    Counting Sheep - Assualt

    From reading viewtopic.php?f=24&t=11374&hilit=counting+sheep

I have a few questions on this assualt.

When you mine for bronzes ore, how many ores do you get?

When the NPC wants the coins does it only want 1 coin? What if it's the bronze coins, how will that work?

Can you give the NPC random food or does it require a certain food it is asking for?

Can you use IS points to give to the NPC, I would assume not.

    Is there any other pointers?

My static will be all /thf or /brd

    Just read the wiki...

you get 1 ore every time you mine 1 ore. Npc want 1 gold, 3 silver or 5bronze imperial coin..or something like that. Ignore bronze, gamble silver and bring back gold.

The qirin will ask for specific food, and you cant use IS to buy coin

Don't bother with Copper Ore/Bronze Coins. Gamble silvers as soon as you get them. Trade in golds are soon as you get them. Get all three foods in the very beginning.

    This Assault is very easy.

Ya its very easy and one of the Assaults JP usually shout for - still tho sometimes you get shitty luck and end up with 833 points because the Gambler cheats and the Mining points spit out no Gold.

    Re: Counting Sheep - Assualt

I can't find the thread now, but I'm fairly certain that a few months back, when this was among the best assaults to do for fast AP with a guaranteed win (this was before Salvage was released when we were just spamming fast missions in the hope that AP would be useful again someday after we each got our gear sets), someone here suggested trading silver and bronze directly to the shepherd instead of gambling it. Previously we would usually get 5/5 with the occasional 4/5 using the gambling method, but after switching I don't think we ever got 4/5 again, maybe once. Wish I could find the thread to give proper credit to whoever it was, but anyhow I recommend that method. I think 4 silver = a sheep or something so there's less risk than gambling.

I've always had bad luck gambling. 4 silvers will get you a sheep. Just make sure you coordinate and all trade them to the same shepherd.

Defuse the threat with 3 imo is easier, and you usually get 1300-1500, but its tier 7. Leujeuam red and blue is by far the best, but it involve using samurai's 2hour

All three are good because they are relatively short missions for decent AP and trioable, but I agree that RvB > Defuse > Sheep overall. Sheep was our mission of choice though before those ranks came out, and I imagine this info is still useful for groups who aren't all Sergent Major or higher (the mamool one where you open chests and MGS to the start is more points, I think, but also more stress). Should be worth noting though that a lot of groups can do 3-person RvB aside from ones with 2H SAM...

Wasnt saying 3 people can't win if they don't have Sam, but they probably wont get max point either depending what setup attack them.

Not sure if mnk/nin or nin/war can solo..it's kinda risky, and some blu might unagro and come back while you solo. Mnk/nin can probably win no problem with special tho.

Leaving one person at the pop, you can either have someone kite off the guys near boss while MNK or WAR or SAM or probably some other jobs solo with 2H, you can solo on BLU without 2H while someone kites off pops, or 2 BLM can kill by timed nuke and then one finishes while the other kites off (again without 2H) all for max points.

I never tried on war, but I'm not certain I would be able to do it. That guy hit very hard, attack quickly and can uses some annoying blu magic. I can see mnk do it with hundred fist tho.

2 blm with timed nuke probably work as well, as long every add goes after the blm.

    Re: Counting Sheep - Assualt

My group is THF/NIN, MNK/NIN, and BLU/NIN for Red Versus Blue.

I wait at the NPC on THF while the MNK and BLU go prepare next to where the NM spawns. Then I pop a pair of Powder Boots, talk to the NPC, and run up to the NM. Flee wears off just a bit before you get to the NM. Then I pop Flee using AF1 boots for the extra time, and run past the NM, and back towards start using the other side. I aggro all the blue team along the way so the red guys don't start dying to them, since that deducts from points if they die. The BLU and MNK, without 2H, kill the NM pretty quickly, before I'm able to get back to the Hume, and we always seem to get 1600 points (1 Red death, one of the fighters alongside the Hume, which we can't prevent unless we do 2H, but 66 points isn't a big enough difference to do them daily as opposed to 2 one day, 3 another, etc.). With Powder Boots for THF, Poison Potion and some food for the BLU and MNK, this hasn't failed us. We lost one time because we didn't bring Poison Potions and it did Yawn. Fun.

Never thought about using powder boot and aggro everything on the way. Anyone /thf could probably do it, unless he get unlucky on magic casted by blue.

None of the BLUs cast magic on me, in fact I don't think I even noticed them start trying, since if you run by fast enough you're out of range before the whole "Hey look, I found you" delay wears off and they start to cast.

Trio RvB with mnk brd <anything> works fine without 2h, occasionally get 1600 instead of 1666 depending on how lazy the person at the npc is.

As for returning blus linking, just pull Raubahn west and they won't see you on their way back.

I've always popped powder boots, elegy then kited the rest. Our WAR is able to solo the guy consistently as well. Not sure if he pops mighty strikes or not, probably not needed though.

We only do 1 RVB usually as it's pretty boring and we need points from Mamool. Trio'ing marids in the mist is one of my favorite assaults.

The one time I did Defuse the threat, I sucked bad. I'm not sure how to do it well, any pointers?

All 3 need players to walk together to minimize the amount of bombs that goes off at the same time and increase the chance to find it. The activation radius is a huge circle, so when one is activated, keep walking straigth and you will usually find the "Kachink..." area in front of you. When you find the "three dot" message, just run randomly everywhere until you see the exclamation mark and hear bomb pop. If you outrun it, just walk back and wait 1 sec to pop it.

With 3 people, there is no reason to miss any single pop. It get harder when there is 2-3 mines in same room and they all activate at the same time, but you can usually get all of them if you are quick. It's impossible to always get them, I usually miss 2-3 for 1466points, or 5-6 for 1350 points on bad day.

Bomb generally spawn at the same place (there is like 4-5 spot where they can pop in every room), so practice help a bit.

    Re: Counting Sheep - Assualt

We would just split up and each take 1/3 of the map. After a few runs you just get a feel for it, the only problems are rooms where 2-3 happen to be loaded at once, confusing you for which one is where, and giving you less time to hit the second one. If you keep invisible up the Qiqirn won't aggro, but if you happen to aggro because it's down while you're searching for a bomb they are pretty weak, just let them smack you while you finish finding it, then kill them after. Each run takes only a few minutes, and while there are 15 possible bombs to defuse, I think doing like 9 gets you as many points as any other fast pre-SL mission, while getting more than that you can get up to 16xx points with 15 (3 member points).

    Re: Counting Sheep - Assualt

Is there a reason Sam is considered the ideal melee for RvB? In terms of dishing out pure damage, isn't mnk and war 2hr just as powerful, if not more so?
