I'm all for Sea Manaburn again; I think it was great and don't understand why it was nerfed.

EXP should not be the focal point of the game. It should be a means to an end, so that you can spend more time questing, camping HNM and doing the things that are actually interesting*.

*Yes I know that some people consider exping interesting. But after killing well over a few thousand Toucan Sams and Mamool, shit gets old.
I agree that EXPing/meriting should not be the focal point, however it is THE foundation of everything FFXI. Special attention should and does come about when the developers mention messing around with it. That being said, will a potential nerf be the end of FFXI? Probably not, because people will find another method/way around it. However, I maintain that we should not have to find another method because theyre not broken.

I completely agree that it is the foundation. My biggest issue is that just because a method that the playerbase has discovered that increases our exp per hour shouldn't be dubbed as overpowered and therefore requiring a nerf.

Aside from AF2 pants, whats to hate about it? BST's AF2 is the only job I can think of that can use AF2 pretty much full time with 5/6 pieces being badass.
Why would you ever ever use AF2 full time?

Head: Great for charming, chr and charm+
Body: Marginally useful for reward erase/na and some limited charm.
Hands: Great... for call beast and that's it.
    Legs: Horrible
Feet: reward timer only (and also horrible)

There are better chr pieces, there are better charm+ pieces, there are pieces which have better chr and charm in one.

But after you charm, reward or call beast, why would you ever leave them on? Head piece for charming, hands for call beast and reward is so very specific that I would never carry it unless it was for a specific case.

Instead of nerfing tp burns I could just see them make Elemental Weapon skills lower magic Resistance drastically on TW-IT mobs, IE 2k+ nukes. It wouldn't be game breaking, because ws won't be as strong. and still need mp, but could possibly make way for some other types of burns

(I really hope they don't do this)

Oh, wait, I forgot one of the Enhances Reward pieces on Relic is supposed to give -na effects...which COMPLETELY invalidates my point, I'm sorry.
The Enhance Reward on relic feet is twice as good as the one on AF feet, and the AF and relic body remove different status ailments. Plus you can mix and match pieces; no one would use relic pants over AF, but I don't see why you'd use AF head over relic (for charming, not tame) either.

BST AF2 is still pretty much junk besides the hands and head, and even then it's situational. The only time the other gear is useful is for long NM fights or BC's where you will actually use pet food. But it's been so long that I've done evasive action I would pretty much call them worthless for just about any other event.

Because it looks great and we all know that BSTs don't get to leave town before switching to another job.

True, except when they're just bored and soloing things.

Even then, Turban/Ohat, Hauberk, Ogre/Bison hands, AF/+1 Legs/Haidate if they have em, Bison/Khimaira feet for run around general purpose gear.

They hit stuff pretty regularly it turns out, not that you could tell from the AF/Relic.

    Re: August Update

I'd like a Neck, Back, or Ammo piece as a reward for finishing the ToAU Missions. Haste+% and/or maybe hMP+ (by a decent amount) would be nice to have more options with. Plenty of head gear choices already.

Anyone else looking forward to more Serpent General quests?

    Re: August Update

The following is a sample of what awaits adventurers in the next version update:

    Treasures of Aht Urghan Missions
The final battle is about to begin, and the fate of the Empire is in your hands! Join forces with companions new and old to unlock the mysteries hidden in this final chapter of the epic Aht Urhgan missions!

For a recap of previous missions, click here.
It is recommended that players who have not yet completed "Playing the Part" avoid viewing the aforementioned link.

    Besieged
To oppose the overwhelming power of the level 8 beastmen forces, Al Zahbi's five Serpent Generals have spent the previous months honing their skills. In addition, the Empire will be putting into effect a decree which allows additional distribution of temporary items after a certain number of invaders have been defeated. Finally, if the beastmen forces are not defeated by the Empire, or capture the Astral Candesence, they will automatically retreat one Earth hour after their arrival in Al Zahbi.

    Einherjar
In an effort to lower the difficulty level of Einherjar, the HP of all monsters in the Hazhalm Testing Grounds will be reduced in the upcoming version update.
We will make further adjustments should this challenging area continue to prove excessively difficult.

    Assault Mission "Nyzul Isle Investigation"
Currently, the data for the highest floor you have investigated in Nyzul Isle will be deleted after defeating the monsters on Floor 100. Unlike with other floors, this removes the possibility of retrying the floor in an attempt to obtain the treasure you seek.
As of the next version update, the data will still be deleted after clearing Floor 100, but in exchange for the loss of data, the chance for obtaining the armor pieces will be increased to 100%.
While clearing to Floor 100 is no easy task, we are sure there are heroes out there that are up to the challenge!

The Chocobo Hot and Cold Game
    Chocobo Abilities
Resting your chocobo for thirty six hours (Earth time) after playing the Chocobo Hot and Cold game will allow you to dig twice more, as well as increase your chances to "hit the jackpot" the next time you play the game.
Furthermore, chocobos of players who succeed at finding treasure in any area three times in a row will temporarily gain the "Treasure Finder" ability. Chocobos that already have "Treasure Finder" will have the effect of the ability temporarily doubled.

    Chocobucks
A new reward will soon be available in the form of vouchers that can be exchanged for chocobucks, with the chocobuck reward varying with the difficulty of the area.
The vouchers will always be found inside the treasure chests in addition to the standard rewards.

    Limit Break Quests
With the current level of advancement of the majority of the player base, it has become increasingly difficult to find fellow adventurers who have yet to complete the limit break quests. In an effort to alleviate the woes of newer players, the limit break quests from level 50 to level 60 will have their difficulty reduced in the following manner:

    Level 50 "In Defiant Challenge"
Drop rates for the quest items will be improved.

Level 55 "Atop the Highest Mountains"
The relative strength of the quest monsters will be reduced so that a party of six level 51 characters will be able to defeat them.
More stuff made easy for the Allakhazam population.

    Re: August Update

The G1 and 2 stuff seem kind of odd to me.. most people do get help from lv75 friends to clear it.. I guess they want to make it so that it can be done in a party, because those events were originally tailored for people to do in alliances...

The rest of the changes are pretty sensible and I think would make the game less of a 'hassle'. Challenge should still be there, but it shouldn't go to the point where its no longer fun.

Looks like they put the Generals through the ol' DBZ training plan: Over 9000 or you deposit back.

When Einherjar was first described, before it came out, I was given the impression that it was going to be a multi-mob zerg-fest where you burn through trash mobs in a mannter of seconds. Maybe they'll finally make it into that with this HP cut?

    Re: August Update

I think the Genkai/Limit breaks should be made harder especially the last two. At least included some pop quiz or some shit to make sure players know how to play their damn jobs properly before they're allowed to get 75 and/or merit abilities.

Too easy to hop onto a ToAU burn and breeze from 55-75 without using your head or learning your job/s properly.

At least back when we didn't have ToAU some of the lesser/stupider/lazier players were weeded out because they were too shite to keep up with SCs, MBs and whatnot.

ToAU makes it too easy to get to 75 with minimal effort or research into how to play your job proplerly, let alone on how to maximise its usefulness. All these ToAU onry Bred players make me emo.

    Re: August Update

Pretty hard to complain. Obviously everyone is looking forward to the final AU missions, especially since most people are as far as you can get with them, quite the opposite of when they finished CoP.

1 Hour Besieged is pretty nice given how long they have been known to last lately.

Easier Einher-hard is a godsend, though I highly doubt its going to make it more attractive than Salvage or...just about anything. Still, lets hope they continue tweaking it.

Einherjar update is good, the rest I don't care about at all.

I am more amazed that they're actually getting into specifics and saying wild and randy terms like "100%" and "level 51 party of 6" rather than just "adjusted" all over the damned place.
