be more specific here please. Use stuff like desktop background 'FFXI background res' 'FFXI res' etc. totally got lost with all the stuff there. and tell me how you got it that high anyway curious ^_^

Overlay Graphics Resolution = Resolution FFXI runs at. You can change this setting with the FFXI Config program that comes installed with FFXI.

Background Resolution = resolution at which the 3-D graphics in FFXI are rendered. To change this, you need to go into the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PlayOnlineUS\SquareEn ix\FinalFantasyXI) and adjust "0003" with the horizontal resolution and "0004" with the vertical resolution. Making this exactly the same or double the overlay graphics resolution boosts FFXI's fps I found.

With my old 9500 pro, every time I tried to up the Background res, FFXI would not start, I would just quit back to POL with no error. With my 8800GTX, it would take 3840 x 2400 without FFXI dying.

again, because your 9500pro couldn't drive that resolution. *shrugs*.

2048 was the max size back then. IIRC, the GF 6 series was the first cards to support 4096.

apparently not as powerful as 7900 i posted earlier but DX10 and silent (no fan). good if system is ventilated well, i guess.

Well, we'll see how FFXI runs after tonight, computer is getting upgraded right now. New geForce 8400 series and an extra 2 gigs of PC3200 Dual Channel ram.
