Email revenge?

So I'm a graphic designer by trade. I've been working at a company in Atlanta for about 3 years now ever since I got out of college. I have my own portfolio website, but haven't needed it very much with a steady job. I update every so often with stuff i've done while I've been here, but not really compulsively.

Today I get an email from a friend of mine from back in college. It turns out another person I knew back in school is using the same layout I am. This kind of pisses me off, since its my design, but thats sort of the way the internet is, right? So I check out his website... and its not just my design. Its my work. Everything I've done since college has been listed as "his" own work. Even the things I've done at my current company! This is outrageous, especially since some of these are multi-million dollar jobs for big clients that he has no knowledge of whatsoever. He even copied my resume!

Since then my circle of friends from school has pretty much exploded in anger. A ton of them want to call him, get lawyers on him, burn him with fire, take your pick. About 10 minutes ago he pulled his site off-line, but I still have the source code for the main page, as well as his cell phone # and email address. I'm not usually a vindictive person, but this little snot needs to get whats coming to him.

Anyone have any suggestions for a good site where I can toss his email out to a bunch of spambots or something?

He won't get far when it comes time to check his references. Say he does apply for a job somewhere, they are impressed by "his" portfolio, and then call the former employer (which is really your former employer). They'll find out he never worked there.

Same thing happened to me, but it was just a few logos... I cared, but imitation is the highest form of flattery, and all her other work sucked anyways.

I'm assuming this guy makes/has no money, so suing him won't do you any good. You could get an injunction against him working in the field though, that'd fuck up his life for a good while.

I'm also a graphic designer aside from my part time job. If that happened to me I'd have a hayday with it haha. Did you try talking to him yet? How long has he been passing your work off as his own?

As I said before, a guy who is stealing someone's work is probably dead broke and making no money. Suing him won't do much at all as you can't take money that doesn't exist. I mean, yes, you can probably attach onto his future earnings, but most likely the guy is a deadbeat and makes nothing (will always make nothing) anyways. I'd say it's better to just get an injunction. Should also probably double check that all your material is properly copyrighted and such.

People are suggesting 4chan, but really that would be the last place I'd go. If you post your story there, they will just complain they are too cool to be your personal army. Then they will ravage your portfolio themselves and disperse across the Internet various photoshops of all your stuff with Seaking pasted on it.

Yeah, Ive never been on that site, and honestly I'm a little afraid of it... I'm pretty sure thats what would happen though, which is why I didn't post my link >.>

The strange thing is, its so easy to get your email thrown out to spambots, but when I want to toss someone else's email into the meat grinder, I cant find anything!

If he's not that stupid, then post on 4chan under the identity of the other guy, asking them to raid you. They'll say they're not your (his) personal army and raid his portfolio instead, just like you wanted.

I wouldn't go to >ebaums!<, mainly because you would just get your site shut down while they raid him (if at all). *Certian server testing site here* and seeing as you have a portfolio, perfect target (bunch of images).

Thats the thing... Originally I thought he may just be using the layout, and he hadn't changed the links or anything yet. But he re-hosted all my work on his own server! So its not like he was just borrowing it for a little while while he got things set up. He downloaded everything i had, then re-hosted it, and took the time to edit my name out of everything.

I got a rather devious PM about this. Turns out there's a web app that lets you send text messages from online instead of your cell phone. All you have to do is provide your number for billing purposes. I found a bunch of those "text 'joke' to 45446" crap you see on Adult's Swim every night, and spammed the thing with that and his cell number. Those messages are like $6 per text!

Another friend of mine posted links to his portfolio on a forum called "gang grey." I've never heard of it, but they're apparently ripping his myspace/blog/portfolio apart right now. A bunch of them got his number and have been calling at like 3 in the morning asking about graphic design rates and the projects hes worked on.

Another friend of mine posted links to his portfolio on a forum called "gang grey." I've never heard of it, but they're apparently ripping his myspace/blog/portfolio apart right now. A bunch of them got his number and have been calling at like 3 in the morning asking about graphic design rates and the projects hes worked on.

Sounds like a fairly legitimate raid. Youtube links of phone convos or it didn't happen? YTLOPCOIDH? Ugh.
