Neither party has done what they were elected to do. Congress' approval rating is in the 20s. Rather than voting because of their party, I think you should look at their voting record and their stand on issues.Originally Posted by Andarvi

I keep hearing these reasons again and again and again. I don't know about you, but i have alittle more faith in the public to be able to objectively decide on which candidate to chose, and not on color or gender. I mean, we're not in the 50s anymore, and any person who would have a problem with a woman or black president is probably a minority, even in the south.Originally Posted by Andarvi

It's the story of a place called Mouseland. Mouseland was a place where all the little mice lived and played, were born and died. And they lived much the same as you and I do.
They even had a Parliament. And every four years they had an election. Used to walk to the polls and cast their ballots. Some of them even got a ride to the polls. And got a ride for the next four years afterwards too. Just like you and me. And every time on election day all the little mice used to go to the ballot box and they used to elect a government. A government made up of big, fat, black cats.
Now if you think it strange that mice should elect a government made up of cats, you just look at the history of Canada for last 90 years and maybe you'll see that they weren't any stupider than we are.
Now I'm not saying anything against the cats. They were nice fellows. They conducted their government with dignity. They passed good laws--that is, laws that were good for cats. But the laws that were good for cats weren't very good for mice. One of the laws said that mouseholes had to be big enough so a cat could get his paw in. Another law said that mice could only travel at certain speeds--so that a cat could get his breakfast without too much effort.
All the laws were good laws. For cats. But, oh, they were hard on the mice. And life was getting harder and harder. And when the mice couldn't put up with it any more, they decided something had to be done about it. So they went en masse to the polls. They voted the black cats out. They put in the white cats.
Now the white cats had put up a terrific campaign. They said: "All that Mouseland needs is more vision." They said:"The trouble with Mouseland is those round mouseholes we got. If you put us in we'll establish square mouseholes." And they did. And the square mouseholes were twice as big as the round mouseholes, and now the cat could get both his paws in. And life was tougher than ever.
And when they couldn't take that anymore, they voted the white cats out and put the black ones in again. Then they went back to the white cats. Then to the black cats. They even tried half black cats and half white cats. And they called that coalition. They even got one government made up of cats with spots on them: they were cats that tried to make a noise like a mouse but ate like a cat.
You see, my friends, the trouble wasn't with the colour of the cat. The trouble was that they were cats. And because they were cats, they naturally looked after cats instead of mice.
Presently there came along one little mouse who had an idea. My friends, watch out for the little fellow with an idea. And he said to the other mice, "Look fellows, why do we keep on electing a government made up of cats? Why don't we elect a government made up of mice?" "Oh," they said, "he's a Bolshevik. Lock him up!" So they put him in jail.
But I want to remind you: that you can lock up a mouse or a man but you can't lock up an idea.
I'm going to disagree... I may be too optimistic but I think the fact my proposed ticket is going to be a woman and a black man could and will win. Obama will energize the black vote, which already is pretty overwhemingly democrat. The black republicans (which are growing in numbers) will vote for him. Take a look at this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:US_p ... 04_map.svg
This is the electoral map of the '04 election, the one which was decided by Ohio. If Ohio, Texas, or Florida, or many combinations of two states go democrat, its a democratic victory. Of the states which voted democratic in 04, it is reasonable that most, if not all will do so again. Democrats won back the house in '06, further indicating discontent with the current administration. Republican candidates will not be able to move away from getting tagged with Bush fatigue, especially since the big money is coming from their base, a group that represents Bush's existing 30-odd percent job approval. Republicans have it very tough this time. I am biased though because I'm a democrat.
McCain had a chance with his 'Maverick' style but hes all but thrown that away to take advantage of Republican style fund raising, which has hurt him more than it has helped. Romney is the republican I respect the most out of the field so far, but I don't like his chances.
I believe this too, but to say it out loud sounds very naive lolOriginally Posted by Kuya

I think that either would be a bad President because they lack real political experience and are empty suits that lick their fingers to see which way the wind is blowing before they make any statement. They don't believe in anything, therefor the country shouldn't believe in them.
That's assuming the president is elected based on how much publicity they get and how many people they reach, rather than their stances on issues and voting records.Originally Posted by Fyrie

It doesn't matter in the long run, none of them give a fuck about any of us anyway. I'm voting for John Edwards in the primary cause he is the best looking (physically) person running. Whoever wins will be the "face" of America for the next 4 years, so lets gets the most attractive face up there we can!
I'm gonna assume you never heard of Ron Paul, since you're referring to McCain as the maverick. Ron Paul voted against the Iraq war from the very beginning, he voted against the patriot act, he wants less federal government, and has more money on hand than McCain, yet he gets no media attention whatsoever.Originally Posted by evilbau

That is true, though. All that you really need to win an election is name recognition. Chances are, if you pick a random, let's say Giuliani or Clinton supporter and ask them why they support them, you're not really gonna get an answer.Originally Posted by Khamsin

From what I've seen he has the most experience of any of the candidates. The only gripe I have against him is he responds to every question by touting his previous accomplishments and that experiences, which I suppose is what he has to do to get his name out. He's far more qualified that Obama, and more genuine than Hillary and Edwards IMO.Originally Posted by Royal
I think obama is a bit of an empty suit, but I wouldn't say hillary is. They do take politics into account but what do you expect, they are politicians, and this is an election, where any wrong move sends you home for good. Who can forget these moments:Originally Posted by Septimus

Gore and his interviews/press conferences which appeared to be in some sort of barn
Quayle being told in a debate 'Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy' when comparing himself to JFK
Bush Sr. breaking his "Read my lips... no new taxes" pledge.
In short, to not take politics into account is retarded. You could be turned into a punchline and lose all credibility too fast in this media crazy society.

Certainly any individual candidate has the potential of breaking through what I mentioned earlier as barriers for Republicans to overcome this election.

Anyway I'm just hoping the dems nominate Edwards simply because I think there's just still too many people around that will never vote for a woman or a non-white person.
No, no, I understand, but Paul has always been a constitutionalist, has been against a lot of the things the GOP has done and is so much of a threat to the GOP, that the Michigan GOP leader wanted to ban him from all future GOP debates.Originally Posted by evilbau

edit: I also didn't know a lot about the Republican candidates and was going to vote Democratic, until I heard about Ron Paul on The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and his views started to make more sense to me than the Democrats.
The major factor being that I know a lot of women that wouldn't vote for a female president, while I don't know a single black person that wouldn't vote for a black president.
I just really can't stand Hilary, shes such a hypocrite about the war that it drives me nuts. At least cover up your lies a little bit, don't shout them out like a fucktard.
Feel like i'm just pissing away my vote anyways, so piss away for Obama or Hillary. Might as well break a glass ceiling or two to make my vote worthwhile in some regard. Couldn't do much worse then our current one, anyways, and the world hasn't yet came to an end.
