Awesome movie, i just saw it with me and my buddy. Definitely one of RDJ's best performances, and i loved the little comedic bits through out the movie (like when paltrow says she takes out the trash...BURN!) or when Terrance Howard looks back at the other suit...then it dawned upon me that is he supposed to be Warmachine, as that character was black iirc (i only faintly remember warmachince from Marvel Vs. Capcom)

The final fight....such a let down, but still not enough to sully such a great movie.

btw if anyone knows, i know stark was driving an Audi R8...what was his butler driving, looked like a rolls but i'm not sure

there's a 3rd Ant-Man, Eric O'Grady who's a total scumbag. he stole the suit, sneaks around and peaks at people showering, sleeps with his friend's wife, ditches his gf when she gets pregnant, all that good stuff.

    ---

the Avenger roster should be: Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, Pym, Wasp, Hawkeye, Black Widow

Thor would be strange if they don't use something similar to the Ultimates storyline.

i hope Spiderman and Wolverine are not in it.

Spiderman would have to be played by Tobey Maguire and Wolverine by Hugh Jackman... otherwise it wouldn't work. Not only that, Sony owns the rights to those two movies.

I didn't even get the Warmachine reference until I got home and Akiyama explained it to me.

I also didn't get the SHIELD references through the movie. I mean, sure, they changed the words around a bit but I should have recognized that the acronym spelled "shield" before the guy actually said it.

Yeah, every time they said the name I was trying to figure out what it stood for, but since the plot moves along fairly quickly I always gave up so I wouldn't miss something else.

first scene i saw a black guy, i was thinking if his name was Jim Rhodes.

i didn't even try to figure out the SHIELD thing. i was looking for more Happy Hogan scenes but he barely had any lines.

Hogan was being played by Jon Favreau (the director), if that helps you spot him.

The Wolverine movie coming out soonish is supposed to be a prequel story to the X-men flicks, so it wouldn't make sense for them to include him being asked to join the Avengers prior to SHIELD existing (apparently), but as Marvel has shown over the years, logic and common sense don't apply to Wolverine if it will net Marvel a few extra dollars.

I stopped reading Ultimate X-men a very long time ago so I can't really comment on anything that happens there. Ultimate Spiderman is still really the only Ultimates property that hasn't gone belly up at this point. Though I guess they're doing an Ultimate Universe retcon here some time soon (after what, 8-9 years of existence? jeez), so maybe that will fix things

And back when I started reading the Ultimate stuff, I thought it was refreshing that they were giving things a fresh start and divesting themselves of 40-odd years of retcons and contradictions.

    Re: Iron Man

Ultimate X-Men was a little disappointing from the start. It seemed like it never really got traction due to the constant chaos of story-lines shifting and characters coming & going(but this could be said of the regular X-Men titles too). Ultimate Spiderman was solid and entertaining only because of Bendis & Bagley. Just consistent greatness. The Ultimates is the same, Millar & Hitch kept it great but it took a huge nosedive with Ultimates 3 when they got Jeph Loeb to write it(ughhh I hate him).

So what I am getting out of this thread is that Xavier wants to be the Pepper to my Tony.

if they attempt to follow the original line-up (Avengers) it will be Iron Man, Wasp, Ant-Man, Thor, Hulk, & Cap (he joined after the hulk left).

    Re: Iron Man

I had low expectations of this movie, it looked boring to me, but I ended up loving is so friggin' much!!! Easily one of, if not the best superhero movie of the later years. I loved Robert Downey Jr. in it, and I thought they approached the superhero concept with an awesome mix of seriousness and comedy.

I'd rip your heart out any day baby.

    -------------------------------------

As cool as it would have been to have watched a full power Iron Man facing off against the Iron Monger, it doesn't make for very dramatic storytelling. Full power earth shattering combat at the end of a story works best in comic books. Iron Man walked the line between comic and drama, and most dramatic stories require the climax of the movie to show the hero as an underdog who overcomes adversity. I think that if you look at just about any movie, the hero is almost always put into a position where they could conceivably be defeated, only to rise above the situation and win.

So as cool as it would of been to have seen Iron Man just kicking his ass, I can understand the reasoning from a storytelling perspective.

    Re: Iron Man

Batman Begins is still at the top of my superhero movie list...but Iron Man was a close second. We'll have to see how The Dark Knight turns out. It could ruin the first movie if it sucks.

But Christian Bale is so damn cool I'm sure it will be good.

I dunno, I loved Batman Begins but honestly Katie Holmes brought the movie down a few notches with her less than believable acting.

    Re: Iron Man

I seriously think Bale is going to be overshadowed by Ledger in The Dark Knight.

Saw Iron Man again and I still laughed with the first booster test. Question though, was his partner in the 10 Rings? I could of sword I saw a 4 on his ring towards the end of the movie.
