Yeah basically, with the Shadow Mantle, parses have said it'll go off about 10% of the time. Essentially its like having a -10% damage taken mantle, considering only damage. A nulldamage will prevent interuption, however its less likely to go off than a shield block. So upping the shield block rate (not to mention parry and loleva) will help you get Utsusemi up easier, so you can continue blinking damage, while Shadow Mantle will generally reduce more damage in total (for stuff like AOEs, double attacks, TP attacks, etc).Originally Posted by Atlasion
Edit: Also, Shadow Mantle and Ring are really annoying, because they seem to rarely work when you want it to and they're very unrealiable. Sometimes I'll go through an entire Dynamis run and see only 1 null, but sometimes I'll be fighting Tia and null a bunch of attacks/tp moves. I've actually had Ring and Mantle work in unison, with the damage and additional effect on Seiryu, which was cool imo <_<

My last Fafnir encounter was fairly fun with Mantle on. Only got hit for full damage a few times, and had Mantle proc twice when I needed to get Ichi up. That's really just luck though.. I've never really thought about the Parry and Eva boosts on Boxer's much. Even with 235 skill, I just don't trust those to kick in. I changed my "staying alive" gearset macro to include Shadow Mantle. Hoping to tank a few more HNMs before switching it back to Boxers.
When I'm tanking as /NIN (which is most of the time), I tend to rely on shadows staying up to maintain hate. On most mobs I can keep shadows up provided I have at least one march and haste and I always try to cast Ichi when I have a single Ni shadow left (and have to manually cancle it if needed) so it's not too often I have to hope for a shield block to get it back up. Usually if I get hit a few times the other tank will grab hate anyway. There's a been a few occasions at under 20% Tiamats when I've died in like 2 hits cause shadows went down though. It's just that and solo tanking Khimaira I'm more worried about really.
Anyway, Shadow Mantle does look a lot cooler than Boxers. If only we could see capes..![]()

Custom M Gloves or AF+1 Hands for SA and SA+WS?
Wondering if the +3STR is worth one inventory slot.
You mean besides the fact that it's a peice of mini hecatomb that can be obtained solo at lv 25 for free? You know the answer.. you just dont wanna admit it.Originally Posted by Wintermute

I've been using it in SA/SA+WS since I got it. Was just wondering if it was worth the Inventory space after I got AF+1 D:Originally Posted by Khajit

maneater/ridill VS lolByakko's Axe
so far for me, my WAR/SAM with GA seems to be doing better than my WAR/NIN, and my survivability is about the same. i hate to say it, but it seems that my Ridill is going to rot unless something changes.
any other WAR's getting the same results? and no biased replies just because you don't want 1year+ of sitting in Aery to go to waste.

Nope. People still need Adaman Hauberks, Dalmaticas, Hecatomb Subligaria, and (I guess) Koenig Cuirasses. Look at how the Turtle is camped, it's only good abjuration is Dalmatica and the NQ only drops ores. Even if Ridill becomes total trash Fafnir still drops Aquarian Hands, Aquarian Feet, Earthen Hands, and Neptunal Head. Face it, we're going to be spending a lot of time in the Aery regardless.Originally Posted by Kaylia
That is unless Square adds in a new way to get abjurations. They could give it some sort of Norse name and have a decent chance of abjurations coming out of treasure chests after beating bosses. Nah, they would never do that.

WTS Ridill on Odin PST.
there's a parse floating around somewhere (I think on advanced under something like: axe vs. ridill vs. sword) that shows a post patch GAxe still being outparsed by ridill in identical gear.
I'll try to dig up a link for you.
edit: here it is
Yeah, I know that, but it's easier to cap your ls e.body than Ridill. Almost everything else is rotting, or can be capped within 4-5 claims. We had many fafnir recently where everything was rotting, and no one outside our LS wanted the loot (a.feet, a.hand, aegis, hrotti). A.body is ok, but noble/yingyan/morrigan own it. The only good item that come out from aery that worth the time is e.body if ridill is outparsed, and this mean no more day #1,2,3.Originally Posted by Septimus

Maybe on your server, but certainly not here...Originally Posted by Kaylia

because you know, spamming the same food and using identical gear and subs isn't a good way to minimize variables.

remember when they made that parse initially no one had confirmed dex = acc or str = attack yet so it was really just a 'do this weapon swap straight up'.
and /nin is still going to be a sub used (even by some gaxe wars) in some party setups (/sam is not equivalent damage mitigation even if it is good damage mitigation.) so it's relevant (even if a little flawed) for those times that you need to go war/nin and have to decide weapon(s) based on that fact and not strictly what outparses the other with freedom to do whatever setup you want.
apologies for not reading the thread past the point that I had last clicked through it before using /search /copy /paste. the points they make later about why it low-balled the gaxe's numbers are good ones.
