 gameplay

I hit a nerve, I think. Just commenting on really how unstealthy that was for a stealth game. Suspect as it was stated before, it was heavily scripted, if not running on a very easy difficulty that allows for you to get away with what he did. Hoping when it does come out, it has modes of difficulty that you can choose that affects how realistic the AI is to actually detecting you. Might play it once on a moderate or easy mode just to get through it, then go back on the hardest for the challenge or for a clear time. As is, it's on it's 4th installment, so expecting a bit better AI then some of the laughable things you could manipulate the previous 3 to do.

No, you didn't. It just sad to see someone critisize something like this over trivial matters.

You think it's cool to say things like, "oh, in real life I would've heard snake and threw a grenade over there lolol" Really? Is that so?

This is a FICTIONAL story, in a FICTIONAL setting based on real life. This is not actual war, this is not actual life and battle. It's a game. I've said before, it's a game where crazy things happen. Snake is supposedly a stealth expert, who can run behind an opponent without alerting them to his presense, a soldier without equal who is highly trained and experienced. In this setting I can believe that, and if Snake wants to kill people by rolling around in a barrel then I'll be damned if I can try find fault in that.

You said something funny before as well, "trying out a stun knife: dead". When he can carry a tranquilizer gun, P90, grenade launcher, AK47 and rocket launcher all at the same time. Him using a stun knife is a life threatening deal, ignoring that Snake has been shot so many times he should've been dead 100 times over. It's a game, treat it as one.

Hasn't MGS always had multiple difficulty levels? Judging by the soldiers line of sight, it looks like he was playing in an easy mode. And Seph, for the love of god play MGS3.

Borrow my little brother's PS3 when this comes out(He's 26, don't give me that look...). Only game so far that makes me regret not getting a PS3. Looks good. Hopefully has a harder setting so it isn't such a pushover as that demo. Those unmanned units have got my interest up into what kind of biocyber tech spawns them. Things even bleed what looks like human blood. And why in the world the same army that can build them fields such low-tech looking urban troops. Look like cannon fodder. Clone army ftw? Science fiction always gets my interest up, even if they field ideas like 'war economy' that makes me scratch my head trying to figure out WTF that means, or what it has to do with anything about the plot or setting.

Stun knife! Oxymoron! Heh, thanks for repeating that so I could catch it. Combat knife for stunning!

QFT. The demo was on very easy or easy, because if your on normal difficulty to extreme difficulty soldiers AI is WAY better, if you think MGS's gaurds AI is bad play Extreme or European Extreme
also another thing to point out it was on a easy difficulty, when snake was using the tranq. gun it only took 1 shot each to immediately take out both PMCs while aiming at the body, on any other difficulty youll need to aim for the head to 1 shot them.

Yeah, I noticed that too, but I'm sure even on easy you need a head shot (possible a chest shot /heart too) to knock them out instantly, anything in the legs or hands takes a few seconds for them to get knocked out.

And one of my other favourite things about MGS is the numourous ways you can screw around with the guards.

Hard to top MGS1's running around the crate in the snow with the guard tracking your footprints around and around and around and around and around and around...

Yeah it does seem like the demo was a bit too easy, but I guess it was the best way for them to show off all the stuff they wanted to show off, like the barrel rolling.

Overall the game is very stealthy... play MGS3 on the hardest difficulty and you'll see. Oh and if you own a PS2 and never played that game, for the love of god go buy it right now.

So you hate games you've never played. A TRUE GAMER!!!!

Though, it's pretty funny, this reminds me of the times Xbawx360 players bash FFXI for being turn-based.

    OH LAWD.

Now if you said, "as a real-life war veteran" this would make sense. Otherwise, just shut up haha.

VR FIELD TRAINING, IT'S JUST AS GOOD AS BATTLEFIELD EXPERIENCE.

And I think 2 was better than 1, as 3 was better than 2, and 4 is probably going to be better than 3. People need to get over "YU ONLY PLAY SNAKE FOR 30 MINUTES!!".
