Graphics problem with menu buttons on FFXI.

(Yes, I posted this in the FFXIClopedia forums too. Apparent response: "Wut?")

A friend's gotten themselves a brand-new Alienware computer, Geforce 8800 GTX card.

Almost everything works peachy keen except for the Menu buttons in FFXI- which although POL is perfect, the buttons inside the game itself (not the FFXI front page or anywhere else) are so bright as to wash out the text entirely.

Anyone else heard of this problem?

If he's on Vista, he's pretty much fucked.

If he's on XP, I've heard that either playing without windower or using the JP windower fixes the problem.

What are his other specs on the PC?

My PC has an 8800gtx GPU and when i first installed FFXI I had a huge problem with the graphics, it basically looked worse than the PS2 graphics. If he hasn't already go to the start menu > playonline > ffxiconfiguration and change the settings to higher settings and it should fix the problem. did for me anyway. The controls inside the game do nothing for the visual effects of the game.

I'm on my PC at work right now, so i can't see exactly the options i changed in ffxiconfig to fix the graphics. In about 8 hours i'd be happy to if you haven't solved the problem by then.

Its a common problem with 8800 cards with ffxi and it has already be resolved. Go to guru3d and download newer drivers.

If that doesn't work, you can use a custom UI for the menus as I did before they fixed it with drivers.

Found it- somehow, it'd been reverted to a much older (96.xx) driver while it'd been tweaked, newer driver fixed the problem. (Sorry, classic duh check, but doing this long-distance makes it hard to double-check things.). Thanks, everyone.
