I know breaksynthing is fairly standard on shrimp lanterns by keeping an intentionally low smithing sub and breaking the synth, with the aim to maintain as many of the materials as possible. i'm trying something vaguely similar on seer's crowns, designing to gain both bonecraft and leathercraft skill in tandem. i'm 6 from the cap on both leather and bone, thus i THINK that should be in range to skill off failures for either craft. today, i tried 12 synths (full moon, some on windsday, some on iceday, wind weather if anyone cares, i doubt they do.) and succeeded at 3 of them. i only gained skill on the 3 i actually made. did i just have a run of bad luck not skilling on any breaks? is the skillup rate on breaks just really low? is the break skillup difference different when dealing with a multi-craft synth? am i doing something wrong or just completely clueless? i thought i had all my research down and my plan was solid, but apparently not all my ducks were in a row. if anyone has any input on why i'm having such difficulty, i'd appreciate it.
