Inherited a 75 RNG that quit back in 04...All of his main 5 body slots and accessories were liquidated by our other friend who has held the account the last 2 years, though he still has E.Bow/Hellfire+1/O.Bow. I'm trying to get him at least usable for now, working on CFG's and S.Kote, but could use some help on a few slots in terms of Wal-Mart gear.
Weapon: Like I said I have E.Bow/Hellfire+1/O.Bow...is E.Bow the best out of these for straightfoward shooting? Also have a Fire Staff/Axe grip and a Francisca/Hawker's +1...is there a better offhand I could pick up?
Head: No O.Hat, currently using War Beret for TP and Wyvern Helm for WS. Is that passable?
Body: Using AF for TP and Blue Cotehardie for WS atm, working on Archer's Jupon, eventually will have an Osode.
Neck: It doesn't have Sea access for Light Gorget, should I just fulltime PCC?
Earrings: Currently using Drone x2, not sure what is out there that is noticeably better.
Legs: Will work towards Paluwhan, but atm it seems like there is crap out there other than War Brais and Jaridah legs...is that pretty much it?
Feet: I have War Boots I think, pretty much between that and AF, I don't really see alot else out there that's buyable.
Any suggestions on other relatively easy to obtain/functional crap I could get? I will probably only be using this until I can manage to level RNG on my main character where I'm sitting on Denali and shit.
I'm still of the mind that Ares isn't better than any other piece right out of the box. In the hands of most Paladins, Adaman is doing more than Ares will.Originally Posted by Eanae

ares used to it's potential is pretty much exactly where Eanae put it; based on my experience as a whm working with paladins who have used pretty much every piece but hydra and Wyrmal on that list (which are where they are for obvious reasons that don't require live experience to understand)
the only statement I might add if we're doing caveats is that paladins drawn to adaman don't seem to be very good on my server; but that's anecdotal and not related to the quality of the gear independent of the player.
Having a hard time finding out this answer since I don't have a parser anymore. (Too risky to bother losing my account with downloading things lately).
Rampage WS leg slot:
Hecatomb Subligar , Byakko's Haidate , Warrior Cuisses
Rampage setup while aggressor/berzerk down:
*Ecphoria, Sniper's Ring, Warwolf (2x Sniper's Ring perhaps?)
*Ecphoria, Flame Ring, Potent Belt (Sniper's instead of Ecphoria?)
unless you need the +1 stp from ecphoria, use a sniper's instead of ecphoria.Originally Posted by Naver
2x snipers, potent belt, would be my recommendation. maximizing your hits is going to do alot more than the 7str you'd be missing.
Don't forget there's the new Insect Ring if you do ZNM and want to save a bit of cash on Sniper's, assuming you don't already have them/need them for lower level shit.Originally Posted by Amele
Yeah I've had dual-signed Sniper's Ring for a long time now. I've noticed the special macro for extra accuracy when aggressor/berserk is down helps a lot, but I am still unsure of which leg slot to equip. They all seem to have their own advantages. Lately though for weapon skills I've been sticking with Hecatomb Subligar, seemingly giving me constant returns on damage averaging around 800-900.
I'm constantly at little to no mp with refresh and one ballad, so the extra tick from Ares's would be much loved. If your paladin's are roaming around mid to high mp, they're doing it wrong and not using their Ares's to it's full potential.Originally Posted by Tsuko_Asura
Depends on what you are doing and what you are willing to do to get additional gear. Assuming you're like me with my friend's 75 PLD character that I use as a farming mule / ToD gatherer / tankiftheresnooneelse (read: will not actively work to upgrade it doing things like dynamis):Weapon: Like I said I have E.Bow/Hellfire+1/O.Bow...is E.Bow the best out of these for straightfoward shooting? Head: Fine, could probably just pull off Wyvern Helm but it depends
Body: Just use AF body for TP and WS until Osode for anything above EM
Neck: PCC fine
Legs: Pahluwan, Scout's Braccae (+1), and Hachiryu Haidate are the best options; however, realistically Pahluwan is the best option for you
Feet: Camp some Trotters? Don't think Simurgh is too tough these days; otherwise the AH options are terrible compared to things like S. Jambeaux and Scout's Socks
Yeah, it's basically just a Wide Scan mule that I can pop a few WS off during gods/bosses, I don't care to pimp it out b/c my main already has a ton of RNG gear from COR, but I'd like it to at least be functional until I can spare the time to level RNG on my main. I bring it to Dynamis for clearance so far, if something is like 100% freelot that noone wants I could collect it, but not going to take it over someone who wants it.Originally Posted by Wulfgang
Really the bitch to me is the hands slot, prior to CFG/Kote there's like literally nothing in the hands slot that's AH-able outside of Deadeye Gloves.
That was exactly my point.Originally Posted by Eanae

Most Paladins don't know how to use their MP, and thus, Ares is generally a waste of a slot. When used to its full potential, in my opinion, it rivals Hydra.
paladins who don't know how to use their mp are doing the -paladin job- wrong and aren't relevant to the discussion of what gear rates where; imo.
jus' sayin'
Generally, I'd agree, but I've also gotten into three separate debates(in three separate threads, mind you) about why Samurai shouldn't use Askar Korazin. Any spectator to any of the above three threads could tell you that just because someone should know something, doesn't mean they do.Originally Posted by Amele

On the topic of PLDs, what rings would you use and what situation?
I recently got both Defending Ring and Shadow Ring (Dont ask), and also have Sattva.
I currently use D Ring/Sattva for most things, with Shadow ring in my magic down build. But should I be wearing it fulltime over Sattva?
If you're fighting anything that can deal any sort of magical damage, I'd full-time Shadow Ring.

unfortunately for you; askar falls into the shit is situational pile. (granted, askars situation is pretty extreme but I guarantee you that samurai run into it) to wit: IF your fstr is capped without a body piece AND your accuracy is capped without a body piece; then askar korazin is strictly superior to haub+1. for people who don't have usukane sune-ate, this may be true in additional circumstances because it lets you offload your store TP for 6 hit from hands or feet, which could give you quite a bit of extra bonuses.Originally Posted by Tsuko_Asura
for instance: askar korazin + hachiryu kote is 10 dex, 5 acc, 5 str, 12 attack, 12 evasion, 2% da, and preserves 6-hit setup. - you could of course use a pair of dusk gloves instead for 3% more haste (although I generally think the ~12-13accuracy you're getting from hachiryu hands will out strip the 3% haste)
this compares favorably to the haubergeon + hachiman kote setup of 5 dex, 10 acc, 9 str, 10 attack -20 evasion and 6 hit setup.
it doesn't of course, compare favorably to haub+1 / hachi kote +1 but the general point is that there's setups that make the askar korazin relevant even when it isn't strictly superior.
of course; this isn't really to say that I'd recommend anyone use an askar korazin. but if you someone were to do a write up something like: hachiryu body > usukane haramaki > haubergeon+1 > askar > Byrnie+1 > haubergeon > Shura Haidate > Byrnie >>>> Domarruuuu!I wouldn't really disagree with it.

I have to completely disagree with your list though, unfortunately.NQ Haubergeon is still very much superior to Askar and HQ Byrnie; As is Shura, if you'd like to knit-pick. The fact of the matter is, unless one has an Amanomurakumo, in most relevant situations, their Accuracy really isn't capped.
This doesn't happen with Soul Voice Etudes, let alone without a body piece.IF your fstr is capped without a body piece

If it were only a hands-body trade, then It might be fine, but if it implies trading off Turban or Askar head (let's leave Ace alone for a second, because with it then there's no need for discussion) for say O-hat and them using something else for hands, like some kind of kotes (att or acc), that would be a 8% Haste loss, so for a low-profile setup like that a Hauby/Turban combo would be better.
I've considered using Askar body on my DRK to get a 6-hit build for Algol, however It just doesn't work well, even for a full meritted A- rank Great Sword, losing Adaberk and P.Charm for Chiv or Toreador for Ecphoria or Assault Earring for Attila, it just ends up being on a huge loss of dot instead of a real gain (now Aurum body is something else to play with for merits).
So I've seen Askar body just as a solo body (while still getting Ares) since it has eva+ and stuff, and mainly a Relic-user body, for those relics with acc+20, but now with Aurum body, it might be debatable on which one is better, if the DA+2% from one or the extra stats from the other one, same goes for Hachiryu body, with its huge Acc and Crit bonus, you could use some other pieces you wouldn't consider before like the new neck, with earring, throwing, ring.
INow I don't even know why I started written all of this stuff![]()
