What's a nice GFX card for ffxi with about a 100$ budget? Also lemme know if you know from experience whether the card is good.

Honestly, any crappy video card will work. I personally have one of the best on ATI (X1950 XT Crossfire) and it's exactly the same as it would be on my other PC, which has Radeon X800 XL. If you reside in Canada, Canadacomputers.com has a nice selection of cheap video cards. For example, this card is great and plays FFXI nicely.
Just a heads up, but ATI > Nvidia for FFXI.
ati pci-e seem abit expensive
A lot of my friends say it's quite the opposite. Then again, never had a problem with my video card so far...Originally Posted by Snowknight26

8400/8500 should fit nicely assuming you want pci-e card although you can practically get a 64mb geforce 4 for free and it'd run ffxi perfectly fine.
I like Nvidia for everything ... except ffxi.Originally Posted by Killgannon
Some Nvidia cards suffer from the fire/bard song lag. The 8800gtx cards are having problems as well. ATI cards seem to be rock solid for this game... and that's about it.
no longer any problems with any 8800's unless your on vista....but thats not the cards fault.
Nvidia's fault for bad drivers.
nvidias fault for not providing good drivers for a game thats 6 years old, right. Not even going to comment on vista.
nvidia's newer cards seem to have issues with older systems...
my friend just got a new card and he cant use most recent drivers with any media file or it will BSOD
he had to revert back to an older version :/
logically i guess that makes since though.. older PC older drivers..
i go uber cheap but i got these cards as backups recently:
Sapphire Radeon 9550 256MB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102484
$39.99 - $15 MIR = $24.99 + Tax & Ship
XFX GeForce 6200 256MB
http://www.buy.com/prod/xfx-geforce-620 ... 38367.html
$49.99 - $15 MIR - $10 GCO (google checkout) - $10 Rebate for declining the free magazine subscription = $14.99 + Tax (Free Shipping)
Sorry those are AGP but i needed them to support my legacy systems. I'm positive that there are more, and better deals for PCI-E, they are much more plentiful. These are easily powerful enough for FFXI, and they aren't very powerful cards, they meet my limited needs though.
I personally use the Nvidia 6600GT OC 512MB PCI-e, think I paid bout 150 for it. Had problems with the BRD+fire spells, but the most recent beta drivers fixed that. Now only thing i get is a crash to desktop every now an again, but i just blame it on Vista for the time being. Other than that seems to be decent card.
I agree on the ATI > Nvidia statement (at least for FFXI) on the premesis that I have FFXI on 2 computers, one with an ATI, other with a nvidia. The nvidia one feels like im fucking playing on a snes, but when I log onto the cpu with the ATI card (and its like 2years outdated for an ATI card ((PCI at that)) too, nvidia card is still the original onboard video card but still pretty new) it looks so much better.Originally Posted by Killgannon
ATI has been behind Nvidia for a few generations now....Originally Posted by retice
I strongly disagree to this, as I had an Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 video card that would run XI @ 15-20 fps max , swapped card to an ATI Radeon 9800 pro and the fps jumped to the 25-30 range. Card isn't everything, but it does do some work.Originally Posted by Khalil
These newer cards I hear are running XI better, even though it's completely unintentional. Then again it could just be the fact that things are going more onboard these days or the people are getting dual/quad cores with their new machines.
you cant compare onboard (on the motherboard) video to a video card regardless of brand/type or whatever nvidia > ati for *Originally Posted by Fayttt
snes was god damn amazing, how dare you make such ridiculous comparisons.Originally Posted by Fayttt
And the recommended video card for the game is: Graphics Card - NVIDIA GeForceFX series graphics processing unit (AGP)
with 64MB of VRAM. and minimum is 32mb lol
I'm using an 8800, couldnt be happier.
