Ulthalam, Toreador, or Rajas? Which one sits out?
I play on WAR/SAM, WAR/NIN, and MNK. I'm tilting towards Ulthalam and Rajas for WAR/SAM (since need Rajas for 6-hit build), and Toreador/Rajas for WAR/NIN and MNK. Although the benefits of +5 store TP seems kinda unnoticeable on 1-handed weapons... at least I wasn't really TPing any faster on my MNK/NIN by eye.
Basically I guess I can simplify it further. Ulthalam or Rajas as a second ring when 1-handed weapon?
unless 5tp saves you a hit(you'd need to calculate) then ulthalum for TP and rajas for ws. if 5tp saves you swings, then rajas for both.Originally Posted by Sanjiyan
Quick tests show that I get to 100TP in 10 rounds (20 attacks) with Rajas, no kicks or DA needed.Originally Posted by Amele
Without Rajas, I get it in 11 rounds (22 attacks), but in 10 rounds if I kick or DA once. Makes sense since Martial Arts VI + destroyers = 348 dly, which is below the 5.0 TP per hit 180 dly (x2 = 360 dly), so I get less than 5 TP a hit unless boosted with Rajas.
Considering my kick rate is 15%, and DA is 5%, I still can't decide. >.<
I suppose I can always wear Rajas and hope I get 2 extra attacks, in which case I get 100 in 9 rounds. But yeah it's a lot less defined than a 2-hander 6-hit build, since 1-hander attacks more times, are often shorter per round, and more variables from misses (partial rounds) kicks, joytoy, and double attack.
This is academic for me, since I own neither piece but...
Byrnie+1 or Askar body for Sam TP?
I lean towards Askar due to the Store TP, which allows you(if you WS in it, and I think I would) to drop JSE from your tp altogether, freeing those slots for more haste or attack.
You should've dropped JSE body as soon as you got a Haub.Originally Posted by Deftscythe
I think he was just asking if: If he TPs and WSs in askar body, can he drop Hachiman feet or hands.
You could, would have to compare the different stuff you have available to see what your best off with
Full store TP merits, Rajas, brutal earring, and you can WS and TP in askar without having to use hachiman.
Rajas: 5
Brutal :1
Merits:10
Askar: 5
SAM 75 Trait: 25
46 Store TP for 6 hit
Ok since I got these today, I'm trying to decide which is better for THF
Skadi's Chausses :
attack + 5 accuracy + 4 ranged accuracy + 4 ranged attack +5 store TP + 7 Haste +2%
Barbarossa's Zerehs :
STR+4 (attack +2) VIT+4 Haste +3%
So... basically comparing (removing similarities & stuff that isn't mattering) :
Skadi : 4 accuracy 3 attack 7 Store TP
vs.
Barb. : 4 Str 1% Haste
Which wins? Obviously I'm going to test them myself but I'm curious as to other people's opinions.
I would think the storetp alone would make the skadi win.
At the very least if you didnt need the extra storetp it free's up space for a rajas ring to be replaced with a sniper+1 at the cost of 1% haste.
1% haste vs a difference of +12 acc(because of the rajas you can drop during the tp phase)
I wasn't asking that. I know that it's the case that you don't need any JSE if you TP/WS in Askar. I was asking which people think would be better to TP in, Askar or Byrnie+1, then stating my opinion that Askar is better and stating the reasons for that opinion. As I said, this is academic for me, I'm just curious what others think.Originally Posted by Krystl
arguably, you could use usukane sune-ate too instead of whatever other store TP gear (even dropping brutal from TP if you're using a soboro). at which point you'd need to compare askar body vs. byrnie+1 (vs. haub+1?!) on their actual combat stats and not just store TP.Originally Posted by Deftscythe
at which point it becomes a lot closer (I'd use askar with non-soboro probably.)
Don't forget the biggest variable in any "x-hit setup" for mnk: tp return from Asurans. I'd say go with the Ulthalam instead of Rajas.Originally Posted by Sanjiyan

Since the 2hander patch I wondered: Alky's or AF+1 Kote for SAM WS? It might be dead obvious considering the difference is 13 acc, but I thought I'd throw it out here before deciding to keep or sell my Alky's and work on getting the Kote+1.

Alky for sata, kote+1 for unbuffed/ta WS?
If acc isn't an issue, should a nin tp in af body for the speed an extra chances to double attack, or should I be tping in hauby regardless of acc?

For Samurai TP Build in merit setups:
Haste +15% Gear (W.Turban, Dusk Gloves, Swift Belt, Fuma Boots)
vs.
Store TP +23 (Hachiman Hands, Hachiman Legs, Hachiman Feet, Chiv Chain, Brutal Ear, Rajas Ring)
I haven't merited Store TP yet (just got Overwhelm 3/3 today), though I intend to next (when I do the following won't be as applicable). But for the moment, for TP build in say something like XP situation? Don't have B.Haidate atm. Question to those who've been at it longer than I, which will/may amount to better returns for dmg output given my current options? I play on PS2, so no means of parsing it. I realize not all of the slots change, so its not exactly 15% Haste vs. +23 Store TP as much as the haste vs. the 6-hit build.
Current related gear options
Weapon/Grip: Hagun and Pole Strap/Mythril Grip+1
Head: Wyvern Helm/W.Turban/O.Hat
Body: Kirin's Osode/Haubergeon
Hands: Dusk Gloves/Hachiman Hands/O.Kote
Neck: Peacock Charm/Chiv Chain
Back: Cerberus Mantle
Belt: Warwolf/Swift Belt/Potent
Rings: Rajas/Sniper/Flame
Earring: Brutal/Fenrir/Fowling/Diablos/Ethereal
Legs: Hachiman Legs/Shinimusha Haidate
Feet: Hachiman Feet/Amir Boots/Rutter Sabs/Fuma Feet
Thanks for any advice in advance![]()
So basically its 7 hasted hits to WS vs. 6 non-hasted hits to WS.
I think the best way to measure this is by looking at total time it takes to WS. I'm not going to figure Hasso, Haste, or March into this equation because I want to see how the gear set works standing on its own. Also not gonna count the WS hit in the equation, so Store TP setup takes 5 hits and Haste setup takes 6.
Store TP Setup = 450 Delay x 5 hits = 2250 Delay = 37.5 Seconds.
Haste TP Setup = 382.5 Delay x 6 hits = 2295 Delay = 38.25 Seconds.
This is assuming no misses, but the argument is pretty much the same even if you miss a swing here and there. The Hasted gear set only takes slightly longer to get to 100 TP, but you'll be doing more damage over time in the process through melee damage. So the haste set is a clear winner.
That makes sense. I've "felt" like I was doing more with haste-set (feels good with less delay between attacks)... but couldn't be sure if it wasn't just placebo. Also occurred to me, that extra attack, is one more chance to Double Attack or Zanshin (if i miss) in that time-frame.
Thanks Theo, that helps. :D
