FFVII question!

I have 7, unwrapped it and immediately the graphics turned me off after having played ff12 and games like that.

do they get better? or is it even worth playing after playing more recent ones, everyone always says its the best ever zomg!
and i really wanna experience but it hurts my eyes

so i geuss my question is:

get over the graphics because it is a great game
or
dont bother



and for that matter i also have 8 and 9, are they worth it?

Personally, I thought 7 was a good game, not the OMG wowser that a lot of people make it out to be, but a good game. The graphics are old. I mean, they're PS1. Either get over it or give up. Your choice on that.

Lots of people are split on 8. Either awesome, or utter garbage. Completely different battle system that some liked and some didn't. Again, preference. Slightly better graphics than 7, but still PS1.

I personally liked 9 the best out of those 3. More along the lines of some of the older games with AP and the battle system, although some things can be frustrating. You'll never get the best sword in the game the first time you play, but that's about it. Better graphics which still don't look too bad. And some of the better characters for a FF since 6. Again, though, my opinion.

Look at gameplay videos to give you a better idea.

7 was a good game i mean honestly if your going for graphics older games aren't really the answer don't ya think? i like 8 alot the enemies level was always based on squalls level . Which was really nice you could level all you wanted and didn't really have to worry about being too strong for a fight. 9 was good from what i remembered i might have to reply it.

FF7 is an okay game, not the god of all rpgs like fanboys claim it is, but it's good.

I personally liked FF8 and 9 better.

And seriously, GTFO with the stupid graphics shit, they're amazing games, who cares what they look like? I bet you only have a 360 and refuse to buy a Wii because the graphics turn your off... I mean seriously, just play them, the story makes up for the graphics (btw, those "crappy graphics" were the peak of gaming when those 3 games were released...you should've just played them 10 years ago. )

Enjoy them... trust me you will.

graphics alone dont make the game. Its worth playing through, and trust me once oyu get involved in the story you will completly ignore them.


FF7 and 9 are some of my favourites in the entire series, and I strongly recomend that you at lerast try them for a good few hours before passing them up.

I like the graphics in VII, nice and stylish. Which is something you don't see anymore from FF games (FFIX was the last one with some style).

You get past the graphics there is a very enjoyable game (spoilt by fanboys). Pretty compelling story and decent characters. The main thing FFVII had for me is nostalgia, and without that it really isn't as good as people say, but it's definitely worth playing.

Graphically, any game as far back as the SNES is still pleasant on my eyes.

FF7/8/9 still look good to me, and will have an inevitable remake at some point in the next 10 years. Square's already remade FF1-6 about 4 times now, dunno whats stopping them from remaking the games that'll actually make a truck load of money.

Well, I think remaking FF1-6 is a lot easier and cheaper then 7+. So even if it doesn't sell great they still made some money.

And the PS1 FF games had beautiful graphics, I can still sit and watch all the battle spells/animations today and go "wow".

The "ultimate sword" in 9 doesn't really count IMO, because it's not for the main character. You can get ultima weapon the first time easialy enough, and Steiner can already do 9999 with just shock (even to ozma). Ragnarok 2 is there for completeness and bragging rights.

FFVII was a good game (I hate the fanboys who worship it, and the non-conformists who bash it solely because it's worshipped equally), but I also did not like the graphics. Honestly, I think they should have waited until the technology was in the FF8 era to bother. The blocky characters and hands just looked goofy and detracted from the serious atmosphere the game was supposed to have, I would have preferred that they stayed in the old 2D style for a while longer.

If they'd used the combat models for the whole game it would have looked awesome. There was probably some max screen poly count or something, which is why the non-battle models have like 1/3 the polys.
