I would like to note one last thing (and a pre-empt to the "You don't know me, I am a 30 year old black professional") in general no one uses the "-er" ending to the N-word unless they are trying to use the term as a racial slur. For someone that can barely type in English the specific use of that verbiage indicates their intent. Racial slurs are not words to "joke" around with in public. You are lucky you just got banned, imagine what would have happened if you had done that in public... you are not a comedian, you are a immature child with a keyboard.

It's pretty obvious you don't live in the south. Around here, people get beat within an inch of their life for worse. Racial tension here is extremely high.

This kind of thing happens because people don't have any respect for their own actions, or the words that they say. Because some kids felt they were excercising their right to free-speech, someone got their ass kicked, and now other kids are facing years in prison. Free-speech is a farse. We, in the US, have what's better refered to as governed liberties. Unfortunately, its impossible for the government to teach people how to respect others, or to choose their words appropriately.

So instead, we have to rely on small instances like this, to remove the trash and filth from the public forums, shunning them to isolation. The only problem with things like this, is that regardless of the situation, the offending party will almost never learn respect for others, as they'll never view what they did as wrong or inappropriate. And the offended party will never learn forgiveness or temperance because its human nature to look for ways to suffer.

In the end, the best choice is to be considerate of others. Regardless whether its with your words or your actions. Because the only realm for truly free speech is in your own mind.

Well getting your ass kicked isn't exactly nothing is it? I'm not sure where you're from but in the US you indeed have the right to freedom of speech; but that doesn't preclude you from being held accountable for people getting hurt if you yell fire in a movie theater, or call someone a racial slur and then getting beat down.

I personally have never, not ever, seen anyone get beat up for saying the word nigger jokingly unless they said it in a way that sounded racist. I know you've heard the phrase, it's not what you say, but how you say it.

Through text you can't fucking tell. What the guy did was dumb, tells exist for this reason, but I also do not think it was something worthy of a ban/suspension.

P.S.: I'm black, and I don't give a shit 9/10 of the time when someone says the word nigger, regardless of their race. Just depends on when/how/where they say it.

I think this is just another example of how much more SE is doing to actually enforce the rules they set so long ago, whether its banning a fish bot, a group of rmt or this kind of incident. It should never be acceptable use words such as nigger in /say or /shout and we should not have to use filters to prevent hearing that kind of crap.

On the other hand it sounds like some of you think using nigger in a truely racist context gives the recipient the right to fight back with physical violence. Anyone who reacts to words with physical violence is already much more at fault than the person who provoked him (this also applies to E-thugging but more in a comic sense).
