    Re: August Update

Still not gonna get too excited over the Einherjar update still doesn't help with the massive need for a lot of Brds and possibly the HP reduction might be only on a very small amount of mobs.

lvl 75 can probably solo Genkai monsters now, heh.

edit: Hmmm, just noticed they said all mobs lowered HP how very uncharacteristic of SE.

I hope the new missions are more than one final BCNM, and are a challenge. Sure ToAU is no CoP but still...

    Treasures of Aht Urghan Missions
The final battle is about to begin, and the fate of the Empire is in your hands! Join forces with companions new and old to unlock the mysteries hidden in this final chapter of the epic Aht Urhgan missions!

For a recap of previous missions, click here.
It is recommended that players who have not yet completed "Playing the Part" avoid viewing the aforementioned link.

    Besieged
To oppose the overwhelming power of the level 8 beastmen forces, Al Zahbi's five Serpent Generals have spent the previous months honing their skills. In addition, the Empire will be putting into effect a decree which allows additional distribution of temporary items after a certain number of invaders have been defeated. Finally, if the beastmen forces are not defeated by the Empire, or capture the Astral Candesence, they will automatically retreat one Earth hour after their arrival in Al Zahbi.

    Einherjar
In an effort to lower the difficulty level of Einherjar, the HP of all monsters in the Hazhalm Testing Grounds will be reduced in the upcoming version update.
We will make further adjustments should this challenging area continue to prove excessively difficult.

    Assault Mission "Nyzul Isle Investigation"
Currently, the data for the highest floor you have investigated in Nyzul Isle will be deleted after defeating the monsters on Floor 100. Unlike with other floors, this removes the possibility of retrying the floor in an attempt to obtain the treasure you seek.
As of the next version update, the data will still be deleted after clearing Floor 100, but in exchange for the loss of data, the chance for obtaining the armor pieces will be increased to 100%.
While clearing to Floor 100 is no easy task, we are sure there are heroes out there that are up to the challenge!

The Chocobo Hot and Cold Game
    Chocobo Abilities
Resting your chocobo for thirty six hours (Earth time) after playing the Chocobo Hot and Cold game will allow you to dig twice more, as well as increase your chances to "hit the jackpot" the next time you play the game.
Furthermore, chocobos of players who succeed at finding treasure in any area three times in a row will temporarily gain the "Treasure Finder" ability. Chocobos that already have "Treasure Finder" will have the effect of the ability temporarily doubled.

    Chocobucks
A new reward will soon be available in the form of vouchers that can be exchanged for chocobucks, with the chocobuck reward varying with the difficulty of the area.
The vouchers will always be found inside the treasure chests in addition to the standard rewards.

    Limit Break Quests
With the current level of advancement of the majority of the player base, it has become increasingly difficult to find fellow adventurers who have yet to complete the limit break quests. In an effort to alleviate the woes of newer players, the limit break quests from level 50 to level 60 will have their difficulty reduced in the following manner:

    Level 50 "In Defiant Challenge"
Drop rates for the quest items will be improved.

Level 55 "Atop the Highest Mountains"
The relative strength of the quest monsters will be reduced so that a party of six level 51 characters will be able to defeat them.
More stuff made easy for the Allakhazam population.
This should get it's own thread.

Also, I think SE really wants us to manaburn Einherjar.

EDIT: While I like that Besieged will have a time limit... they are really ignoring the bigger issues: "Besieged:" should be "Assault:" and the number of monsters in a wave should be based on the number of people in Al Zahbi at the time of their entrance.

A BRD with a haste/dmg mitigation setup and a dedicated PLD to voke, and a RDM to phalanx2/haste/refresh/cure him can almost keep all the mobs asleep solo. I say almost because during one of my runs our bards kept an entire wave lullaby'd by himself, but I believe at the very start he was being helped out by some other bards. I am certain however that it would have been possible to go in with just 1 bard, just much risker - he dies everyone is screwed etc.

Yeah, there will be a line to ePeen the Hound now.

I did have a Rdm solo G2 for me though, didn't realise it wasn't so easy to take em solo til a while later >.>

As for 100% drop on the top floor items.... Askar Korazins for everyone?

    Nice.

    Re: August Update

So far so good. On Pandemonium it always takes us longer than an hour to lose when we do lose, so I don't see us missing the AC again until WoG comes out and everyone spends all their time in Olde Jeuno or wherever. Einherjar changes will also be nice because our problem was never handling 12 mobs at once, just dwindling interest after a few weeks so running out of time to kill everything + boss with the relative few that showed up. Nyzul probably won't affect many people unless they ninja-patch the warp trick along with it. And genkai = who cares obviously for anyone reading these forums but I'd imagine it probably does suck to be an up-and-coming lvl 50er and have to try to get those done with the proportion of people who are already 75 and don't care, same as with the CoP changes the last few patches.

AF2+AF1 pants = Charm+ set. All the other is lolsituationmob gear, needs more Charm+ gear.

The ToAU reward will be crappy im betting, and it better not be a ring or an earring. I hope its an ammo for mages, a back for melee and a.. waist for tanks.

Watch it be the Glory Crown though, and all it will be is +2 to all stats.

    Re: August Update

G1 and G2 still make a lot of people quit or say that this game is crap, I see shouts for G1 - G2 when i go into jeuno sometimes and not everyone know a lvl75, G1 was horrible when I made it back in the day, had to hire two or three times people for the damn papirus (I was the higher level in my LS).

G1 and G2 are two examples why this game could never be a real winner, quests that mean lots and lots of wasted hours that create a lot of frustration and a fun game does not need "frustration" as one of its qualities, yes the game needs challenge but not to the point of frustration.

I soloed some times the mobs for newer members but with the change even if some of the people will bring a lvl75 and kill them even faster (not that much of a change from now really) there will be those that can gather lvl 50 parties to kill the monsters and will be much more epic than waiting for a lvl75 shouting in Jeuno.

Same with the papirus, Why waste days trying to get one just because SE gave it an horrible droprate?

I think this was a needed change to make the flow of the game better balanced (and more people will probably help knowing they dont have to waste 3 hours trying to get a paper for someone and not get a drop)

    I must say.

The idea of taking a party of level 50's through Rangemont, up into Beauc, through to Xarc, and then heading in to do battle for your own Genkai items sounds pretty fun.

Its called wasting too many hours in something that should not be a barrier to most people, not everyone have as much time as other to play the game and that means an artificial barrier to enjoy the game.

Of course the whole MMO is wasting time, but theres no need to waste time in stupid things like G1 droprate or G2 shouting, if you made it through g2 with lvl 50s more power to you thats really great but having lots of time to do things is not determintation is "having lots of time".

Please take the portal back to Allakhazam.

I got my L1 items with a group of people all my level, without the help of a 75. You want to play FFXI and get shit done? Make friends; there are always going to be people in your level range. Limit quests are made to be an achievement; getting them done should mean something, not just given to you. What are they going to do for the Maat fight, have him hooked up to life support and all you need to do is pull the plug to beat him?

And finally, if you're going to complain about Limit 1, you probably should just quit the game now.

Credos just said what was I bout to say. I mean god forbid you have to make friends and team up against some monster to advance in the game.

What do you think end game is about? If only the G1 mobs dropped the Sword of a thousand truths, then it would be worth the time.

    Re: August Update

I agree with G1 being poorly done, but G2? G2 was fucking easy, we did it without the help of JPs when we were up and coming newbies around NA release (well, a lot of us did, some didn't). You know what...? There were NO Lv75 NAs who weren't importers around to help us out. We banded together and got shit done.

Now, it's not hard to imagine that as a character is leveling that he'd make over 5 friends, and considering how many people now have 75 jobs one of their friends probably has one. I'd say lowbies have it easier than ever before now, they just don't fucking try. They want everything handed to them. Usually I enjoy helping people, but when they want me to setup their runs for them, and get people gathered for their shit... I don't come help.

The least they could do is the grunt work for their own runs. Most people don't even try that though.

When you did it, there were probably lots of lvl 50 players that you could ally with. It's actually fairly rare for me to meet someone who is a first time job doing limit breaks. I know a single person doing this. You used to be able to do shouts for G1/G2. Now, I never see them.

If anything this change is encouraging players of the same level and experience to go try these things. Yes, having someone with a 75 job will make it even easier, but if you had someone powerleveling you through genkais in the first place, was there actually any challenge involved?

Sols, I imagine we did ours around the same time (on the same server). I began Dec 03, so I was prob doing it March-April 04? I cant remember..

I did consider the point you made when I was typing my post. But in a way, its easier now. People are able take a party up to Eldieme and not compete with other lv 50's for Lichs, whereas that was the case when I was trying to get mine.

...When I was doing my limit quests I outright REFUSED to accept lvl 75 help. Felt like cheating. Ended up organizing my own via shout, had it tanked with a lvl 53 pld and we killed it with a bunch of lower 50 melee. Same for my shadow lord quests etc. Was a lot of fun.

FFXI is designed to appeal to people who enjoy working towards some sort of goal. Getting there can often be frustrating, but when you eventually get there the feeling of accomplishment makes it all worth it. Don't mean to make this sound like an insult, but if you really think this way you should probably just quit and go to WoW.

One thing that is true though, is that it is a lot harder now to find people with only one job in the early 50s now. But, with enough determination, I'm sure it is still possible.
