Working on a defensive gear setup for SAM, this is essentially what I have at the moment. This is assuming capped Parrying, which is my current in-game task I've set for myself.

I'm not really sure what would be the best for a second ring (Wivre +1 vs. Breeze Ring vs. Screw it, keep the Rajas vs. ?).

Also, I assume Seiryu's Kote (AGI+15) would prevail over Amir Kolluks (Parrying +5).

Tomoe would add another Parrying +10, but that's not exactly a macro swap for general use.

    Anything I'm overlooking?

MC mitts are 10 evasion skill

I'd assume you mean bracelets, which are 7 enfeebling not 10.

Bibikiki Seashell and personally I'd use askar feet unless you're going for evasion set-up.

Gavial legs and feet +1 maybe?

Askar feet are -2% damage taken, HQ gavial legs are 4(3 NQ) and feet are -3% HQ(-2%NQ).

Another 7% damage reduction would be nice, but I am a bit doubtful that I'll ever come across those pieces; the Auction House history for them on Quetzalcoatl is very sparse.

As for the Askar Gambieras, I guess it'd be +5 Evasion and Parrying skills vs. 2% damage reduction... Assuming capped Parrying and Evasion, I think I may get more use from the Emissary Boots. If this is a poor assumption, feel free to let me know.

would depend on rest of gear, but generally conte legs would be better investment aside for corazza for regen reasons.

spartan just way too slow with the little haste you got at this lvl.
and vs that, you got weapon with good damage, decent delay, and some attack.
get hooks, swap for waghs when you can wear those.

    IDLE v MP

I've noticed that changing from cures/spells gear to IDLE gear cuts my MP by a lot. In addition, since I play on PS3, the more items I tack on, the more macros I need to accommodate the excess lines. Having said that, here's what I'm looking at in comparison:

IDLE: Orochi Nodawa and Cheviot Cape
    Other Spells: Moraganas and Aslan

That alone creates a 60MP difference.

Question: Should I forgo one or both of these IDLE Pieces for one of the MP/MND pieces? Note that I have ~480 MP on SCH without MP gear.

Edit: Other idle pieces are Earth Staff/Vermy/Goliard Legs, but those don't present a problem.

Orochi Nodawa always seemed to me like an overrated/misused piece by a lot of mages. It definitely has it's place (long slow solo where you're dot kiting/etc and are worried more with efficiency), but I think having it in a default idle set is not necessarily correct. I'd put Orochi in a separate macro, that you are manually equipping if your hp isn't full, and your mp isn't full (I'd say spellcast that, but ya...). Cheviot on the other hand can save your life at unpredictable times, and is much more worthwhile in a general idle set.

I'd tend to disagree, based on the fact my HP changes whenever I macro gear and having it refill on it's own is nice if I idle for an extended period of time. You never know when being capped off will be the difference between living and dying.

You can still equip it whenever you want, I just dislike it always going in an idle set...furthermore, since the addition of Composure, for red mages at least, it's not very hard to toss a Regen right after your refresh, and will quite possibly leave you with more mp in the longrun, if you are switching to idle gear and losing MP from it. (I realize the original question was about scholar)

I just have two idle macros, and switch between them depending on whether I'll lose MP from the idle set or not.

/healer of course, my /nin solo idle set is much different.

I'm not sure what else you would idle in, since choker mp goes away when you use any skill torque <_<

I could see the case for duelist's chapeau + goliard over ixion cloak, though it's a similar tradeoff, simply for the fact you keep the mp for most casts(20 on AF1 hat, 14 on duelists, 20 on goliard).. (mp+34 on af1 body, 42 on goliard).

Eh, it doesn't matter where you keep the mp as long as you equip +mp before taking off other +mp items. Really depends on the rest of your idle set. If you're potentially already dropping 80mp, equipping 40mp in a slot before unequipping the rest isn't the least bit bad...

I'm not saying Orochi is awful, but I've definitely seen quite a few idle sets with it that may be better without it (or maybe they should just equip MP elsewhere).

I'm currently trying to work on my WARs KJ setup.

HNM items and salvage are out of the question completely but, where do you think I improve upon that will... I guess make a difference (no rajas do to PLD love).

It's sort of hard to work around this though, as some spells will have higher mp pieces in earlier slots and others will have them later. You would need to give up spellcast to work around, and at least imo, you're losing more there than you lose by macroing and losing a bit of mp. If nothing else, idle in hierarch wlegs zenith feet, since those get switched last.
