I use AF+1, there's too big of a difference in acc for 5 more str especially if you're eating meat.

I have a question of my own. Homam body or Hauby +1 for Drk TP set? I was leaning towards Homam. Thanks for any replies.

it's pretty close. I'd probably use Homam with gsword (A- skill etc.) and hauby+1 with scythe (A+ skill etc) I know darks who swear by both regardless of situation, but I'm sure there's times when one is better than the other.

we can do a better work up of which is better for you specifically if you'd like to give more specifics (other gear, what kind of target you want to compare against, etc.)

I'm sorry, I don't understand this. You get MORE Accuracy with a Haub +1, so how is G.Sword being less accurate a justification to use the body with less +Acc?

my bad. I was remembering it as 18acc and not 15. ignore most of my specific advice - I haven't run the numbers on dark myself so the only thing that's really accurate in my statement is that some people prefer one and some people prefer the other.

edit: running some numbers: 6str is +1-2~ fstr, with a D85+ weapon this will be ~1-2% (a little less than each depending on exact fstr) 16-17 attack will be about 0.05pdif - if you have say, 600 attack this will be about 3%. the accuracy difference of ~1-2 will be about 0.55% so altogether a damage boost of ~5.6% and a ws rate boost of 0.55% versus nominal (nominal being a generic 15 accuracy body in this case).

homam would give a ~5% boost to damage (if you use algol with it it'll be about 4.7%) and an equal boost to ws rate.

so if ~.6-.9% of your (nominal) tp mode damage is worth more than ~4.2-4.4% of your (nominal) ws damage, the haub+1 will be better. if the reverse is true, then the homam corazza is better.

I think the homam corazza will win in general since I don't believe that most dark knights do 82% of their total damage in tp mode.

I may just be misunderstanding the math involved, but Homam Corazza is 2.5% Triple Attack, not 5%, according to otherwiki.

That would give Homam Corazza a ~2.5% boost to damage (and with it WS rate); with Algol, a ~2.4% boost to damage, wouldn't it? I could very easily be misunderstanding your maths here however.

EDIT: Looking at it again, are you doing 2.5 x 2 because it's essentially two extra hits?

Yea, it's 2x 'cause it's 2 extra hits. That being said, the WS dmg isn't quite that high (1/6th of the procs will give minimal extra WS dmg [only extra TP for the WS], and another 1/6th the time it'll only be 1 extra hit that gives the extra tp), but will still likely outparse Haub on average.

In general, does capping DRK magic skill better than Enfeebling or Elemental or would Enfeebling and Elemental be more benefitial than DRK magic skill. Yes, I do have DRK,RDM, and BLM @ 75 that's why I'am asking. Which 2 skills should I cap out of those 3.

I think capping Enfeebling and Elemental would be more beneficial to those jobs. I'm not a DRK but I hardly ever see any of the DRK's I know using their Dark Magic, accept for maybe Drain and Drain 2 and a couple of the absorb spells. They tend to lean way more toward the melee side of things where as 90% of a BLM's DMG is Elemental Magic, and for RDM's Enfeebling Magic is huge.

But like I say I'm not a DRK, I do however have BLM and RDM at 75 and have both Elemental and Enfeebling capped and will admit that they make a huge difference for those jobs.

This is true, I didn't bother to estimate the spoilage from overage on 100TP because I wasn't sure what sort of hit count a typical dark knight has these days. (I'm assuming based on your statements it's still 6hit) although I think you might be discounting too little (since 6 hits is really 5 hits after TP gain from ws etc)

back of the envelope here (so not as precise as initially)
but 1/5th of the time you will only get 1/2 the ws rate benefit, and 1/5th of the time you won't get any benefit so .6*4.5~ + .2*2.3 = ~3.2%

3.2% vs. .9% .. you would need to do >78% of your damage in tp mode for haub+1 to be better. (revised from previous 86% estimate) still too high probably.

edit: although if you were under near perpetual amnesia lock I could see it happening lol

Okay, I got a good question for BLU. I'm trying to get both of these items:

    Enkidu's Mittens (STR+4 DEX+4 Acc+5 Subtle Blow+2) vs Alky Bracelets (STR+11 DEX-6)

Note this is for the big 3 multihits, not something like cannonball (which I would use alky bracelets for of course). STR and DEX are both mods for the big three, and since alky bracelets has a big penalty in DEX, it would off set the greater STR mods. Enkidu's has accuracy too (which would help if you don't have enough all ready) and subtle blow would just be icing on the cake.

Would definitely take Enkidu's for Diss/Rip/Barrage, hands down.

Do you solo a lot on your RDM or BLM? And are you at the 6 tick tier of Dark magic skill for Bio yet? If not I would say go stack some Dark Magic merits till then, would help make you have sexier Drains and Aspir on RDM/BLM and BLM.

Then would be a toss up on the other merits but if you are soloing more you probably want Bind/Gravity to stick so I would definately go with Enfeebling magic skill merits.

If you use RDM for anything whatsoever, 8/8 Enfeebling to start, because that will hold value on BLM as well and marginally on DRK to boot. I have 1 Dark Magic merit, but that was from before I had Abyssal Earring, where Torque + Dark Earring + merit gave me 6/tick without needing an additional swap. If you have Abyssal(which would be a good idea with the jobs you have) then I wouldn't really worry about, Elemental merits go a very long way for RDM and always help for BLM.

My current setup is 8 Enfeebling, 5 Elemental, 1 Enhancing(to hit 300 skill), 1 Dark, and 1 Wind instruments, ideally I'd probably drop the Wind for the Elemental since I don't use BRD often, the Dark I think I'll just leave. Drain/Aspir in Dynamis/Limbus as RDM/BLM/DRK is really handy, so I'd recommend a dedicated Dark Magic set, but I wouldn't spend merits on it. It should be easy enough to hit the Bio tiers with gear alone.

Sorry that post was longer than it should have been, lol

Enfeebling is probably the most important and then Elemental IMO. Enfeebling is godly for RDM and BLM. I wouldn't merit Dark skill but I'd consider some enhancing. My RDM is 60 and getting taken to 75, but I have 75 WHM and BLM and a 69 SCH so I'm thinking about this a lot.

I think the situational use of DRK magic isn't enough to stop you meriting either Ele or Enf. I'm going with 6,6,4 - Ele, Enf, Enh but I need to sit and do my Barspell/Phalanx sums and work out whether this is generally sensible. Currently at 6 enfeebling, 4 elemental, 4 enhancing.

would depend a bit on what gear you're wearing I suppose. assuming base skill is divisible by 5, if you have just an elemental torque for your 'odd' (not divisible by 5 gear) and no earring you're at +2 extra, 4 enhancing is 8 skill and would put you at +0 extra and giving you 2 points of barspell.

if you had the level 30 enhancing skill earring, or a glamor jupon, you are at a net 0 extra, so should either do 3 (minimum merits to see any improvement) or 5 (enough to get 2 points)

no idea how it would work for phalanx.

I don't recall the exact #s, but for a scholar with all +enh gear (jupon, earring, cape, af legs, torque) you need a mere 1 merit in Enh to break the next tier. That being said, if you plan to play scholar in salvage, 2 merits will break a tier in both phalanx and enspells with 0 gear cells, which is personally why I put 2 into enhancing.

Mainly a space saving question from me. Got a Ritter Gorget last night, so I got rid of an HP piece (whatever the HP+15 for WAR/PLD/DRK piece is) and an enmity piece (Harmonia's Torque), but I am wondering if I should hold on to or get rid of my Evasion Torque (Evasion Skill +7 vs. Ritter's Evasion +5).

Ritter takes care of enmity for the jobs I have that need it, takes care of HP (Spirits Within for PLD, I guess some breathe attacks on BLU, and ohshi- macros), but evasion is only thing I'm not sure on. Using the torque on DNC sometimes, and I want to try some NIN soloing.

I can't imagine that it would give enough benefit to use over something like a PCC on NIN or DNC when solo, and obviously PLD has enough neck pieces to juggle already.

Maybe something like THF pulling in Dynamis it'd be worthwhile, or like Charybdis tanking or some shit.

2 evasion isn't going to break you. Just use Ritter.
